music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-sept-8-2013-albums-braxton-sisters-145230006.htmlWeek Ending Sept. 8, 2013. Albums: The Braxton SistersPaul Grein Tamar Braxton’s long-awaited sophomore album, Love & War, enters The Billboard 200 at #2, just behind Ariana Grande’s debut album, Yours Truly. Tamar Braxton is the youngest sister of Toni Braxton, who has climbed as high as #2 with three albums: Toni Braxton (#1 in 1994), Secrets (#2 in 1996) and The Heat (#2 in 2000). This represents a huge advance for Tamar, whose debut album, Tamar, stalled at #127 in 2000. Love & War sold more copies this week (114K) than Tamar has in its entire run (96K). Love & War sold more than twice as many copies this week as Toni's last studio album, Pulse, sold in its first week (54K) in May 2010. It sold almost exactly the same number as Toni's previous album, Libra, sold in its first week in October 2005. It’s never easy to step out into your own when your sister is a famous, Grammy-winning star. Tamar didn’t use her last name on her 2000 album, presumably to de-emphasize the family connection. (She’s using it now.) Tamar is 36, nine years younger than her famous sister. Tamar has sung backing vocals on Toni's last three studio albums. Tamar’s only other previous appearance on The Billboard 200 came in 1996 when The Braxtons’ So Many Ways reached #113. The sister group at that point consisted of Tamar, Trina and Towanda Braxton. (Toni was also in the group from 1989 to 1991.) Another pair of sisters—Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson—has achieved comparable success. Ashlee had a pair of #1 albums: 2004’s Autobiography and 2005’s I Am Me. Jessica, the higher-profile media star, never reached #1. She climbed as high as #2 with 2004’s In This Skin. Ariana Grande’s Yours Truly is the first debut album by a female artist to reach #1 since Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday in February 2011. (I’m not counting Selena Gomez’s first solo album, Stars Dance, which hit #1 in July. She was already a star fronting Selena Gomez & the Scene.) The lead single from Grande's album, “The Way” (featuring Mac Miller), reached #9 on the Hot 100. It has sold 1,720,000 copies, making it the #32 best-selling song for the year-to-date. Grande is the second artist managed by Scooter Braun to land a #1 album. Justin Bieber has collected five of them. Yours Truly sold 108K digital copies, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. Nine Inch Nails’ eighth studio album, Hesitation Marks, debuts at #3. It’s the group's sixth top 10 album. The group first cracked the top 10 in October 1992 with the EP Broken. Hesitation Marks enters the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart at #2. That's the band's highest ranking to date in the U.K. With Teeth, which peaked at #3 in 2005, had held that distinction. John Legend’s fourth solo studio album, Love In The Future, debuts at #4. All four of these albums have made the top five. But, oddly for someone of Legend's stature, he has yet to land a #1 album. His highest-charting album, Once Again, reached #3 in 2006. Love In The Future is Legend's sixth top 10 album overall (counting a live album and a 2010 collabo with the Roots). Legend won a Grammy as Best New Artist of 2005. Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party drops from #2 to #5 in its fourth week. The album is #1 on Top Country Albums for the fourth week. It’s the first album to spend its first four weeks at #1 on the country chart since Taylor Swift’s Red, which spent its first 13 weeks on top (and 16 weeks overall). It’s the first album by a male solo artist to spend its first four weeks at #1 country since Brad Paisley’s 5th Gear in early summer 2007. Yesterday, as expected, Bryan received his first CMA Awards nomination for Entertainer of the Year. Imagine Dragons' Night Visions begins its second year on The Billboard 200 by rebounding from #16 to #10. The album has sold 1,401,000 copies. The album's biggest hit, "Radioactive" is closing in on Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" as the best-selling rock song in digital history. Katy Perry’s “Roar” is #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the fourth straight week (373K). “Roar” is the first song to spend its first four weeks at #1 since Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” spent its first five weeks on top in August-September 2012. Will “Roar” hold at #1 for the second week on the Hot 100? You’ll find out later today when we