Honestly, they all sound like VILE people. Clearly, Casey picked Jean's vay-jay over his kids by allowing her to ban them from her (their) house. He knew what he was doing if he was going over to kids house during weekend. Let's not forget - she was 26 and he was 48 when they married. We know she didn't marry him for his looks and he didn't marry her for her warm "heart." I can't believe this is CNN.com's TOP story.

It's so pathetic and sad that Casey's family can't put their issues aside for the sake of his ailing health.

I'm just saying I'm having a hard time feeling empathy for the primary players Casey/Jean - I feel for his kids because from everything they've said, they only want their dad and not the money.

Now that he's OK, I wonder if kidnapping charges will be filed against the wife

Apparently husband and wife are vacationing in Washington State. Casey was found by authorities who promptly left as they determined he is not being mistreated and is not in distress.
The timing of a "vacation" with someone who really belongs in a nursing home is amusing.

Regardless of who's to blame, it's really upsetting to know that Casey Kasem has to deal with this in his final years.
I definitely think there are two sides to this story, but the most telling piece of evidence to me is that Jean wouldn't let anyone visit Casey. If this is really just a matter of his kids fighting over his will, why isn't Jean letting other family members see him either?

Kerri Kasem's latest response regarding the wife's response that they are "on vacation"
" "Vacation"?!"
An 82-year old man with a terminal, horribly debilitating diseases on "vacation"? ***Look up Lewy Body Dementia, confusion and stress can occur in unfamiliar surroundings among other things. THIS IS NOT A "VACATION" "

My take: Clearly stepmom and kids don't like each other. However, Dad and kids have a good relationship. There was regular contact until it became clear the end is near. The stepmom/kids relationship is irrelevant here. She is in this for the money. She might be thinking if they had access the kids could convince Casey to change his will. Not gonna happen anyway, a will can only be changed if he is of sound mind and body and he is obviuosly not. Her money is not at risk here.

I agree with all of that, and will also add that I do think there's a good chance that one or more of the kids were after the will money at one point, but genuinely just want to see their father now.
I just hope that, if Kerri does get to become Casey's primary caretaker, she doesn't try to banish Jean from seeing him out of spite. Because that would just make Kerri look bad.

The plot thickens.... Casey Kasem's family propose using armed guards to take him from wife's custody in Washington
Lawyers for the 82-year-old and his eldest daughter Kerri are trying to have him removed from his wife Jean's custody and brought to a hospital. Kerri Kasem has expressed concern that Jean will try to flee the country with her ailing father. BY Nancy Dillon / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS / Tuesday, May 20, 2014, 5:16 AM Read more: www.nydailynews.com/news/national/casey-kasem-family-propose-armed-guards-wife-article-1.1798836#ixzz32GtExPCfLOS ANGELES β Armed guards may soon be needed in the fight over the medical care of radio legend Casey Kasem. Lawyers for the ailing βAmerican Top 40β king and his eldest daughter, Kerri, are discussing a proposal under which armed security would take him from his wifeβs custody in Washington state and move him to a hospital for an evaluation, a legal source told the Daily News Monday. A court-appointed lawyer representing the 82-year-oldβs interests as a neutral party filed paperwork Monday asking that Kasemβs wife, Jean, be forced to surrender her husbandβs passport, and work with Kasemβs daughter on the transfer, sources said. Kasem has Lewy Body Dementia and requires a feeding tube. Kerri Kasem and her siblings have been battling their estranged step-mother for months regarding visitation and a say in his medical care. Kerri Kasem supports the proposal and wants the security to make sure nothing goes wrong, the source said. Jeanβs camp objected on Monday, setting the stage for a hearing on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Jeanβs lawyer, Craig Marcus, filed paperwork to withdraw from the case, sources said. βWe anticipate tomorrow weβll be granted more direction and authority to get real access, because right now Kerri is not being allowed any access,β Martha Patterson, an elder care lawyer who is working with Kerri, told The News on Monday. βOur goal is to get Mr. Kasem to a hospital. Heβs vulnerable, and we donβt believe heβs benefiting from a vacation in a foreign environment,β she said. Kasemβs wife recently brought him from California to Washington state. The lawyer said Kerri was in the process of filing her Los Angeles conservatorship order in a Washington State court to help ensure that Jean follows the judge's directives and doesn't move Kasem again. A pop culture fixture for decades, Kasem was back in the headlines last week as the subject of a widely publicized manhunt. It started when a judge ordered an investigation into his whereabouts last Monday, leading California's Adult Protective Services to ask for a welfare check by the Kitsap County Sheriff in Washington state the next day. Kerri Kasem filed her own missing-person report on Wednesday, unaware of the welfare check. A sheriffβs spokesman said that Kasem, who also was the voice of Shaggy in the animated hit βScooby Doo,β appeared to be in good condition and was on a vacation with his wife. Authorities spent 40 minutes with Kasem at an undisclosed address in Port Orchard, Wash. βHe was seated upright and was cognizant of the fact that we were there,β spokesman Scott Wilson told The News Thursday. βHe had all his medications, he was clean and there were no indications of neglect or abuse.β Kerri Kasem said she won't rest until he sees a doctor and returns home. βIβm very worried that Jean is pulling the wool over the sheriffβs eyes and that she might make a break to leave the country,β Kerri Kasem told The News on Monday. βTheyβre a ferry boat ride away from Canada and a few miles from an Indian reservation. If heβs moved again, his life might be in danger. Iβm very worried.β

