Katy will obviously be #1 but that would've been huge disappointment if Roar didn't do it because almost all her singles from TD were number ones.
I'm afraid Let Her Go might have been around for too long to be a #1, but top 5 and great longevity could make up for it a bit.

It's huge. and it's one of the songs that has a very strong lyric. I adore it...

Thanks for posting. Did "Bubble Butt" drop right off from No. 56?

Wow "Stay" really has better longevity than "When I Was Your Man". It went recurrent this week.

Thanks for posting. Did "Bubble Butt" drop right off from No. 56? Yes, but that happened last week. Quite strange though.

^Ahh- so it did. Thanks. :) I'm keeping track of post-top 100 list activity- that is odd, given that it had been on the chart for nine weeks. Not like it was a one-week wonder and then tumbled off.

I wish Madonna was on Capitol quite frankly. Collecting #1 hits is nothing new for Capitol. Who do you think the Beatles' distributor was in the US in the 60's? At least until the Beatles started their own Apple label in 1968? The same record label that Katy Perry is currently on.

SPRΞΞ- you wish Madonna were on Capitol? I don't think she'd be seeing anywhere near the kind of single success that Ms. Perry is enjoying.

Warner fucked up so many of her releases. Of course I'd rather her be on Capitol.

Not to derail the convo, but there are certainly some songs that had #1 potential for Madonna that didn't make it due to some poor timing issues:
4 Minutes (#3) -- slightly different timing on the single release could've made the difference, as this was a competitive time period with some narrow margins for the top Beautiful Stranger (#19) -- if they had released a single, I feel like this had a great shot at #1 Frozen (#2) -- releasing the 2-track single the same week as the album was an odd choice -- if they had done it just a week sooner it might have snagged a week at #1 before K-Ci and Jojo Don't Cry For Me Argentina (#8) -- releasing a maxi-single only, and waiting until after airplay had already peaked, was a big mistake and this could've hit #1 Into the Groove (did not chart) -- feels like this would've been a surefire #1 if it had a proper Billboard-friendly single release (YES I know there was a single out there, but just not in the format BB felt was eligible)
And I'd also say that had something other than the DREADFUL "Give Me All Your Luvin'" been chosen as the lead single from MDNA (such as "I'm Addicted" or maybe even "Girl Gone Wild"), there might have been an outside shot of a #1 there with all the Superbowl promo (although I doubt it given the confluence of the Grammys, Katy's new song, and Whitney's death at the same time). But it was a miracle that a song as frankly terrible as GMAYL managed to hit the top ten at all, so in that case I give the label a lot of respect for getting a high peak for such a weak single.
Some of her other #2s and #3s just had luck of the draw I think where the label couldn't have really done much to change the outcome, but the above cases I think were ones where label decisions potentially cost her #1s.

Ahh, I thought you just meant NOW, SPRΞΞ. :)
br- those were instances that M could have had other potential No. 1s. Maverick opted not to issue CD singles for "Stranger" or "American Pie"- the former definitely would have had a better shot at the top than the latter, but she could have scored top 10 with "Pie." But, same goes for other hits around that era that didn't have CD singles released. The Super Bowl halftime show doesn't really have all that much larger an impact on sales than some music-oriented events with a lot less viewers, so I don't think she would have benefited too much more had there been a different lead single.
Back to this week's chart- a No .50 debut for one day of sales is pretty impressive for "Wrecking Ball."

"Katy will be #1" "New Gaga will debut at #1" "Passenger will reach #1" "Britney will be #1 when her new single comes out" And still there have been only seven number ones this year so far Not all your faves go to #1. I do genuinely think Passenger has a chance at #1 to be honest. Maybe not #1, but the song will be HUGE I reckon, it has been everywhere else in the world. Here it's currently #3 on the YTD chart (now, whether it's popular is a different matter, I've honestly heard the song like 2 or 3 times this year, but it's certainly selling bucketloads where I live, and pop and adult contemporary radio will be all over it like a Pink song). However, I don't think Avicii is going to get #1 like everybody seems to think... Although it does have amazing crossover-ability thanks to its unique verses, so I might be wrong, but I highly doubt it (and yes, I'm aware of how much it's sold everywhere else). Avicii's song will obviously be a big hit though (it already is). Britney I don't think will manage #1 either. But I definitely think Katy Perry and Passenger have a chance. I agree with this completely. While I think Avicii has a shot, it's far from guaranteed. The US chart is NOT designed for fast turnover so of course many major hits will get closed out (ask Daft Punk). Autumn is always a particularly competitive time and Katy seems to be setting up for an extended stay. Passenger is going to be huge. #1 huge? Maybe. It's going Top 5 for sure though.

Yah I don't think the Superbowl alone would've propelled a better song to #1, more that there was an aura of promo around it beyond just viewers of the halftime show -- lots of press about Madonna performing there, there was a radio deal to promote the song, a video that even tied into the superbowl, etc. -- overall it was probably the biggest Madonna promo blitz we've seen since maybe the Music album debut.
