Lauryn Hill is back with a new single on the heels of her release from prison. Listen here: https%3A//soundcloud.com/mslaurynhill/ms-lauryn-hill-consumerism-1Buy on iTunesLauryn's explanation about this song: Consumerism is part of some material I was trying to finish before I had to come in. We did our best to eek out a mix via verbal and emailed direction, thanks to the crew of surrogate ears on the other side. Letters From Exile is material written from a certain space, in a certain place. I felt the need to discuss the underlying socio-political, cultural paradigm as I saw it. I haven't been able to watch the news too much recently, so I'm not hip on everything going on. But inspiration of this sort is a kind of news in and of itself, and often times contains an urgency that precedes what happens. I couldn't imagine it not being relevant. Messages like these I imagine find their audience, or their audience finds them, like water seeking it's level.
There is so much that is wrong with this song. As a fan of her back in the day, it makes me sad that this is the direction she has chosen to go in during the last few years. I don't think we will ever get a real followup to The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill.

All her music from the past several years sounds like it was recorded by the crazy guy on the street corner.

The instrumental could work, but she needs to slow down her flow. Damn I think i was about to faint trying to keep up.

All of her recent songs sound like demo's. I would like this if it was touched up, finished and mastered properly.

Good instrumental...interesting anyway. Still, the song is a mess.

Complete and utter GARBAGE. Unlistenable trash.
She will never make good music again, EVER. Period. End of story. The sooner people accept that, the less they'll keep getting disappointed when she drops crap like this.

I wish she would stop trying to be deep and just croak out some Jazmine Sullivan and Salaam Remi tracks. Sheesh. Nobody wants this confusing anti-America chant shit.

The flow and production goes with the topic perfectly.
