He is the only one who deserves this award IMO. There are so many reasons that he should get this ...
his album sales are huge: people buy Kenny records in droves. Even his latest, which is not an album "official," has brought the fans out to the stores. and if you want to talk about staying power just look at how well "When The Sun Goes Down" performed on the album chart last year.
concerts: no one puts on a concert like Kenny except maybe Martina McBride. He gives a long show, filled with hits and crowd-pleasers ... he has more energy on stage than any of these other guys, and his vocals have grown stronger with each passing year.
singles: the facts speak for themselves ... just look how many Top 5's he's churned out over the past year.
and best of all, he keeps it country. his songs don't pander to another market or get watered down as adult contemporary.
finally, he's a real man. he is proud of where he comes from and he sings from the heart. he knows what manhood is all about ... celebrating women, friendships, history, etc. he doesn't have to act overly macho (Toby Keith, Trace Adkins) or glam it up like a pretty boy (Keith Urban, Joe Nichols) ... he's a real honest to goodness male vocalist who deserves to be crowned entertainer of the year.
as for the category itself, Martina should really be here in place of Brooks & Dunn or Keith Urban. If McGraw or Keith wins, that'll be fine I guess ...

Can we make this general as to who we think should have gotten it?

I agree that Kenny is the most deserving nominee this year. Tim would be my second pick, but none of the others should win IMO. I also agree that Martina McBride should have been nominated - she puts on a great show and has had a great year all around.

Shania Twain should have been nominated. In fact, she should have won this award.
Shania had the biggest country tour - which she headlined herself and went worldwide, album sales, profile in the media, Top 10 hit single, etc.
The fact that she was not even nominated for Entertainer of the Year completely diminishes the category.

Shania Twain should have been nominated. In fact, she should have won this award. I wanted to say this but didn't want to take the thread off topic. 1) Biggest country tour 2) Album sales in:2004: -COO: 365,000 -Up!: 544,000 -GH: 2,236,194 -Total: 3,145,194 And Keith Urban EOTY? Yeah right! Love the music, but he has nothing on Shania or Reba or others that should have gotten this..is it Kenny's time? Maybe, but Nashville will dump him soon for someone else.

Hey, I agree that Shania was a contender ... but remember, she has won this award before. She should have been nominated for EOTY last year for sure! Martina has been overlooked in this category a couple of times now.
As for my man Kenny, I don't see Nashville dumping the hottest artist of the past five years. Here's a guy who didn't rely on looks to get him where he is today ... he's a songwriter, a vocalist, an all-around entertainer. No one else puts the time and energy into a show that he does (Except the afore-mentioned Shania and Martina, and Reba's old tours) ... he has all the bases covered, and that's what this award is meant to honor. Kenny Chesney is country music all the way ... as for Keith: sorry little man, you can't play with the big boys yet.

By the way ... I don't dislike Keith Urban. I think he's one of the most talented men in country music, but it really burns me that he's up for EOTY so soon, and Martina's never even got a nomination if I'm correct.

I saw Kenny Chesney live and was very unimpressed with him. I felt that Toby Keith and Rascal Flatts (who I have also seen live) put on better shows.

I consider Martina to be a co-headliner with Alan Jackson, yes. When I saw them I was expecting it to heavily weigh towards Alan fans ~ not so. Martina had just as many people there who were most excited about seeing her.
Of course there are women screaming at Kenny's concerts ~ he is considered the number one sex symbol in country music. For somebody who has such a bunch of people pining for him, he's extremely down to earth and humble.
I think people are trying to sabotage him because he's so popular, but the numbers speak for themselves: we won't see a Kenny Chesney song miss the top 10 any time soon.

Don't take this the wrong way but that's not a good thing. IMO "I Go Back" sounds like it belongs on rock radio. And not everything he does is going to be top quality, deserving of a Top 10 hit. That can be said about everyone. I hate it when artists are guaranteed to get to the top. There are some songs that just don't deserve to be #1..

Sorry folks, but Kenny is indestructible. No one's going to bring him down at this point ...
I don't know why everyone wants to attack him anyway ... maybe just jealousy that a real man has made it in country music.
Reba, Toby, Keith: all of these artists respect him. He gives one hundred percent, and I am proud to call myself a Kenny Chesney fan.

Kenny's 15 minutes of fame? He's already established a years-long career ... now is his time to reign as a superstar.
Only once in a while does someone have the vocal chops, the songwriting skills, the on-stage presence and stamina, the looks, the humble personality, the videos, the sales, the chart success, and the charisma of Kenny Chesney.
My country favorites are Martina, Shania, Clint Black, Reba, Terri Clark, Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks, Clay Walker, and the one and only Kenny Chesney ...
all my friends that listen to rap and hip-hop made fun of me for liking country, but Kenny is the one that brought them all around ...

He hardly has what I would call "vocal chops"...his vocals aren't anything out of the ordinary, and it also seems that out of the singles he's released that I've seen writing credits for that his name never appears. If that's the case, he must not be that great of songwriter.

His voice will take you to places you want to go ... he can soothe you, take you down memory lane, to a beach or to a bar or to a quiet pasture. His voice will wrap itself around you and not let go.
And his voice is strong ... how else do you think he can move around the stage like that and not be out of breath?

