Does anyone think Reba will hit Top 20 with her new single?
For all those who accuse Reba of accepting payola for "Somebody," what is your opinion of where the song would have peaked on its own merits?
Has Reba had any mainstream (as in non-Christmas) singles that inexplicably bombed? And by bomb, I don't mean peaked at #14 which you people in the Country forum seem to think is some kind of major flop ... I mean an honest-to-goodness flop.
Finally, what is the explanation for "Somebody" and "He Gets That From Me" peaking higher than "IGTTM," which was no disaster from my point of view. Do you think that was the wrong choice for her comeback single, or do you attribute it to the fact that 2003 was the dreaded year of "We don't play women on country radio."
oh, one more thing ... has Reba badmouthed the Dixie Chicks?

Does anyone think Reba will hit Top 20 with her new single? Yes, because I think it will connect with many female listeners that share the feelings mentioned in this song with their sisters. For all those who accuse Reba of accepting payola for "Somebody," what is your opinion of where the song would have peaked on its own merits? I would say still Top 5, maybe still #1. But the fact that they had to pay for it erases all credibility on the song for me. Great song though! Has Reba had any mainstream (as in non-Christmas) singles that inexplicably bombed? And by bomb, I don't mean peaked at #14 which you people in the Country forum seem to think is some kind of major flop ... I mean an honest-to-goodness flop. Not that I know of.. Finally, what is the explanation for "Somebody" and "He Gets That From Me" peaking higher than "IGTTM," which was no disaster from my point of view. Do you think that was the wrong choice for her comeback single, or do you attribute it to the fact that 2003 was the dreaded year of "We don't play women on country radio." I think both. It wasn't the right single to come back with, I mean I love the song, but...and the fact that country was having problems with females during that period definetly didn't help. oh, one more thing ... has Reba badmouthed the Dixie Chicks? I don't think so..

Does anyone think Reba will hit Top 20 with her new single? Top 20 yes. #3. That's the position it was before the week it went to #1. I'm not convinced it was payolaed to the extent that everyone claims, but Top 3 is where the song was on its own merits regardless. Yes. "Sweet Music Man" the second single from Greatest Hits Vol. 3 only managed to get to #36. Prior to that her last single to miss the Top 20 was "What If," her Salvation Army charity single from 1997. Although, it wasn't on an album and only available as a single, so I'm not sure if it counts. Other than those two pretty much everything she's officially released since 1980 has at least made the Top 20. Radio's anti-female attitude hurt the song. All female singles aside from Martina's were dying in the same area of the chart. I love the song and thought it was a breath of fresh air and perfect for a comeback single. She made some comments about them as jokes at the ACM's 2 years ago, but hasn't ever really said anything bad about them.

Reba has never said anything toward the Chicks directly, but she did say about a year or two after the incident that artists are in the public eye constantly so they have to say things and act in ways that support that.
