That figure for Roar is incorrect. Roar needs to be changed to:

^How could that be, when numerous radio hits were not eligible to chart? "Blurred Lines" refuses to go down in a swift manner.

And now it's time for our weekly look back at the Billboard Top 10 singles for exactly 55, 50, 45, and 40 years ago this week.
New Hot 100 #1 "Volare" had its run at the top temporarily interrupted by a new song, "Little Star" by the Elegants, who hold the dubious distinction of being the first of only several "one-hit wonders" to ever get to #1 on the Hot 100 chart; since after scoring big with "Little Star," the Elegants never managed to chart another song on the Hot 100 ever again.
August 25, 1958 (for week ending August 31)
TW LW WK 01 02 04 Little Star - The Elegants (1 week at #1) 3rd song to hit #1 on the Hot 100 02 01 04 Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare) - Domenico Modugno 03 17 04 Bird Dog - The Everly Brothers 04 05 04 Just A Dream - Jimmy Clanton And His Rockets 05 03 04 My True Love - Jack Scott 06 04 04 Poor Little Fool - Ricky Nelson 07 05 04 Patricia - Perez Prado & His Orchestra 08 09 04 Fever - Peggy Lee 09 16 04 Born Too Late - Poni-Tails 10 07 04 When - Kalin Twins
August 31, 1963
TW LW WK 01 04 05 My Boyfriend's Back - The Angels (1 week at #1) 02 02 05 Hello Mudduh, Hello Fadduh (A Letter From Camp) 03 01 11 Fingertips Part 2 - Little Stevie Wonder 04 03 09 Candy Girl - Four Seasons 05 06 10 Blowin' In The Wind - Peter, Paul & Mary 06 11 06 If I Had A Hammer - Trini Lopez 07 05 09 Judy's Turn To Cry - Lesley Gore 08 12 11 Mockingbird - Inez Foxx (with Charlie Foxx) 09 08 09 More - Kai Winding 10 10 12 Denise - Randy & The Rainbows
The chart of August 31, 1968 is notable but not because of anything to do with the #1 song, which continued to be The Rascals "People Got To Be Free." No, it is notable because of the song at #7, "Harper Valley P.T.A." which set a Hot 100 record at the time by leaping 74 places on the chart from #81 all the way to #7 in just one week. In doing so, it became the biggest leap into the Top 10 at the time.
August 31, 1968
TW LW WK 01 01 07 People Got To Be Free - The Rascals (3 weeks at #1) 02 02 08 Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf 03 04 06 Light My Fire - Jose Feliciano 04 03 09 Hello, I Love You - The Doors 05 06 23 Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream 06 11 13 You Keep Me Hangin' On - Vanilla Fudge 07 81 02 Harper Valley P.T.A. - Jeannie C. Riley 08 15 06 You're All I Need To Get By - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell 09 09 07 I Can't Stop Dancing - Archie Bell & The Drells 10 10 10 Stay In My Corner - The Dells
September 1, 1973
TW LW WK 01 01 11 Brother Louie - Stories (2 weeks at #1) 02 04 08 Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye 03 06 11 Delta Dawn - Helen Reddy 04 03 14 Touch Me In The Morning - Diana Ross 05 02 09 Live And Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings 06 08 08 Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose - Dawn featuring Tony Orlando 07 05 11 The Morning After - Maureen McGovern 08 07 11 Get Down - Gilbert O'Sullivan 09 16 05 Loves Me Like A Rock - Paul Simon 10 11 11 Feelin' Stronger Every Day - Chicago

Radioactive is at 50 weeks and is currently at #3, obviously this will break the 52 week mark, can we expect it to come close or even break the "I'm Yours" record? Needs to fall at least 47 spots in 22 weeks to miss out on it. I'm sure Cruise will break 60 weeks after that though I'm not too sure.

Likely not considering it is iTunes only and they are reporting from apple. So add in maybe another 20-30k from Amazon?

^Was reported at 16% or so last September. Nonetheless, the market share is a general one; the percentage of sales from amazon.com could vary from title to title.
Since when does iTunes release such precise figures, outside of SoundScan? Not that the total would be far off from that, anyhow.

From the article: "Perry’s “Roar” is her best-selling single on iTunes with more 544,000 copies sold domestically alone, according to Apple."
They say that as a total figure and don't specify when they got that figure... it may include part of the second week's sales too? Also it's obviously not her best-selling single... maybe fastest-selling?
Eh we'll know by morning if not sooner for sure.

Oh, yeah. iTunes is not the end-all. iTunes is 63% so if her margins hold up elsewhere 544/.66 or even .7 and you have a better idea which points to something more like 700k.

"Roar" didn't even beat BL on Amazon, so the sales were certainly more concentrated on iTunes.

"Roar" didn't even beat BL on Amazon, so the sales were certainly more concentrated on iTunes. That's interesting. So maybe a 625k figure is more likely. I know they want to get as much mileage out of Katy Perry's success as possible so billboard is going to try to milk it. ...which is a good thing IMO.
