Speaking of the girls, how could I forget:
Shedaisy's Passenger Side... should have been a #1. One of the best songs of '04.
And it isn't even on the charts yet, but let me say Mindy Smith's chilling, beautiful "One Moment More" will probably be ignored by radio, and that's a shame...

It was close to Top 10 and Mindy is never going to get played on country radio. Radio already has tried that single if I'm not mistaken and it didn't do anything.

Oh, there are so many...! Ticket Out Of Kansas - Jenny Simpson. (Does anyone remember Jenny? I think she had the bad luck of coming out right at the time when Nashville was in the middle of its "Belting Diva"-stage, and she didn't fit in with that image...) I LOVE JENNY SIMPSON! A great CD but that song is by far the best one. Honestly one of the best songs I've ever had. Could have been a major hit if radio had given it a chance. Do you know how well it did? Also, Shelly- Tiny Town should have made it. And I really like the Jenkins too. Getaway Car was great, although I prefered Susan Ashston's version (another great CD: Susan Ashton- Closer).

How could I forget Rebecca Lynn Howard? - and I know she has other fans around here. I loved "I Need a Vacation" and "What a Pity." Also pretty much anything by the Warren Brothers. They've had a lot of nifty little singles that just go nowhere. My favorites were "Beat of the Heart," "Tell Me Where it Hurts," and "We Sell a Lot of Beer."
Passenger SEAT actually peaked at 12, which for some reason is a higher than I thought. Still should have been a #1 ;)

RLH is HIGLY underappreciated. I can't say I liked What A Shame and I Need a Vacation....personally I thought those were 2 of the worst songs she ever recorded, but I just don't understand why radio doesn't get behind someone with talent like hers, but yet they do to Faith.

Maybe her age and transition to grownup woman is making it hard to market her, but her record company is sure screwing it up, switching singles in midstream, no web site, poor promotion, etc. Why don't they resort to payola the way the other record companies do? ~ Jim

Passenger Seat was a hit, but I had hopes it would go even higher. Getting blacklisted in Dallas didn't help. All Shedaisy singles from Sweet Right Here have received no airplay at either large Dallas station (except one or two a week due soley to syndicated spins).

Total spins in Dallas this week on R&R... KPLX: zero KSCS: 2 It's been like this in Dallas for all their recent singles, except I think Passenger Seat got a lower rotation from KSCS for a short while. That didn't last long though. KPLX put Don't Worry 'Bout a Thing on 'OFF' status two weeks ago, according to an R&R detailed summary I receive. What does that mean, exactly? It's the only station where the song is marked 'OFF'. The two weeks prior to going to 'OFF' status at KPLX, it actually got one spin per week there, somehow. Since the off status occured, it's gotten zero spins.

'Desperately' reached the top 5 @ R&R, so it defeinitely WAS a hit!!!!
Two recent singles from Strait which didn't crack the top ten were 'Don't Make Me Come Over There And Love You', which peaked in the upper teens @ R&R.
There was also 'Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa', which peaked at #11 in R&R; I don't know where it peaked at BB.

It's hard to define what is a hit -- maybe it varies a little from artist to artist, because if Jill King made the top 40, that would be big for her; but when George Strait or Tim McGraw misses the top 10, that's news. I generally think of top 20 as the cutoff, subject to some variation depending on whose song it is.

That's a good point Zazie because hits don't always generate sales. For example, Craig Morgan had a huge hit with "That's What I Love About Sunday" but has only sold 100,000k last time I checked. And then there are artists like Shania that have "hits" but not huge #1 hits and still sell...I think a hit is to each his own.

All Shedaisy singles from Sweet Right Here have received no airplay at either large Dallas station (except one or two a week due soley to syndicated spins). I thought the song would have peaked between #5 and #7, so I was upset to see it stall at #12 on BB and #9 on R&R...it's the most radio-friendly song on the album and actually TOOK OFF from the start, making the Top 20 in 11 weeks...it took DWBAT 18 weeks to reach #19. Radio is unpredictable. I just hope that if the girls and their label are smart and go with GOOD TOGETHER ( BUCKET & CHICKEN) as the fourth single, that we aren't posting about that song in this thread later this year. . I think that song has Top 5 potential. And to add to the thread... I thought Sherrie Austin would hit it BIG with DRIVING INTO THE SUN. It was disappointing to see that not even crack the Top 40.

That's a good point Zazie because hits don't always generate sales. I remember when you had to sell a lot of records to have a hit. I guess that's the reason we are talking in this thread. The sweetheart deal between the record companies and the radio conglomerates is an embarrassment to me. We should rename the country singles chart Corporate Country Singles. ~ Jim

Rachel Proctor's second single, 'Didn't I?' was easily among the best songs I heard in 2004, but it only made it to #48 in R&R.
It was a great follow-up to her debut single, the top 20 hit 'Days Like These', and the predecessor to her top 20 masterpiece 'Me And Emily'.
It SHOULD have been a hit; heck, all three of those songs SHOULD have made the top 10.

Just My Luck, or any other release from her for that matter. I don't understand why she never broke through.

The other two were good songs, but did not stand out enough to be guaranteed Top 10's.

I completely agree that all three of Rachel's songs should have been MAJOR hits. And if she had released "If This Chair Could Talk" that should have been a hit too. Too bad she was dropped; I bought that album the day it came out and it is amazing. I encourage everyone out there to go buy it too.

I couldnt agree more with you guys on Me & Emily and ESPECIALLY Didn't I. I agree that that was one of the best songs of that yr. However, after seeing her in concert at least a yr before her album came out, I must say I was quite disappointed with it. Although I, as well, liked If This Chair Could Talk".

That CD is exceptional; another song which I absolutely love is 'Shame On You', which would sound GREAT on the radio these days, especially with summer five days away!!!!

How do we actually know it's Rachel? I just read it. What exactly where the singles from her album? Someone actually told me she had like 2 or 3 before M&E which all flopped, and yet one after. I listened to "Didn't I" at aolmusic and I love it. I got her album but I just never really listened to much of it.

Days Like This, Didn't I, Me & Emily and Where I Belong in that order were the singles released from a drab album.
To find out if it's Rachel, just ask on the board which one she is. I can't recall off the top of my head and I hate the CMT boards so I never check out for myself.
