Where did this song peak on R&R? I feel that it's easily in Reba's top five greatest songs of all time, talking about quality. I know that Country radio, in its typical, idiotic fashion, didn't quite give it the airplay it deserved, but it made it up to #14 on "Billboard," a pretty big hit in spite of crappy Country radio.
I think that the dj's at many country radio stations should be tarred and feathered. They are so damned hypocritical it makes me sick. The thought that a song like this was considered "controversial" makes me ill. Almost as ill as the fact that "Godspeed" by the Dixie Chicks was kept from hit status because the singer of that band made a comment ...
I have also heard that Reba's "Fancy" received limited play, but at least she was strong enough to bust it into the top 10. I think it's a hoot that she's so talented they had to swallow their damned hypocrisy and play the record ... while Reba got to laugh all the way to the bank.

I love the song, but I can sort of see why it didn't make Top 10. Not everyone wants to hear a song about AIDS and death multiple times a day. It's a testament to her power at country radio at the time that it got as high as it did. I'm still glad it was released and shows what type of artist she is and that she isn't afraid to take risks. Sort of like Martina's "Independence Day" in that everyone knows the song, but it actually wasn't a huge hit.
Same with "Fancy" you still hear it nonstop as a recurrent, making most people think it was a #1 smash when it really only got to #7.

These 2 songs (STHNWJ and "Fancy") are probably considered among Reba's greatest hits (especially "Fancy"), but are nowhere near her biggest hits chartwise. It shows that how many times a song is played a week doesn't always give a true representation to the impact that it has in the long run. Another Reba song in this category is "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" - still receives a fair amount of airplay, but only got to #12.

I remember this, and haven't heard it in years. Definitely one of Reba's best.