Sorry, but his voice is the Voice of Country Radio. Aren't you a Reba fan? You know what true talent is, so there's no need to hop on this bandwagon of putting down Kenny.
Have you not felt the emotion that comes out of every note that that man sings? It's like listening to Reba: it doesn't matter what the song is, his voice adapts to the mood.
Seems to me that people want to bring Kenny down, and I'm here to say that's not going to happen. Top 5 singles, albums sales up the wazoo, charisma, boundless energy, and the best videos in the business. He's the man, and he's getting bigger by the day.
REBA MARTINA KENNY CLINT SHANIA JIMMY ... this is what Country Music is About
sorry Toby, you're no longer Big Man on Campus ... how's it feel to be outperformed by my man Kenny?

Well I know it's okay to agree to disagree, but I just don't understand how a Reba fan can't take to Kenny's voice ... they are both interpreters in the finest sense of the word.
One thing I will say: if there's anyone who has had more hits than Kenny, it's Reba. That woman has what can only be called an arsenal of hit singles.
I will say another thing, though, and I will say it loudly: Kenny Chesney ain't going anywhere.
Oh by the way ... why on earth does CMT keep playing that video for Alison Krauss's "Restless" when the song didn't even make the top twenty? I thought they were supposed to play the hits ... which would mean playing Kenny's video ... I think CMT has a vendetta against him, and I for one would like to know WHY?

If they have a vandetta against him, well all I can say is good for them. I never watch his vids all the way through because once I know its a Kenny vid, I immediately change the channel.
The only thing Reba and Kenny have in common with me is that I can't stand either one of them.
And again, Kenny's time will be over soon.

His voice doesn't do anything for me. He picks decent songs though and I enjoy a number of them. This is exactly how I feel about him. I have seen his concerts a number of times, but most of it is just show for the teenage girls. I think he does great songs for the most part. I adore "Anything But Mine." But vocally, he is just OK, nothing special. I certainly don't think he has grown vocally like Tim McGraw so noticably has in the past several years, and he's certainly no Clint or Ronnie Dunn or Trace vocal powerhouse. Kenny just has a specific brand that a very large group of fans have taken to. I will concede that he deserves the EOY award this year - he has worked his butt off and he brings in the numbers - but I hardly think of him as "the voice of country radio."

CMT is known for producing "video hits." One of the reasons I like CMT is because they give airplay to songs that radio doesn't. I just heard an interview with Trace Adkins the other day in which he noted having far more #1 videos than #1 songs. Nothing wrong with video airplay being different. Anyhow, I am not sure when you watch CMT, but I usually flip it on for background music in the morning, at night, and sometimes in evenings, and I see Kenny on there *a lot.* In fact, I think CMT is part of the reason for Kenny's superstar status. They had several specials about him - including his spring break concert or whatever it was a few years ago - when he was just breaking that boundary.

Everbody on here is out to get me, and I do not see why.
I am not a troll that comes in and insults one artist over and over. I love artists as diverse as Kenny, Reba, Shania, Dixie Chicks, Brad Paisley, Teri Clark, Martina, and Clint Black.
But I have learned two things about being on this board:
1) people are very intelligent and for the most part well spoken ... BUT
2) there is no sympathy for Kenny fans, and if you dare to say one bad thing about Lee Ann Womack, you are considered a traitor ... who in heck knew she had so much clout?
at any rate, Kenny Chesney rules ... and he could beat Tim McGraw if it comes to arm wrestling so take that.
oh, and one more thing ... if Lee Ann Womack is so great, how come Reba, Shania, and Teri all have better greatest hits collection than her?

I am not a troll that comes in and insults one artist over and over. And thank goodness for that! Those kind of people are so pathetic. :) I enjoy your posts, so not everybody is out to get ya. I'm not a huge Kenny fan, but I have nothing against him. I like him better than I like Tim McGraw, that's for sure. And Kenny has connected strongly with his audience, nobody can deny that.

I thought they were supposed to play the hits ... which would mean playing Kenny's video ... I think CMT has a vendetta against him, and I for one would like to know WHY? It's a conspiracy, my friend. Alison's dobro player is named Jerry Douglas. Douglas has the letters "-la-" in it. Alison's name starts with -la- backwards. These are references to Lee Ann Womack. The bass player is Barry Bales -- another -al-. Ron Block is -- sorry, I"m not authorized to reveal that one. CMT is obviously playing Alison's video as a signal that no criticism of Lee Ann will be tolerated. Or... Maybe you should go for a little walk and relax. Nobody here hates you. There's room for people to think Kenny Chesney isn't all that talented without you having to go off on them. There's even room for CMT to identify other artists and play their music -- lots of people enjoy Alison Krauss and her band, even though radio doesn't play them much. Lee Ann Womack is a fine singer, but if you don't like her, I can accept that. I don't need to defend her music -- go ahead, dislike her all you want. Criticize her on the board all you want. You ought to imagine that those of us who don't like Kenny have our reasons too. (I think How Forever Feels and That's Why I'm Here were terrific songs, but otherwise -- he's been a dud. Nothing personal toward him or you, just one country-music fan's opinion.) Keep posting, but take it easy.

Kenny is good. He has been around a while and worked really hard. So has everyone else. My only point is, I don't know how well you know Nashville but Kenny could be gone tomorrow. They turn that fast and that hard. Hopefully not..and I would also like to see him stray from the 'Puka Cowboy' image.