The will can't be changed anyway even if they wanted to change it. Once he loses the power to make his own decisions the will is final unless the wife herself changes it.

Casey Kasem's wife served with guardianship papers
BREMERTON, Wash. β The wife of ailing radio personality Casey Kasem was served Friday with a California court order that temporarily suspends her powers to determine her husband's medical care amid concerns about his health and welfare.
The order Kitsap County sheriff's deputies said they delivered also expands daughter Kerri Kasem's authority to determine whether her father, who's now in Washington state, is receiving adequate medical care.
Wife Jean Kasem told KING-TV in an interview aired Friday evening that her husband is getting the best possible care and she is "not going to allow anybody to shred (her) family on unfounded facts and malicious accusations."
"My husband is very happy and comfortable in our family and has told me time and time again that he wishes to remain under my care," she said.
"Why is she trying to block a doctor from seeing my father?" Kerri Kasem asked in a statement Friday night, telling her stepmother, "If you truly love my father, you will do the right thing and allow him to get proper medical treatment."
Kerri Kasem's spokesman Danny Deraney said she has a special Washington state court order that allows her to see her father, but there was no timetable for when that will happen.
On Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy ordered Jean Kasem to comply with court orders allowing doctors to evaluate her husband, and also allow his daughter Kerri to see him. He also ordered Jean Kasem to surrender her husband's passport and temporarily suspended her powers to determine her husband's medical care.
In mid-May, Murphy had expressed concerns about Kasem's whereabouts and safety amid a dispute between his wife and children from another marriage.
The sheriff's office in Kitsap County, west of Seattle, tracked him down the next day.
Sheriff's Deputy Scott Wilson said officers who performed a welfare check May 13 on the 82-year-old Kasem found him staying at the home of long-time family friends. Jean Kasem says they are on a family vacation.
Kasem "appeared to be not in distress," Wilson said Friday. "He couldn't speak but he appeared to us to be cognizant of what was going on around him and who people were."
The sheriff's spokesman said medications were present and those at the home, including Jean Kasem, said appropriate medical care was being provided. Medical professionals, including doctors and visiting nurses, have been "attending him as required," Wilson said.
Kerri Kasem's court filings state her father is suffering from a form of dementia called Lewy Body Disease.
The sheriff's spokesman noted that the officers who delivered the court order were "basically the messengers between the courts in California" and Kasem's connections in Washington.
"We wouldn't enforce anything until we were directed by the Washington court and coordinated with our prosecutor's office," Wilson said. "That hasn't happened."
Kasem gained fame with his radio music countdown shows, "American Top 40" and "Casey's Top 40," and he was the voice of Shaggy in the cartoon "Scooby Doo."

Statement from Jean Kasem:
I wish that they hadn't gone as far as to send an armed guard to Jean and Casey. It really does nothing for Kerri's (100% valid) argument that Casey needs to not be in distress.

