This is the next single from Julie, scheduled to go for adds on January 24th. While this is a good song, I think Mercury is missing the boat on this one by not releasing an uptempo song. I think "Pot of Gold" or "No Way Out" would be good choices. Guess we'll just have to see how this does on radio. My prediction: barely break the top 40. sg1.allmusic.com/cg/smp.dll?r=20.asx&link=9thprhrfbuylthdlndp4h9x

I agree that this won't be a single. Both this and "The Chance" are good songs to listen to when you're reading, but just are too plain. "Break Down Here" stood out because it has an amazing chorus.
"Pot of Gold" could have worked as a single, as would have "You Ain't Down Home"

It should have been "You Ain't Down Home".

I totally agree that "You Ain't Down Home" would be a far better choice for a single, and if they absolutely HAD to choose a slow song, why not "Rain On A Tin Roof"? A BEAUTIFUL song. Gives me the chills. Really. Ann-Marita www.annmarita.com

As you can tell by my chosen screenname i'm a bit of a fan of this song. In my opinion, the best song to come out of Nashville in a long time....
it SHOULD be a hit...but then again, "Break Down Here" and "The Chance" should've been bigger hits as well. Hope radio pulls their heads out of their butts in time to realize they have a rare gem on their hands!

I love it too, but I can't see this doing a whole lot if "The Chance" didn't.

I think this is a great choice for a single and I look for it to do quite well.
This is one of those songs (like SHeDAISY's Come Home Soon) where the video helps make the song.
I think now that more people are getting familiar with her that this will be her highest charting single to date.

I think this will be better than "The Chance," and I REALLY like this song. I hope it does good on radio.

JULIE ROBERTS Wake Up Older Producer(s): Brent Rowan Writer(s): L. Carver Publisher(s): Sony/ATV Tunes; Big Alpha Writers Group (ASCAP) Genre: COUNTRY Label/Catalog Number: Mercury MRNR-02601-2IN02 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: March 05, 2005
Julie Roberts is a newcomer whose career trajectory is taking an interesting path. She is a media darling whose debut album has been certified gold, even though she has yet to score a big hit on country radio. Her first single, "Break Down Here," went top 20, while its follow-up, "The Chance," didn't fare as well. This stunning ballad could be the turning point where country radio begins catching up with Roberts' sales success. Penned by Lisa Carver, "Wake Up Older" is one great breakup song, complete with raw, despairing lyrics. Consider these: "I cruised by your house, and all the lights were out/And you were gone/So, I found me a stranger/Well there's comfort in danger/But I thought about you the whole time we were getting it on." This song drips with post-romance agony and world-weary resignation. Roberts delivers each line like it's a personal manifesto. She so inhabits the lyric, one envisions an aging, Jim Beam-swigging barfly, not the blond ingénue/rising artist that is Roberts. But that's the mark of a great balladeer—to wrap oneself so completely in the words that they become a second skin.—DEP

This song deserves to be a gigantic hit but only time will tell. But if you ask me country radio's ignorance will overlook one of the most talented people ever. Julie's timing with country radio is what is holding her back from becoming the country superstar she should become but they are stuck in this..I drink beer...Im a redneck...stage. I hope that even if this single fails (which im praying it doesn't) they still release "rain on a tin roof" because that is greatest song ever and I think Julie's best shot at having a major hit.

I'm surprised they put out another draggy song after "The Chance" bombed. There are so many catchy tunes on the disc (in my humble opinion) besides "Wake Up Older" >:(

I think that Julie Roberts need to be marketed to AC because she reminds me of a jazzy soul artist rather than what is hot right now in country. Her record label and VH1 who owns CMT needs to do a campaign and people will see how talented Julie Roberts is. Lol just an idea that popped in my head.

I want to hear something uptempo from Julie. I like her voice, but one can take only so many ballads in a row. I want to hear something that shows off the chops.
