According to the newest issue of R&R, 'Keg In The Closet will be the sixth & final single from Kenny Chesney's blockbuster CD 'When The Sun Goes Down'.
I know that Tim McGraw holds the record with five #1 singles (and 1 #2 single) from his 1997 blockbuster CD 'Everywhere', and I was wondering if Ms. Twain approached Tim's numbers with the parade of singles from either 'The Woman In Me' or 'Come On Over'?
Thanks!!!

I Feel Like A Woman! 4 8- You've Got A Way 13 9- Come On Over 6 10- Rock This Country! 30 11- I'm Holding On To Love (To Save My Life) 17 Interesting how Shania's ballads, on average, and with the exception of You're Still The One,(and to a lesser extent, From This Moment ON) all perform badly compared to her uptempo hits. (and YSTO and FTMO were crosover/multiformat hits, which obviously helped their overall chart performance) The Woman In Me (Needs The Man In You) 14 Home Aint Where The Heart Is (Anymore) 28 You've Got A Way 13 It Only Hurts When I Breathe 16 When You Kiss Me- low 60s Don't (slowly struggling, at # 23 currently) Basically only two top ten hits out of seven ballads, and one (DON'T) still undecided... I have a feeling that it has to do with the fact that her voice isn't well suited for ballads...after all, you have to convey emotional nakedness and true feeling, not to mention that ballads usually require Celine Dion-type voices, which Shania clearly doesn't have. Of course, there have been huge hit ballads sung by people with not-so-powerful voices, but what they lack in lungpower, they make up in raw emotional powerf and soul...and Shania also lacks that.

Personal opinion... And I told you that WYKM was not[/i] a single in the USA. The fact that it charted was because of stations playing it on their own and CMT playing the video. You also forgot FAFA...which peaked Top 5.

FAFA is a mid-tempo song...not a ballad in the traditional sense. (Not to mention that it also got loads of pop and AC airplay...that always helps a song in overall chart performance) (Not that it matters, Shania still can't instill in the song a shred of emotional conviction) But on average, nope, Shania's ballads usually don't become hits...

Judging Shania's singing ability with her ballads based on chart position is just stupid. ....oh wait...FrancineLangeInNY wrote that...nevermind, everything he says is ridiculous. ;)

Releasing a ballad that clearly shows a subpar performance does affect chart performance. An uptempo song can more easily "disguise" vocal shortcomings, but a ballad, with its slow tempo and usually less busy production, makes a voice that's weak, even more obviously weak. And since Shania's voice doesn't have Celine Dion's power or Alison Krauss' emotional rawness, there's your reason as to her ballads usually underperforming...the audiences simply don't connect with them. It's not a big deal, the same thing happens to other pop studio creations, like Britney and J-lo...that's why they don't release that many ballads either...

The answer to the question Marv asked is no. She had 4, Tim had 5. That's it, the other discussion is tired.

Marv, the only artist who's ever had 5 Billboard #1 country songs from one album is Rodney Crowell -- I'm only mentioning this because of the coincidence of you and me both posting on a different, Crowell-related thread. Tim only had 4 #1 songs from Everywhere on Billboard, plus 2 #2 songs. (By the way, those 5 #1's represented all of Crowell's lifetime #1 songs.)
I was thinking that Tim's current album would have a good chance to produce 5 #1 Billboard songs, but Drugs and Jesus is not acting like a future #1 right now -- still, it could happen.
Chesney would have had a good chance to tie or break Crowell's record if his timing had been a little different. I Go Back would ordinarily have been a #1 song. I wouldn't say that about The Woman With You, which got the chart run it figured to get.

Thanks Zazie--I do remember that Tim had five #1s from 'Everywhere' in R&R, and 'For A Little While' peaked @ #2, thanks in large part to KZLA.
KZLA was the last station on their panel to add 'FALW', and they slashed airplay on it during the same week it was primed to hit #1 in R&R, displacing Randy Travis's 'Spirit Of A Boy', if memory serves.
Had KZLA not slashed the airplay in that particular week, Mark Chestnutt would have had to settle for three weeks @ #1 instead of 4 with 'I Don't Wnat To Miss A Thing'.
'One Of These Days' actually TIED a George Strait song for most spins spins the week it hit #1 in R&R, but was listed as #1 because it was being played on all 207 of R&Rs reporters, vs. 206 for the Strait single (which I believe was either 'I Just Want To Dance With You' or 'Today My World Slipped Away').
King George did hit #1 at R&R the following week.
To Shaniagotchagood--thank you--VERY nicely done; I really appreciated the research.