post Chart Watch: Songs. Here’s the low-down on this week’s top 10 albums. The Top Five: Ariana Grande’s Yours Truly debuts at #1 (138K). It’s her first top 10 album…. Tamar Braxton’s Love & War debuts at #2 (114K). It’s her first top 10 album…Nine Inch Nails’ Hesitation Marks debuts at #3 (107K). It’s the group’s sixth top 10 album… John Legend’s Love In The Future debuts at #4 (68K). It’s his sixth top 10 album…Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party drops from #2 to #5 in its fourth week (68K). It has been in the top five the entire time. The Second Five: Jaheim’s Appreciation Day debuts at #6 (58K). It’s his fifth top 10 album…Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines drops from #5 to #7 in its sixth week (57K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time… Avenged Sevenfold’s Hail To The King drops from #1 to #8 in its second week (42K)…Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience drops from #6 to #9 in its 25th week (38K). This is its 18th week in the top 10…Imagine Dragons’ Night Visions rebounds from #16 to #10 in its 53rd week (35K). This is its 19th week in the top 10. Six albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Big Sean’s Hall Of Fame drops from #3 to #24. Juicy J’s Stay Trippy drops from #4 to #15. John Mayer’s Paradise Valley drops from #7 to #16. Alabama & Friends' Alabama & Friends drops from #8 to #29. Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox drops from #9 to #26. TGT’s Three Kings drops from #10 to #21. Bastille’s first studio album, Bad Blood, debuts at #11. The album reached #1 on The U.K.'s Official Albums Chart in March. Bastille is a British alternative band. Its song “Pompeii” has climbed as high as #87 on the Hot 100. (Neil Sedaka had a #1 single titled “Bad Blood” in October 1975.) Neko Case’s The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love debuts at #12. It’s her second top 20 album. Middle Cyclone hit #3 in March 2009. Case first charted in 2003 as a member of the New Pornographers. That group's highest-charting album was Challengers, which reached #34 in 2007. The Teen Beach Movie soundtrack drops from #15 to #20 in its eighth week. It’s #1 on Top Soundtracks for the eighth week. It’s the first TV soundtrack (from a made-for-TV movie or a series) to top this chart for eight weeks since Lemonade Mouth scored in 2011. Raheem DeVaughn’s fourth studio album, A Place Called Loveland, debuts at #22. All four albums have had the word "love" in their titles. The new album failed to match the top 10 status of DeVaughn's last two releases. The 1975’s first full-length album, The 1975, debuts at #28. The album debuts at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart. Which raises the obvious question: What were the longest-running #1 albums in the U.S. and the U.K. in 1975? In the U.S., it was Elton John's Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy, which logged seven weeks at #1. In the U.K., it was The Best Of The Stylistics, which spent nine weeks at #1. The Great Gatsby: Music From Baz Luhrmann’s Film drops from #22 to #32 in its 18th week. It’s the week’s highest-ranking soundtrack from a theatrically-released movie for the eighth non-consecutive week. Adele’s 21, which rebounds from #59 to #56 in its 133rd week, this week tops the 500K mark in 2013 sales. Were most of these people buying additional copies, or did they finally break down and buy it after two years? Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans drops from #64 to #74 in its 151st week. It’s #1 on Top Catalog Albums for the ninth week. Mars recently wrapped his first headlining arena tour of North America. Luke Bryan’s Spring Break…Here To Party, which rebounds from #93 to #90 in its 27th week, topped the 500K mark in sales last week. Bryan’s current album, Crash My Party, is up to 847K. Bryan is the only artist with two albums that have sold 500K or more copies so far in 2013. One Direction's Up All Night—The Live Tour is #1 on Top Music Videos for the 32nd week. This is the longest any title has remained #1 since the chart was introduced (as Top Music Videocassettes) in March 1985. Riddick was #1 at the box-office over the weekend. Coming Attractions: The Weeknd’s Kiss Land, Keith Urban’s Fuse and 2 Chainz’s B.O.A.T.S. 2 Me Time will battle for the top spot next week. Also due: Sheryl Crow's Feels Like Home, Janelle Monae's The Electric Lady, Gloria Estefan's The Standards, Earth, Wind & Fire's Now, Then & Forever, Arctic Monkeys' AM and Sean Kingston's Back To Life.

