My favorites: when the party’s over, Sunflower, Better, If I Can’t Have You, Truth Hurts, Bury a Friend, Shallow, Beautiful Crazy, Middle Child, Dancing With a Stranger, A Lot, Circles, Bad Guy, Pop Out
Least favorites: Break Up With Your Girlfriend, Without Me, 7 Rings, Money, Hey Look Ma I Made It, Someone You Loved, Taki Taki
Bonus: songs that I liked that should have been hits Even Though I’m Leaving, Motivation, BLOW, Light On, Boy With Luv, On My Way to You, Calma, Only the Lonely Survive (really anything from Phantoms), The Archer, Take What You Want, Heartache Medication, Ocean Eyes
And songs that I’m glad weren’t hits: Earth (worst song of the year), Robbery, Cool, Nightmare, Who Do You Love, Lalala, Post Malone, Someone I Used to Know (somehow the best song on The Owl), Here With Me, Take it From Me

Any biggest impact of the decade list would need to include Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, and Sail by AWOLNATION.
I'm actually holding a survey on another site, where you can select what you think are the best songs of the decade, year by year. I've got 2010 thru 2012 in place and so far the top songs selected are:
2010: Raise Your Glass / Need You Now / Love The Way You Lie / Just The Way You Are / Bulletproof 2011: Rolling In the Deep / Pumped Up Kicks / Someone Like You / F*** You (Forget You) / Paradise 2012 : Somebody That I Used To Know / Some Nights / Set Fire To The Rain / We Are Young / Skyfall
You can all vote by clicking the link in my signature, which has links to the other years.

Why does everyone dislike Without Me? I don't love it but it's a perfectly listenable, serviceable pop song.

Why does everyone dislike Without Me? I don't love it but it's a perfectly listenable, serviceable pop song. Maybe it's because the production and vocals are extremely grating. Also, the song is literally about a breakup. So like......

It sounded terrible the first time I heard it, and after hearing it 1,000 times since, it’s hard to think of another song as grating as Without Me

Decade Defining Songs of the 2010s - these aren't the biggest or most successful songs, more of the most iconic (one song per artist to avoid representation by artists with multiple iconic songs [Drake, Adele, Bieber, etc.]): Adele: Rolling in the Deep Ariana Grande: thank u, next Avicii - Wake Me Up! Ok posting year end lists is inevitable i guess but can we not spend a bunch of posts arguing about Without Me or other songs? Especially when it's devolved to the point of just talking about how other people are "whining"

Maybe also Cruise by FGL since that opened the floodgates for brocountry for the upcoming years I would probably remove Sorry and What Makes You Beautiful, sure they were big, but I don’t think they influenced a large amount of music. I would also probably add Trap Queen to the list Sorry is on the list because even though Bieber had made comebacks with What Do You Mean and Where are U Now, Sorry was the redemption for him and the public, and thus I feel it's the most iconic of the Purpose era. What Makes You Beautiful was One Direction's biggest song, and if not for them, the new batch of boy bands and girl groups may not have received the success they got. Plus, since all five members have gone on to have moderate success as solo artists, people will still remember they were once part of One Direction, and remember that song. I actually feel like Trap Queen and Cruise fit the mold more of 'big at the time but haven't influenced a large amount of music'. Maybe Cruise but bro-country actually didn't have that long a lifespan, at the very least it lasted until 2013-2015.

Again not the most popular (why Maroon 5 and Rihanna aren't here), but when people think which artists made the 2010s, I think these 20 are the most representative: Calvin Harris
Don't sleep on Rihanna, she is def one of the most influential of the decade. She was on that mainstream edm wave before a lot of people with David Guetta and calvin Harris. Then in 2016, she brought carribean ish music to the table and everyone was on board, including sheeran and his biggest hit shape of you Rihanna could've made the list with We Found Love since it did make famous Calvin Harris who helped the electronic music scene but I decided to go with Avicii and 'Wake Me Up' since I think house music and very festival friendly electronic dance was more emblematic of the 2010s (Lean On also very nearly made the list because of that reason, it was neck and neck). But aside from We Found Love and maybe Diamonds, I don't really see any of Rihanna's hits having much longevity, I've barely heard Work since 2016. and in terms of the tropical sound/Caribbean sound of pop, I'd argue Drake and Justin Bieber were the ones that made it popular.

See, that’s where you’re wrong. It’s not listenable. It sounded terrible the first time I heard it, and after hearing it 1,000 times since, it’s hard to think of another song as grating as Without Me How tho. Her voice ain't the best but the production is nice and watery, the melodies are nice. Idgi Okay so I fully realize that this is just differences in taste (which is completely fine), but for me at least, I would say it sounds damp, dreary and sludgy. The tempo is way too sluggish. The vocal production is atrocious and makes her sound like a petulant child (not helped by the lyrics). At least that’s how it sounds to me.