Casey Kasem hospitalized after dramatic scene unfolds at home
Maria Elena Fernandez
Radio icon Casey Kasem was hospitalized in Washington on Sunday after a dramatic scene unfolded outside the home where he has been staying β a situation which culminated with his wife throwing a pound of hamburger meat at his eldest daughter from his first marriage.
As ordered by Kitsap County Judge Jennifer Forbes on Friday, Casey Kasem's daughter Kerri was able to visit him on Friday for the first time since his wife removed him from a Santa Monica facility and transported him to Washington without notifying his family. Forbes also ruled that Kerri Kasem, 41, would be able to take her father to be evaluated by a physician and hospitalized, if necessary.
Kerri Kasem testified at the hearing that the doctor hired by Jean Kasem had told her that her 82-year-old father had developed infections in his lungs and bladder and has bed sores.
"Kerri was just very, very upset because her dadβs health had declined so much since she and Julie saw him on May 6," her aunt Mary Kasem, who lives in Michigan, told NBC News. He just went backwards. She was so heartbroken on Friday that it broke my heart."
On Sunday, Kerri Kasem arrived at the home with an ambulance to take Casey Kasem to a hospital, but paramedics were not allowed inside the Silverdale residence. A few minutes later, someone inside the home called 911, and a second ambulance and fire truck arrived. After the fire truck was called away to an emergency, Jean Kasem, 59, walked downstairs and threw a pound of raw hamburger meat at Kerri. The paramedics were finally able to go inside and pick up Casey Kasem.
"In the name of King David, I threw a piece of raw meat into the street in exchange for my husband to the wild rabid dogs."
After Casey Kasem was gone, Jean Kasem told NBC News that she was following a King James verse when she threw the meat at her stepdaughter.
"In the name of King David, I threw a piece of raw meat into the street in exchange for my husband to the wild rabid dogs," she said.
"Everything she's doing is just making it worse for herself," Mary Kasem said when she learned how Jean had behaved on Sunday.
It was the second time since Friday's hearing that Jean Kasem acted out. A few hours after Judge Forbes said she was going to carry out a Los Angeles judge's orders that Kerri Kasem be in charge of her father's medical care, Jean Kasem held a news conference in which she played cell phone audio of her husband moaning. She claimed that he was protesting the judge's decision.
"That was just so sad and wrong," Mary Kasem said. "We don't know if that's him or not. But if it is, he's probably groaning because he has stage three bed sores, a lung infection, and a bladder infection. For her to put out something like that and claim that is just awful."
Forbes has scheduled another hearing for Friday.
Jean Kasem is best known for her role on the '80s hit "Cheers." She and Kasem married in 1980 β she and the radio personality have a 23-year-old daughter.

This case has gone from bizarre to just plain sad. The wife needs to be removed quickly

Yeah, I think it's very likely that Kerri, Mike and/or Julie have shown money-hungry tendencies in the past (resulting in a rightfully upset Jean), but it's becoming increasingly obvious that Jean is the primary problem this time.

Judge: Kasem can go home to wife if doctors OK it
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) β Ailing radio personality Casey Kasem can return to the Washington state home where he's been staying with his wife if doctors approve, a judge said Monday.
The ruling came a day after Kasem, 82, was taken by ambulance to a medical facility after an argument between his wife and one of his daughters.
Kasem can return to the home near Seattle where he and his wife, Jean, have been staying with friends if there's medical supervision and doctors say it is safe to transport him, Kitsap County Superior Court Judge Jennifer Forbes said Monday.
It was not immediately clear when that decision might be made.
The ruling marked the latest twist in the ongoing dispute between Jean Kasem and her stepdaughter, Kerri Kasem, who has said in legal filings that her father suffers from a form of dementia. They have been contesting who should make decisions about the entertainer's care.
Authorities responded Sunday to a 911 call at the house and found Jean and Kerri Kasem arguing, said Deputy Scott Wilson, a Kitsap County sheriff's spokesman.
Danny Deraney, a spokesman for Kerri Kasem, said Jean Kasem tossed a package of ground meat at her stepdaughter.
"If you need to know why I did it β when a person is about to pass away, there are always rabid dogs," Jean Kasem told reporters in response to a question after Monday's court session.
A doctor was present when Casey Kasem was removed from the home, the sheriff's spokesman said. Kerri Kasem accompanied her father when the ambulance took him to receive care, Deraney said. His condition could not be determined.
Kerri Kasem said in court Friday that her father is suffering from bedsores and lung and bladder infections. Forbes ruled then that she could have a doctor of her choosing examine her father

