It'll be interesting to see how this explodes in January.
Its radio performance right now is extremely impressive considering that the freeze is oncoming, that there's another song as the second single, and that the first one is going to rank on pretty much all the year end countdowns.

I just heard this for the first time. It's not at all what I was expecting, in the very best way.

This better be smashing hard as a compensation for ruining Unconditionally's run and her streak!

Rises to #37 on the Hot 100 this week. It's Dark Horse's 11th week on the chart.

Estimated sales are +700K. Good lord. Has an album track ever sold so much in its first few months of release?

There are plenty of album tracks that have sold incredibly well, but I can't think of any that sold over 700k in its first 2.5 months of release. As far as album track sales go, I know "Set Fire to the Rain" was around 1 million by the time it was a single and "Rumour Has It" was around 600k or so. There's also some Eminem track that name escapes me that has sold over 1 million as well as Taylor Swift's "Forever & Always." I know there's more that I'm just not thinking of right now.

Adele was a game changer tho, in which Katy is not, nor anyone else at this moment. You really can't compare.
Eminem and Taylor, yea. They are the powerhouses. I'm not surprised.

I know GaGa's "Starstruck" was at least 500K by the end of the era and it was never a single

I'm just saying its unusual for a promo single to stick around this long, and not have a solid "game changer" mask behind it. This isn't the norm, and you know that.

I just heard this on the radio for the first time today and it's seriously the first Katy single in years that I was actually excited to hear being played. :) Lol, the exact same thing happened to me when I heard it for the first time on radio a few weeks ago. I got super excited like it was a lesser known artist I loved that I was finally hearing on the radio. Like how excited I was with Lana and SS this past summer.

How did Taylor or Eminem's songs have a "game changer" mask though? But if you say so..

It's the second. Unconditional is a holiday promo single. Holiday "buzz" single. Get it right. Thanks babe, but I am the decipher of promo singles on this board. It's not a "buzz" single. That would be something like Art Of Letting Go.

Set Fire to the Rain wasn't selling as well as Dark Horse as an album track... It was selling more like how Can't Hold Us and Same Love were doing as album tracks (which is still impressive).

It also wasn't a countdown single. That said, just because, like, four other album tracks have sold this well wet doesn't mean this song's success isn't amazing. It could have 20-plus weeks on the Hot 100 before it even sees an adds date.

LMAO at the idea that Katy is not a game-changer or a powerhouse after having one of the biggest eras in pop music history. Dark Horse is totally just selling ONLY because it connected so well with the public. Such an underdog, that Perry.

Once again, this is in the top 20 of iTunes. Looks like it could pass Unconditionally (and Do What U Want) soon.

LOL @ that Stephanie Tanner video that's going viral. Too bad it's only about nine seconds long, but it may explain the sales surge.
