Just read where next weeks chart will have three songs from Rascal Flatts on it. Broken Road, Skin, and Fast Cars and Freedom. Skin is at 38 this week and Fast Cars is sitting at 41. Broken Road is falling though still in the top 10. How many other times has this happened? I know a lot of folks don't like these guys for some reason. I don't understand the whole "these guys are a boy band" theory. They are all great musicians and singers and seem to be really open to their fans. They haven't crossed over (yet) and keep pouring out hit after hit. Their next album will tell the tale for these guys. Do they branch out or stick to their guns?

It happens quite a bit actually it seems like. My best explanation as for why it happened with RF is because b4 Fast Cars was released as a single, Skin was scheduled to be released, and then of course, add into the mix that Broken Road was #1 and there you have it.

3 songs on the chart at the same time does happen, when new albums get airplay for unreleased tracks. But 3 songs in the top 40 at the same time, that's another thing entirely.
I haven't been able to find an instance of 3 simultaneous top-40 songs by one artist in the last 15 years, not on Billboard anyway. I didn't check to see if somebody made it because of the multiple credits on Hey, Good Lookin' -- that wouldn't be the same thing.
Maybe I've missed one. It doesn't happen much, though. I checked the Christmas songs to see if that helped someone. No dice. From a quick look at George Jones' chart peaks in the 1960's, I imagine he probably had 3 songs in the top 40 on a couple of occasions. Johnny Cash probably did it in the 1950's, but charts were so different then.
Will it happen for RF? Skin, #38 on April 2, might not make the top 40 on the April 9 chart -- Fast Cars (#41 and gaining fast) will, and Skin might. If not, the week after that Skin may bounce back after picking up its syndicated top 40 spins -- and the other two will be there. So if it doesn't happen April 9, it very well might on the 16th.
RF has a 4th charting song on Billboard now too, Oklahoma-Texas Line, down in the low 50's.

Back from his 7s album, Garth had the #1 song w/ Longneck bottle, 3/21/98. Two Pina coladas entered top 40 at 39. Longneck bottle was falling and kind of holding in the upper 30s at 37, and she's gonna make it was at #7 after peaking at 2. He had 3 in the top 40 the following week as well, as LNB was in it's 20th and final week. Another interesting part of this was TPC had accumulated 3 more weeks than SGMI, even though the later peaked earlier. Then in May, the week after SGMI dropped off the chart due to recurrent rule, to make you feel my love entered the top 40, and TPC was still at #10. That's the longest I know of...but see my post about George Strait in just a few mins...gotta research it quick. Thanks, Smack. That's good research. I had looked up Clint Black in early 1998, because of his Christmas top 40, but I never thought of checking Garth. Back then, Garth's songs went up very fast and he did have 5 hits that year. Appreciate your post.

Didn't Garth have the whole Sevens album on the chart at the same time, short of one song? That means some 13 songs. Was it on the Billboard chart.
An while we are on the topic. How high did LNB start of at the chart? Wasn't it the highest debuting single on RR of all time?

It debuted at #4 on RR if I remember (and fell to 5 the following week), but not all that high on BB, but zoomed into top 10 the 2nd week. It was #1 for 3 weeks, reaching #1 in an incredible 5 weeks, not seen again til Have You Forgotten did it (which actually was only in it's 4th week in top 40 when it hit #1). It charted on BB for 20 weeks, and I think all 20 were in the top 40 portion of the chart. I think he had all but 1 song chart one week from that album, falling just shy of the beatle's records for most singles on a chart at one time. And what is so ironic about the whole thing is that the best song (of the three) is the lowest on the charts! I love "Skin".