Casey Kasem's First Wife on Meat-Tossing Second Wife Jean Kasem: 'She Is Absolutely Crazy'DJ Casey Kasem, 82, who suffers from dementia and is worth $80 million, was taken from a friend's home in Silverdale, Wash., to a hospital on June 1 as his wife, Jean Kasem, angrily hurled hamburger meat, muttering about King David and dogs. Her macabre outburst, meant to satirize the press -- and Kasem's family -- as canine carnivores devouring her dying husband, may have also been an allusion to the Bible's Psalm 59, attributed by some to King David: "Deliver me from myenemies...let them make a noise like a dog...let them wander up and down for meat." Said Jean Kasem, "If you want to know why I did it, when a person is about to pass away, there are always rabid dogs." Casey Kasem Can Go Home to Wife If Doctors Approve, Judge Says Several Kasem family members claim that the incident shows Jean Kasem herself potentially has mental illness. "In my opinion, it does," Kasem's daughter Kerri Kasem tells THR. "She is absolutely crazy -- no, I really mean it," says Linda Myers Naylor, Casey Kasem's first wife and the mother of his daughters Kerri and Julie Kasem, who are battling Jean Kasem over Casey Kasem's treatment. "It's been like this for 34 years," says Casey's brother Mouner Kasem. "She's crazy. I'm not joking." "Crazy, crazy, crazy," Julie Kasem says of her stepmother's actions. "It reminds me of Austin Powers saying, 'Who throws a shoe?'" says Kerri Kasem's publicist Danny Deraney. "I mean, who throws meat?" Jean Kasem told Seattle's NBC affiliate KING 5 that in May, both LAPD and Silverdale's Kitsap County Sheriff found no abuse of Mr. Kasem. Kitsap Judge Jennifer Forbes ruled June 2 that Mrs. Kasem can bring Casey home to Silverdale with the doctor's okay. Jean Kasem thinks it's the legal system that has gone crazy. "The probate system in California is broken and vulnerable in facilitating corruption, and if no one wants to fix it, then I will," she said. "My husband is very happy and comfortable in our family, and has told me time and time again that he wishes to remain under my care and does not want a conservator. The fact that Sam Ingham III, a PVP [probate volunteer panel] attorney, brought with him an armed guard strikes with me as near psychotic." "When Kerri got to the Silverdale house, Jean had hired 70-year-old Vietnam vets in leather chaps as guards," Deraney retorts. "She is pathological," continues Naylor. "My daughters are trying very, very hard to bring him back [to health], to get the right medical care. When they saw him in Santa Monica [at a hospital] May 6, he recognized them and was very happy." After that May 6 visit, Jean Kasem removed Mr. Kasem from the hospital and disappeared. Authorities located them in Silverdale. After Kerri Kasem saw her father again, the shock of his apparent decline after 24 days made her cry. "Casey has a 50 percent chance to make it six more months," says Deraney. Casey Kasem's Wife Ordered to Court On June 3 and again on June 6, there will be hearings in Washington on the case. "On June 20, there is a hearing that will decide on the temporary [health] conservatorship Kerri has," says Naylor. "Let's just hope that Casey is still there for them to have this argument." "I wish Casey and I could have worked it out," says Naylor, who divorced him because of his temper -- "I shouldn't say this, but he was a screamer" -- and still loves him and wants their children to see him before he dies. "Who knew that he would find this horrible woman? But he just didn't have the guts to leave her." www.billboard.com/articles/news/6106493/casey-kasems-first-wife-on-meat-tossing-second-wife-jean-kasem-she-is

