Christmas takeover begins!!!
It's a solid month at #1 for Katy Perry, but the song that many people have called it a clone of has made it's move. Taking advantage of the Christmas spin decreases, Sara Bareilles leaps 7-2 with "Brave." This gives Sara her 2nd top 5 AC hit. Her other was her #1 smash "Love Song." Can Sara take advantage and sneak in next week, or will she have to wait until the new year? Meanwhile it looks as though Maroon 5 now have 4 straight #2 hits on AC.
Newcomer Lorde moves into the top 10 this week with "Royals." The #1 Hot 100 smash is the 16-year old's first top 10 on AC.
Passenger moves 21-19 this week with "Let Her Go." The debut AC hit from the one-man band becomes his first top 20 as well.
Moving 22-20 is the latest from OneRepublic. "Counting Stars" becomes the latest hit for their top 20 count. This is top 20 hit #6 for Ryan and the boys. Their last top 20 was "Good Life" which peaked at #2 in February 2012.
Alright, it's the moment we've been waiting for. The CHRISTMAS INVASION! And in 2 months we'll await the CHRISTMAS CLEAROUT, but that's for later. We have FIVE debuts this week, 4 of which are Christmas. We start off at #21 with Kelly Clarkson, who is on target to become 2013 Christmas Queen. Her Holiday original "Underneath The Tree has the highest debut of the week. This is Kelly's 18th AC hit. Her last hit was "People Like Us" which peaked at #17 back in August.
It's time for an AC LEGEND to make his return. Ladies and gentlemen, the legendary JOHNNY MATHIS has a hit this week! The 78-year old crooner is one of the last living legends from the pre-AC days and among those we hear regularly during this time of year. "Sending You A Little Chrisrtmas" also includes some help from AC modern legend Jim Brickman. Brickman took the song to the top in 2004 with Kristy Starling on vocals. The song debuts at #27 this week, giving Mathis his highest charting AC hit in 25 years!!!
This is Mathis' 50th AC hit. He becomes only the 6th artist in AC history to reach 50 hits. He is now in a tie with Barry Manilow for 4th place among solo male acts for most AC hits. The only other males ahead of him are Elton John, Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley. Mathis' last AC hit was his rendition of "Frosty the Snowman" which peaned at #29 back in 2003.
For Jim Brickman this is his 30th AC hit. He has had at least 1 appearance on the AC chart every year since 1996! Earlier this year he paked at #3 with "Good Morning Beautiful" a collaboration with Luke McMaster.
Our next Christmas entry comes from the most likely AC Wannabe of 2013, Whitney Wolanin. Last year Whitney did well with her rendition of "Frosty the Snowman" and this year she takes on another classic, "Run Run Rudolph." This is Whitney's 4th AC hit. She peaked at #17 back in July with "Wrong Guy (I Did It This Time)."
Debut #4 comes from the queen of hip-hop soul Mary J. Blige. Mary's AC history is quite brief, but she has 3 decades of smashes on the R&B chart. "This Christmas" is the first single off her first Christmas album "A Mary Christmas" and enters at #29 this week. This is only Mary's 2nd top 30 on the AC chart and 3rd AC hit overall. Her biggest hit was "The Living Proof" which peaked at #27 back in November 2011.
Finally, we close off with a non-Christmas debut/ It's the latest smash from Katy perry, meaning Katy sandwiches the chart this week as Roar has the #1 song! "Unconditionally" is the 2nd single off her album "Prism" and debuts at #30 this week. This is Katy's lucky 13th AC hit.
Of the 5 droppers this week, 2 of them are recurrents. They are The Lumineers and Florida-Georgia Line. The Lumineers were the longest running song at 45 weeks. The new title belongs to Bruno Mars who is in his 39th week with "When I Was Your Man." As a result of the recurrents we have new peaks for Lorde, Taylor Swift, Capital Cities, Michael Buble, Paul McCartney, Passenger, OneRepublic and Lady Gaga.
