Last night, my best friend and I went to see Sugarland in concert. There was LOTS of standing, but let's just say it was worth it.
Doors at the venue opened at 630 and my friend and I got there at 515. There weren't many in line then and it was all general admission, so I knew we were going to get a good spot. Well, it was a GREAT spot actually because on the dance floor part of the venue, there are NO seats....it's ALL standing.
The opening act was your typical crappy cover band that seemed like they were NEVER going to end, but when they did, it was great. Then it seemed like an ETERNITY before Sugarland actually got out there, but as I previously mentioned, that wait sure paid off.
Sugarland got on the stage close to 9 I wanna say, but I could be off on that....that's besides the pt anyway, because as soon as they came on stage, time froze.
We were about 3-4 ft. from the stage the entire time. They played for a little over an hr and it was GREAT to hear them sing some new songs and some really fun ones too. Actually, the only song they didn't sing from their album was Stand Back Up. Something More was the last song of the original set and I couldn't believe the amount of people that were singing along to it. After that, they got off the stage only to come back shortly thereafter to sing Baby Girl as their encore. That song had EVERYONE singing along.
Jennifer looked DAMN good. Kristen was great I thought, and Kristian was MIA because Jennifer announced to us that his wife was having a baby. No news by the end of the show as to if the baby was born or not.
Anyways, to the good stuff. Jennifer announced that they would be signing autographs after the show and I thought that was GREAT considering as big as they are right now how huge they will be next time. The tour manager was a complete @ss (like most of them are) and told everyone 1 autograph only and NO pics. Well just before my friend and I got up to Jennifer I noticed a flash go off and I was wondering what was going on. I got up to Jennifer, shook her hand, told her how great they are and had her sign my book. I'm guessing since she saw my digital camera that she knew I wanted a picture. She said if you want a picture, go ahead. I thought that was so awesome of her to do. I had also noticed the absence of Kristen and so I asked Jennifer where she was and she told me that she was back packing. I then thanked her and left. I assumed she was talking about packing stuff in the tour bus. I saw before the concert that the bus was behind the venue. When my friend and I were leaving I told him: "Let's go back by where the bus is to see what's going on over there". I thought that there would have been a SLIGHT chance that I would have been able to catch Kristen. Luckily (and to my surprise), when we got to the area the bus was at, there was no sign of security anywhere and the door to the bus was wide open. I waited for a bit to find someone I could ask to see where Kristen was. The one I was able to ask didn't know. Next thing I knew, one of the band members was out of the bus smoking. I stood there quiet for a second and then he and I started talking. It was great talking to someone in the band to get their view on what the bands success has been like and we talked for a good 10-15 mins. (If you ever go to a Sugarland concert, look up band member Dave). He was one of the nicest people I have met and I think he enjoyed chatting with me as much as I enjoyed chatting with him because not being part of the trio, he probably doesn't get as much attention as the 3 do. I then asked him about Kristen since I hadn't seen her (although I saw Jennifer get into the bus) and he informed me that she is just getting over bronchitis and went back to the hotel to rest. :'(
If anyone hasn't gone to a Sugarland concert, GO....you won't regret it. Their enthusiasm and stage presence are great and they have some of the nicest people out there.
I have a link to all of the pics I took, but for some reasone the whole link won't post correctly....maybe the url is too long or something.
Hope everyone enjoys the review as much as I enjoyed writing it. Let me know what you think.
P.S: LATE ADDITION: When I asked Jennifer about releasing (Just Might) Make Me Believe as a single she sounded like they were going for that as their 4th single and since it's summery they are going to go for Down in Mississippi (Up to No Good) for their 3rd. We will have to wait and see how that pans out.
