Good to see this fly to the top spot. The best song on the album by far, and that is saying alot. It is a solid record.

This is an excellent song from an excellent album. This is definetly the album of the year. Now has anyone heard of the new single???? I am really hoping for Better Life or She's Gotta Be. The latter will probably never see the light of day but it is my favorite track on the album. Nobody Drinks Alone will be released at sometime so I wonder how deep he will go?

Only "Country Comfort" gets the skip button from me. I would love for "Tonight I'm Gonna Cry" to be released at some point. As for the next single, I would guess "Nobody Drinks Alone" or "God's Been Good To Me". He could easily go six or seven deep.

Its been mentioned how the billboard recurrent rule keeps songs on the chart a long time (ex:"thats what i love about sunday" 35+ wks, "baby girl" 40+wks)...but i also think the r&r mediabase chart pulls songs too early..."making memories of us", even though it is still top 5 in spins & audience, is already recurrent !!!...i think big songs get pulled way too early after their peak and arent given a chart life even though they still rank high in spins & audience...imo this recurrent rule is worse than billboards because this song with a 40+ million audience still deserves to be charting.

R&R doesn't count days without a bullet as long as the song is still #1. They do this to avoid having a #1 song go recurrent, which would be ridiculous. They could relax that rule a bit to avoid situations like what happened to Keith this week. If they held off on starting to count days without a bullet until the song falls to #5, it might result in a more fair solution. There should be a happy medium between Billboard's and R&R's rules.. I'm pretty sure I've seen Billboard songs go recurrent after a couple of days without a bullet, simply because they happened to peak right at the #15 cutoff point and met the age requirement. That's hardly fair, either. I think a song should be falling for a certain minimum number of days before it goes, like on R&R. WHEN you start counting days without a bullet is what needs tweaking.

The song is ok, like Rodney's version better. Can't get into Keith at all, don't fine anything country in his sound, or music. Also I prefer Brad's style of guitar playing much more, he is awesome without showing off like Keith.

Not sure what you mean by your post, but this was my opinion of Keith Urban's song. I prefer Rodney Crowell's version of his song. Have you even heard his version? I am a huge fan of Rodney and very happy that he gets credit for writing a #1 song.
I jsut don't like his style of guitar playing it reminds me of the rockers I used to listen to in the 60's and 70's. I much perfer Brad's style a guy that doesn't get the credit he deserves IMO. Brad is just as good as Keith in his guitar playing but his style is just not as showy, that is what I meant. So chill.
Did you ever see Chet Atkins, he could put them both to shame.

Yay Keith - congrats on your new #1 - this is an awesome song.
I much prefer Keith's version - even though Rodney wrote it - I think Keith's version of this song is soooooooooo much better - JMO!

Here's another vote for teh FAR superior Rodney Crowell version. Not only is he vocally superior, but you have to give him major credit for writing such a gem.
-Brand new Rodney Crowell fan

Not only is he vocally superior, but you have to give him major credit for writing such a gem. -Brand new Rodney Crowell fan A few suggestions from an old Rodney Crowell fan: you might want to pick up The Houston Kid, a 2001 release that has no radio songs on it (well, I Walk the Line (Revisited) did get to #61) but does display his songwriting talent -- it's one of the best CD's I own. For a collection of his big radio hits (including some recorded by other artists), you can't go wrong with Small Worlds: the Crowell Collection, which has 21 tracks covering 1978 through 1995. And the original of MMOU is on the Notorious Cherry Bombs CD, which is terrific all the way through. I see why people might like the Urban version better, but for me it's not close either. Some day maybe Urban will be able to interpret a song the way Crowell can -- but he's not there yet.

I love "The Houston Kid". Telephone Road is my favorite song because he's from Houston and it was great hearing Rodney sing about my favorite city in the world.
I actually went out and bought Greatest Hits, Jewel Of the South, Diamonds and Dirt, Fate's Right Hand, and The Houston Kid all on the same day. My favorite song is Earthbound along with What Kind of Love. Honestly the only people I like better than Rodney are Radney Foster and Bruce Robison. I highly recommend Radney's "See What You Want to See" and "Another Way to Go" and Bruce's "Long Way From Anywhere," "Country Sunshine," and "Wrapped" if you like great voices and amazing songwriting abilities.

I apologize to Urbanites for hijacking this thread, but I will make one more Rodney Crowell post anyway. At least one. (a) I love Telephone Road, and four or five others are very strong, but my favorite is Rock of My Soul. He never backs down from a difficult subject, and that one he takes head-on. (b) Earthbound's my favorite from Fate too, and I also like Come On Funny Feelin' a lot. I've never bought a Radney Foster CD but I might do it -- I've admired his songwriting for years.
If you want a new candidate for your list of favorites, pick up a copy of Darrell Scott's Aloha From Nashville. He's the only songwriter I'd rank above Crowell these days (not counting the old-timers). He also plays about a dozen instruments and, without a great voice, does a very good job of singing too. His other albums are good but not as good as that one.

Just an observation here...i noticed that this song has the black dot next to it on the billboard singles chart signifying an RIAA certification for net shipment of 100,000 paid downloads (Gold)...its been awhile since i've seen this on a country song...guess this shows his appeal beyond just the country crowd.
