Another week and no change at the top as Robin Thicke and company stay on top of Rick's chart for the sixth week in a row (or fifth as Rick stated) with "Blurred Lines". While "Radioactive" hangs around another week at #3, and Anna Kendrick stays at #2, Capital Cities has the best shot at unseating Robin for the next two weeks until Katy Perry moves closer. In the meantime, Katy Perry ranks one spot higher than the song many thought Katy "stole" from, Sara Bareilles's "Brave". Neither Rick or Ryan last week mentioned this with both charts featuring the songs back-to-back. However, if anyone does not notice the similarities between the two songs, just Google the "Roar/Brave" mash up.
As stated before, New Zealand singer songwriter Lorde is speeding up the chart herself with her first hit "Royals", up 11 spots to #11 in just her third week. Therefore, she may influence the #1 battle in the coming weeks as well.
Lots of debuts this week, including first hits by Avici and Lana Del Rey. The latter artist sounds a lot like a Stevie Nicks clone, with her voice fitting in nicely with the 80's retro sound dominating the charts these days. Her song is decidedly 2010's dance sounding though, at least the remix playing on many CHR & Hot AC stations. Her first hit also fits the season very well, as "Summertime Sadness", debuts at #32 this week.
