I loved Shut Up and Drive and I bought her early stuff, but I'm done with Chely. Someone else can support her. I didn't care for the promotion gambit for SUV, and she's responsible for that whether she admits it or not, so she can live without my fifteen bucks.

Whoa there. Even though she was not responsible for that, she DID take responsiblity because she is a classy person who understand that the buck stops with her even though it was engineered by her fan club manager. And even if there was a shady promotional campaign, the song was true and is wonderful piece of art that got unfairly shafted by radio because she is: 1. independent 2. female 3. writing a song that is not obnoxiously pro-war and actually has a meaning
I would definitely encourage you to give her another chance. She took full responsibility for this incident even though she did not have to.

I don't smoke. I wouldn't hold Tim McGraw responsible for the activities of his wildest fans, because there are a lot of them, but Chely's world is a lot smaller and I find it hard to believe she wasn't aware of what was going on. Of course, I wasn't there and I don't really know.
I don't like the SUV song's lyrics, but in general I don't like political music. There's an irony in the narrator of this song not wanting to be judged based on a bumper sticker -- so far so good -- but then being willing to jump to conclusions about someone having kids in a "private school" based on driving a mini-van. Bad lyrics.
On the other hand, it's only one song, and mbgriffith is eloquent, so maybe I'll slow down and give her another shot. Shut Up and Drive and It Was and... OK, one of these days, I'll do it.

I think you should give her another shot. This new album is awesome and clearly her best work.
I love the song 'The River' and I'm glad the video is being played on the video channels (even making GAC's Top 20).
I had hoped to hear 'I Got Him Ready For You' on the radio, but I kinda get the feeling they may be done with the album after 'The River' is done on the video channels. Opening sales were good, but I think they have slipped.
I love every song on this album EXCEPT 'Bumper of my SUV' and recommend it to anyone who wants a great CD.

Austin, may I ask why you don't like that song? I thought it was a great story and the fact that she has supported the troops for so long and that her family has been involved for years with the military, it came off as extremely genuine (unlike someone's horrible song about kickin' *** redneck style just to make a buck... not naming names)

(Come Home Soon and Letters From Home are probably the only exceptions). That said, 'Bumper' is not a BAD song and it is very heartfelt, I just think the other 11 tracks are great while that one is just sorta OK. :) .

"Bumper..." is a very manipulative song. I think as far as patriotic songs go, it's one the worst I've ever heard. Chely's world is much smaller. Her FC Pres. is her best friend. I also believe she knew about it. It's known in Nashville well how much Chely uses her Fan Club. She's not underated, just generally not respected. I don't think her sales not taking off have to do with her being underrated.