Casey Kasem's Wife Fights Back in Court Papers
On Wednesday Jean Kasem filed court papers in Washington that include a Church of Scientology's members list from an entertainment site, an affidavit showing Casey Kasem's financial gifts to his daughter, and a letter from a physician disputing that his condition has worsened since he left Los Angeles.
For a year, Jean Kasem, 59, has been fighting her husband's children from a previous marriage and his other relatives over his medical care and condition. The family says Jean Kasem suddenly shut them out and wouldn't return their phone calls or allow them to see the ailing radio icon. Although Jean Kasem still hasn't explained why she has kept her husband from his family, she has accused his children of wanting his $80-million fortune.
Specifically, Jean Kasem has said that Kerri Kasem, 41, who has been assigned to be her father's healthcare conservator by a judge, wants to donate his fortune to the Church of Scientology. Kerri Kasem has denied being a member of that church β the documents submitted in Kitsap Superior Court on Wednesday include an entertainment site's unverified roster of celebrity Scientologists that includes Kerri Kasem.
The court filing also accuses Kerri Kasem of owing Casey and Jean Kasem $1.3 million. An in-house accountant for the former "Cheers" actress estimates that Casey Kasem has loaned Kerri Kasem over $630,000 since she turned 18, and that less than 15 percent of that money would be considered gifts.
On Wednesday, Kerri Kasem told NBC News that she considers the claims "defamation of character." She vehemently denied borrowing money from her father and said that her "bank account is an open book to the court." Kerri Kasem says she has studied several religions, including Scientology and Buddhism.
"I've studied many religions and Jean will of course find the most controversial one and use it against me," she said.
The court filing also disputes what Kerri Kasem testified in court last week about her father, who is battling Lewy Body dementia, a terminal illness.
Kerri Kasem said that Dr. Donald Sharman, who has been treating Casey Kasem in Washington since May 13, told her that her father had developed bed sores and infections in the lungs and bladder since Jean Kasem removed him from a Santa Monica facility and transported him to Washington without notifying his family. They stayed at a friend's house with their 24-year-old daughter, Liberty, until Casey Kasem was hospitalized on Sunday.
But in a court declaration, Sharman says a June 1 examination showed no infections or bed sores. He also said when he first examined Casey Kasem at his friend's home, "I found the care he was receiving from his wife and daughter and care providers hired by them to be appropriate."
On May 6, Jean Kasem took her husband of 33 years to stay at the home of a family she has known since 1967, according to the documents.
One of the family members is Shasta Bartelheim, a certified nursing assistant, who also said in a declaration: "Despite all the drama and chaos and excessive stress that Kerri Kasem has brought to our home and neighborhood, and all of this massive legal paperwork and media that Jeannie has to handle simultaneously, Jeannie has endlessly and tirelessly given her husband the best care and she loves Casey and her daughter Liberty."

Forgetting for a second, the daughter vs stepmom circus act - this is the real issue here:
Spokesman: Casey Kasem's health takes a turn for the worse
TACOMA, Wash. - Ailing radio icon Casey Kasem's health has taken a turn for the worse just days after he was taken to a local hospital by his daughter.
The latest development comes after a bitter family battle over his care shifted from Los Angeles to Western Washington, where his wife Jean brought him last month.
There are reports that Kasem is in a hospital in Pierce County. His daughter Kerri brought him there after a Kitsap County judge ruled that she could have him examined by doctors.
A spokesman for Kasem's daughter says his family has gathered at the hospital to be with him as his health declines.
It is the latest sad twist in a family battle that started in Los Angeles. Kasem's wife and daughter have been fighting in court over the 82-year-old's medical care.
Last month his wife moved kasem to Washington state for treatment for debilitating dementia. But a judge in California had ruled his daughter should be making medical decisions when it comes to his care.
A Kitsap County judge cleared the way for Kerri Kasem to move her father, and he was moved to a hospital on Sunday by ambulance. Kasem's wife protested the move by tossing a package of raw hamburger meat at Kasem's daughter and shouting a phrase about "King David" and "rabid dogs."
Kasem's condition is not known, but Kerri Kasem said at a court hearing in Kitsap County that her father is suffering from bedsores and lung and bladder infections.