www.billboard.com/articles/news/5687364/ariana-grande-debuts-at-no-1-on-billboard-200Ariana Grande Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard 200By Keith Caulfield, L.A. | September 11, 2013 "The Way" singer's first album tops new full-lengths by Nine Inch Nails and Tamar Braxton. Though it seemed like there was going to be a race for the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 this week, Ariana Grande's "Yours Truly" comes out on top by a sizable margin. The debut effort from the 20-year-old-singer/actress bows atop the list with 138,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Behind it R&B singer Tamar Braxton debuts with "Love & War," which launches at No. 2 with 114,000. (Braxton also bows at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and the Top R&B Albums chart.) Grande is the first female artist to debut at No. 1 with their first album since January 2010, when Ke$ha's "Animal" opened at No. 1. As for Braxton, she tallies the largest sales week for a female R&B/hip-hop album since last November, when Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire" bowed with 159,000. Last Friday (Sept. 6), there was a bit of a competition brewing between "Yours Truly" and "Love & War." At the time, industry sources suggested that "Yours Truly" was aiming for a start of around 115,000 to 120,000, while "Love & War" was eyeing a bow of 110,000 to 115,000. A day earlier, Grande's camp launched a successful download album promotion tied to an upcoming holiday party hosted by the singer. Consumers who purchased "Yours Truly" via her website (through Sunday, Sept. 8 — the final day of the tracking week) will receive a ticket to one of a series of events with Grande later this year. Label sources suggest that the holiday party offer drove between 5,000 and 7,000 in sales for the album. Details of the holiday events haven't been announced, but one could imagine they may include a concert by Grande and perhaps a meet-and-greet opportunity with her. Grande's sales were especially strong in the digital world, as 108,000 of her first-week sales were downloads, or 78%, of her debut. Comparably, Braxton's album only moved 51,000 downloads: 45% of her debut. Braxton's album, however, performed strongly as a CD with physical retailers like Walmart, Best Buy and Target. Because of that, Braxton actually has the No. 1-selling physical album this week (63,000), while Grande's set is the No. 7 digital seller (30,000). On the Digital Albums chart, Grande is No. 1, while Braxton is No. 2. Though "Love & War" didn't perform incredibly strong as a download, it was offered at a very attractive price in Braxton's Web store: $3.99. But there's other news in the top 10 aside from Grande and Braxton, as they are just two of the five new entries in the region. Nine Inch Nails returns with its first studio album since 2008, as "Hesitation Marks" bows at No. 3 with 107,000. The set is the act's first for Columbia Records, after two independently released studio efforts in 2008. Those indie albums—"The Slip" and "Ghosts I-IV"—launched at Nos. 13 and 14 with 29,000 and 26,000, respectively. The band's last major-label studio set, 2007's "Year Zero" on Nothing/Interscope Records, started at No. 2 with 187,000. All told, "Hesitation Marks" gives Nine Inch Nails its 14th charting set and sixth top 10 album. John Legend racks his sixth consecutive top 10 album on the Billboard 200, as "Love in the Future" bows at No. 4 with 68,000. He last visited the tally with his collaboration album "Wake Up!" (with the Roots), which debuted and peaked at No. 8 in 2010 (with a 63,000 bow). Before that, Legend's last solo set, 2008's "Evolver," debuted and peaked at No. 4 with a 133,000 start. Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party" is the first of the chart's holdover titles this week, as it slips 2-5 with nearly 68,000 (down 26%). The fifth and final debut in the top 10 is Jaheim's sixth studio effort, "Appreciation Day," which enters at No. 6 with 58,000. It's his fifth top 10 set and follows 2010's "Another Round," which debuted and peaked at No. 3 from a 112,000 debut. His new album tallies his lowest sales start for a studio album, falling lower than his first album's opening: 2001's "Ghetto Love" (80,000). Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" is pushed back 5-7 with 57,000 (though it's up 3%), and Avenged Sevenfold's "Hail to the King" falls 1-8 with 42,000 (down 74%). Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" also gains but dips 6-9 with 38,000 (up 3%). Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" closes the top 10, rising 16-10 with 35,000 (up 44%). The album—like those by Thicke and Timberlake—is boosted by sale pricing last week in the iTunes Store. All three albums were discounted to $6.99 as part of a back-to-school promotion. Over on the Digital Songs chart, Katy Perry's "Roar" holds at No. 1 for a fourth week, selling another 373,000 downloads (down 17%). Current Billboard magazine cover star Lorde flies 8-2 with her breakthrough single "Royals" as it moves 225,000 (up 34%). Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" zooms 6-3 with 197,000 (up 12%), while Eminem's "Berzerk" slides 2-4 with 187,000 (down 48%) in its second week. Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," featuring Pharrell and T.I., drops 3-5 with 168,000 (down 31%) while Lady Gaga's "Applause" falls 4-6 with 160,000 (down 25%). Perry and Lady Gaga both decline this week, following handsome gains a week ago in the wake of their performances on the MTV Video Music Awards (Aug. 25). Jay Z's "Holy Grail," featuring Timberlake, is steady at No. 7 with 159,000 (down 7%), and Lana Del Rey & Cedric Gervais' "Summertime Sadness" rises 11-8 with 127,000 (though it's down by 2% in sales). Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home," featuring Majid Jordan, rises one slot to No. 9 with nearly 127,000 (down 10%), and Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" falls 5-10 with 116,000 (down 42%). The latter song will likely make a gain next week, following consumer reaction to its official music video, which premiered Sept. 9. Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Sept. 8) totaled 5.1 million units, up 3% compared with the sum last week (4.9 million) and up 6% compared with the comparable sales week of 2012 (4.8 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 191 million, down 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (202.2 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 22.3 million downloads, down 1% compared with last week (22.6 million) and down 4% stacked next to the comparable week of 2012 (23.3 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 910.3 million, down 3% compared with the same total at this point last year (939.6 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2012 when: Dave Matthews Band's "Away From the World" debuted at No. 1, selling 266,000. All of the top six titles were new entries that week, with Little Big Town's "Tornado" blowing into the No. 2 slot with 113,000.

WOW! Great in-depth look @ the sales. I KNEW Tamar would be a beast on the physical world, her demographic is NOT here for iTunes, hence they album NOT leaking (even though people had the physical since like Saturday on early sales at Best Buy)
So Tamar sold:
63,000 physical copies 51,000 downloads 114,000 total 1st week #1 R&B album Biggest R&B female debut since Alicia Keys last year
Quite an achievement. So proud of Miss Tamar Now Vince better get her to promo THIS WEEK in the LA market and hard

^You should be somewhat proud of those who purchased the album, as well, no? ;) I sure am But I have a history of staning for people that really were nonchalant when it came to album promo. The fact that Tamar worked really hard on this project till the last minute makes me really appreciative for this amount, which surely is beyond what everyone was expecting - even her label

Still, both Billboard and Yahoo predicted #1 for Ariana from the beginning, rather than HDD who promoted this week's race as a 3-way.

