Well since we just tried to survive the ACM Awards this week, I thought I would bring up the CMA's with my question focusing on the horizon award.
Gretchen got it last year so who do you think has a good chance this year?
My bet would be one of these three:
1) Sugarland 2) Jamie O'Neal 3) Dierks Bentley
Agree...disagree?

I don't think Jamie's going to win this.
Sugarland's got lots of buzz going on, and massive airplay lately. Their two singles combined had more airplay than the number one song on Billboard last week. They seem to be radio's new hot thing right now. The huge boosts from big stations would indicate to me they have lots of good PR going on with the right people. Does all that have a bearing with the CMA? I don't know, but it sure can't hurt.
Dierks almost seems like old news in comparison, but he's great and could still get it.

Actually Jame O'Neal was nominated already for the Horizon award in 2001. Dierks was nominated last year.
I think you could also add Miranda Lambert to the list of maybes. She hasn't had a big chart hit yet but did have a #1 album debut and got really good reviews from what I read.

Personally, I'd love to see Shelly Fairchild, but I'm sure she'll be overlooked.
Other possible nominees could be Blaine Larsen and Bobby Pinson. They've both had some good buzz, it seems.

I haven't heard anything from Shelly Fairchild, which it seems not a whole lot of people have. I would imagine that it's Sugarlands to lose no matter who is nominated. What is the criteria for this award?

I believe that you can only have released two albums... that is the only criteria I am sure of.

I was really impressed with Sugarland at the ACMs for filling in for George Strait? so my vote goes their way. They've released great singles.

I would go with Sugarland at this point, too. Hasn't Dierks already won it or was that the ACM new artist? I tend to get them confused at times.

Lauren Lucas has the talent and music - the deadline would be tight for her right now, but in time...

Well I though Julie Roberts was a shoe-in for Horizon award last January when she first debuted....but then Gretchen came out of nowhere and completely overshadowed her.
With that said, I think Sugarland is the shoe-in to win...but I guess a lot can change between now and then. I could see Big and Rich possibly getting nominated again...but other than that, I don't see any competition at this point.

I can't see Lauren or Keith getting a nod at all. Lauren's singles haven't done ANYTHING and I don't see them doing so either. I would think Sugarland would walk away with this unless we have another situation like we did last yr with Julie and Gretchen like Wake Up Older mentioned.
