Woah.
Honestly…smart move. Streaming is the way to go. This could bode well for them. Might be a rocky start, but cable ratings have been on such a sharp decline for all shows over the last several years.

It looks like past ACM awards shows are available too. When I searched about it it said watch the 54th ACM’s on Amazon now. I’m just wondering how far back they have? I’m gonna have to get Prime again I guess!

I’m gonna have to get Prime again I guess! It appears to be just the last two years. Unless I’m searching incorrectly. Very bold move, but I honestly think we will see more of this as time goes on.

y'all have way more generous reads on this then I do. I read it as, none of the other networks were willing to bid on it for any sort of real price

I read it as, none of the other networks were willing to bid on it for any sort of real price This was also my first thought - but Amazon has paid generously for NFL and MLB streaming rights, so the ACM may have gotten a fair shake. Remember, too, that Amazon will control all the creative rights now, too, so any on-demand watching, physical releases, digital releases, all will generate something for them.

I recall them initially splitting with CBS a few months ago after the network’s refusal to front, like, $22 million for funding the show after it saw one ratings decline after another. I just think this might end up working well for them, given the way media is more commonly consumed by the masses nowadays.

This move will get people talking for sure, but without any kind of TV presence this guarantees less people will watch the show. Despite what live TV ratings have become in the modern era, that is still where live events like this find the bulk of their audience.

With Garth and now FGL pulling the plug on their tours again, I'm thinking this is probably the start of another wave of cancellations of the big tours? FGL is citing the rising covid numbers, but I'm being cynical here and wondering if Live Nation and AEG's "be vaccinated or test negative policy" that's going into effect in October, which most of this tour runs after, is a reason. Another cynical part of me also wonders if blaming covid is an easy out here. You can still search for tickets at most venues and many of them are pretty light sellers, which surprised me some but the glut of tours happening now and this fall, it's a given that there's going to be a lot of losers in this game. If I'm wrong about either of these reasons, then good for them for doing this for the right reason.

Touring is overwhelmed right now because everyone is trying to go back out on the road, which is GREAT. But, ticket buyer fatigue is real. After everything picking up as quickly as it did in the late spring, when masking mandates loosened & vaccination rates continued to soar, I think a lot of the general public rushed to get back to as close to “normal” as possible, including seeing live music again. Makes sense, but now the industry is being confronted with slower sellers. Add that in with new restrictions by the two big promoter companies, and that throttles certain audiences even more (even though it shouldn’t and everyone that *can* needs to just go get fucking vaccinated). So it doesn’t surprise me to see cancellations.
I don’t foresee the industry shutting down again, esp. with the new vaxx-only requirements going into full force in a matter of weeks.

Cancellations are what you get at the intersection of "I wont get no vaccine, wearing a mask is against my personal freedom" fans...and rising covid cases. And at the end of the day, these "fans" and there refusal to be sane, decent human beings, mostly just hurts all of the little people in the touring industry.

Reba drops one HELL of a new version of “Can’t Even Get The Blues,” from the Revived disc!
My jaw DROPPED just now when I heard this! How she continues to defy all logic with her voice is beyond me. She’s still got it!

Luke Combs at #1 for TEN WEEKS…he was likely being hyperbolic, but has that ever happened? Unless it was my favorite song of all time, I can’t say that I would not absolutely hate that long of a reign (although I do want longer reigns at the top to come back—but just for more songs not by Luke Combs at this point lmao)

He’s 100% correct but let’s see results first. If the average country music listeners opinion mattered to radio, Ashley McBryde, Childers, Cody Jinks would each be on about their 5th number one smash by now. But it’s 2021 and they’re “Americana” 😂 However, that’s not the case at all, since pretty boys like Dylan Scott and Russell Dickerson continue to get their forgettable singles babied up the chart for 45 weeks. Watching the charts used to be fun. When I heard of a 50 week chart run, I thought “Lee Brice again?”. Not, “oh, a normal Tuesday”