Why does everyone dislike Without Me? I don't love it but it's a perfectly listenable, serviceable pop song. I mean looking at the year-end list so far, it is at least listenable...but is listenable our base marker for quality? Especially since all the usual Halsey problems are still there. Colorless, dreary instrumentation with sluggish atmosphere and tempo, a lack of distinct vocal personality with terrible vocal production and autotune that strips even more character, whiny, insufferable lyrics about a breakup where both parties end up looking uglier by the end. She's basically a female Juice WRLD and this song is her 'Lucid Dreams'.

Rihanna? To be fair, all of those songs could've made the list if I extended it up to 40. Most will definitely become karaoke/cover staples but I wasn't just thinking about what were easiest songs to sing. Radioactive had the best chance of making it on but the recent backlash towards Imagine Dragons prevented it.

Boyfriend will be kicked out of Kworb's radio estimate charts as early as two days. I expect it to leave the Hot 100 proper in around two weeks.
Unless the song scrapes the bottom of the charts for the last 5 weeks, its chances of making the 2019 year end list are pretty much screwed.

I hope Boyfriend does miss cause then that leaves more of a chance for On Chill or maybe even the slight chance for Good As Hell.

ok i don't want to say anything definitive right now or put too much pressure on him, but it seems like a lot of the currently charting songs (e.g. My Type, Cash Shit, Only Human, Baby, Circles) are way too low on rimetm's predictions compared to where they should be

If we're going to remember this decade with a music video that one is going to be a top 5 for sure. + all the buzz, gossip magazines, talk shows, youtube channels, news were talking about it (bad or good), + iconic VMA performance, she was the IT girl and Wrecking Ball will be remembered as an ICONIC song from the 10's. (even if i don't like it so much...)

Decade Defining Songs of the 2010s - these aren't the biggest or most successful songs, more of the most iconic (one song per artist to avoid representation by artists with multiple iconic songs [Drake, Adele, Bieber, etc.]): There's nothing more iconic and pop culture moment in 2013 that Miley Cyrus in Wrecking Ball. (even if i don't like it so much...) Consider it the honorary #26 then, since it was the top 25 songs of the decade.

ok i don't want to say anything definitive right now or put too much pressure on him, but it seems like a lot of the currently charting songs (e.g. My Type, Cash s**t, Only Human, Baby, Circles) are way too low on rimetm's predictions compared to where they should be They were higher, then I realized that it’s not just the top 10 that’s weak right now in terms of points, it’s pretty much the whole top 80 or so. The curve the predictions usually follow assumes an average level of performance, but that dropped off in the waning weeks of OTR’s reign.

Carly Rae Jepsen: Call Me Maybe Drake: Hotline Bling Ed Sheeran: Shape of You Gotye: Somebody that I Used to Know Katy Perry: Firework Kendrick Lamar: HUMBLE. Kesha: Tik Tok Justin Bieber: Sorry Lil Nas X: Old Town Road LMFAO: Party Rock Anthem Lorde: Royals Luis Fonsi: Despacito Mark Ronson: Uptown Funk! One Direction: What Makes You Beautiful Pharell Williams: Happy PSY: Gangnam Style Taylor Swift: Shake It Off The Chainsmokers: Closer The Weeknd: The Hills Travis Scott: SICKO MODE twenty one pilots: Stressed Out Wiz Khalifa: See You Again as for artists, these are the big personalities and characters that shaped the decade. Again not the most popular (why Maroon 5 and Rihanna aren't here), but when people think which artists made the 2010s, I think these 20 are the most representative: Adele Ariana Grande Billie Eilish Bruno Mars Calvin Harris Drake Ed Sheeran Katy Perry Kendrick Lamar Kesha Justin Bieber Lorde Nicki Minaj One Direction Post Malone Sia Taylor Swift The Weeknd Travis Scott twenty one pilots There's nothing more iconic and pop culture moment in 2013 that Miley Cyrus in Wrecking Ball. (even if i don't like it so much...) It was definitely one of the biggest at the time. But in terms of decade defining, and what people remember in the future, I would be less sure. Miley's career fell off a cliff immediately afterwards, she's not exactly a classic act that demands one of the top slots for the decade. And Wrecking Ball wasn't really big/don't remembered enough to warrant a place outside of that, like a "Somebody that I used to know" or "Get lucky"

If the charts really are weaker at the current moment (and the past few months), that could spell doom to songs like On Chill, Lover, Ballin' & Good As Hell.

NOTES -Four new entries are possible next week. Boyfriend currently sits at #102, it just needs to stay on the hot 100 next week and it'll pass Girls Need Love but even still it's looking like a bad bet to make the year end list. -Sucker should make the top 10 next week. After that we just gotta sit and watch the progression of Truth Hurts. -YNTCD is basically a lock to pass Me and become the highest song off Lover this year -This will be the last week of Never Really Over in the top 100 songs of the year. All I can do is express my immeasurable disappointment towards the American public.
There's always a possibility that they could fudge the results to get different songs on the list- I wouldn't be surprised if EARFQUAKE and/or Never Really Over show up on the list, since they've had a longer shelf life than Scotty McCreery or Brett Young