I'm bracing myself for Natalia Kills' low sales. Trouble was only released digitally for this chart, and was physically released Tuesday 9/10.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5694979/chart-moves-bastilles-bad-blood-debuts-fleetwood-macs-opus-opens-littleChart Moves: Bastille's 'Bad Blood' Debuts, Fleetwood Mac's 'Opus' Opens, Little Big Town's 'Tornado' Celebrates Anniversary By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | September 13, 2013 9:30 AM EDT This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, budding pop princess Ariana Grande claimed her first No. 1. Her debut album, "Yours Truly," has sold 138,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Behind Grande at No. 2, Tamar Braxton's "Love & War" entered with 114,000 -- the largest sales week for a female R&B/hip-hop album this year. Outside the top 10 on the Billboard 200 there were a number of movers and shakers. Let's take a look at some of them… -- Bastille, "Bad Blood" (No. 11): British rock act Bastille (who Billboard first tipped as an act to watch on April 18 in our Bubbling Under column), debuts at No. 11 with its first full-length album, "Bad Blood." It follows the act's "Haunt" EP, which debuted at No. 1 on Heatseekers Albums on June 15, and has sold 26,000 copies. "Bad Blood" debuted at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart in March. -- John Mayer, "Paradise Valley" (No. 16): The former No. 2 album has slipped out of the top 10 after spending just two weeks in the region -- but there is no reason to panic. None of his previous studio albums spent more than three weeks (each) in the top 10, though they all went on to have sizable chart runs. -- Adele, "21" (No. 26): Absent from the top 40 for the past six weeks, this is the longest time "21" has been missing from the top 40 in its chart life. With 124 frames in the top 40, it has the third-most top 40 weeks of any album in the Nielsen SoundScan era (1991-present). Shania Twain's "Come on Over" leads all sets, with 127 weeks in the top 40. -- The 1975, "The 1975" (No. 28): The self-titled full-length debut release comes after the group issued four EPs since August 2012, two of which charted on the Billboard 200. The most recent of them, "IV," climbed to No. 2 on Heatseekers Albums on July 20. During release week, the 1975 received endorsements on Twitter from the likes of Ed Sheeran and One Direction's Harry Styles. Over in their homeland, "The 1975" was released last week as well, and debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. chart. -- Natalia Kills, "Trouble" (No. 70): The pop singer's second album enters with nearly 6,000 sold -- almost half of the total sales of her first release, 2011's "Perfectionist" (14,000). The latter set spent one week on the list at No. 134, and also peaked at No. 1 on Heatseekers Albums. -- Fleetwood Mac, "Opus Collection" (No. 72): The new 15-song greatest hits package was exclusively available at Starbucks. It grants Fleetwood Mac its 27th chart entry -- and second this year. (They debuted and peaked at No. 48 earlier this year with the "Extended Play" EP.) The band last bowed two new releases on the chart in the same year in 1975. -- Little Big Town, "Tornado" (No. 86): The country quartet's fourth studio album celebrates its one-year anniversary on the chart this week, having sold a total of 978,000. It has moved four times as many copies as their last album, 2010's "The Reason Why" (239,000). Only their first set, 2005's "The Road to Here" (1.3 million), has moved more than “Tornado.” -- Beastie Boys, "Licensed to Ill" (No. 113): Beastie Boys are on a number of different charts this week, by way of a sample on Eminem's new single "Berzerk." The track -- which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week -- borrows elements of the "Licensed to Ill" single "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)." The ever-popular album, released in 1986, is the No. 20 best-selling rap album of 2013, with 103,000 moved this year. -- Bob Marley and the Wailers, "Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers" (No. 148): Of the top 25 all-time best selling digital albums, "Legend" is the oldest of the bunch, having been released in 1984. (Legend is the 25th biggest selling digital set, with 716,000 downloads sold.) Only two pre-2008 releases populate the top 25: "Legend" and Journey's 1988 album "Greatest Hits" (No. 22; 753,000). The biggest selling digital album ever is Adele's "21," with three million downloads sold (of its overall 10.7 million).

I'm loving the legs of The Truth About Love, oldest album in the top 20 and still going strong almost a year later. If this was in 2001, I think this would approach Mizzundastood's numbers.
