Last year, for the Dec. 19-25 period, these were some Mediabase numbers for a handful of tracks. This year, we've been getting regular updates for "Rockin' Around...," "Holly Jolly," "Jingle Bell..." and "The Christmas Song," so that's nice):
MARIAH CAREY – All I Want For Christmas Is…: 63.544m (+ 4.863m) JOHN LENNON – Happy Xmas/War Is Over: 35.672m (+ 1.883m) WHITNEY HOUSTON – Do You Hear What I Hear: 20.645m MADONNA – Santa Baby: 14.406m BRITNEY SPEARS – My Only Wish (This Year): 3.716m (+ 1.109m)

Not sure what's been the normal trajectory.

Last year, on the Dec. 8 update, "All I Want..." was at 35.243m. So, it should end up in the neighborhood of where it got last year.

"Saturday" doesn't have all that many views (had 3.7m worldwide as of earlier today). Or maybe are you joshin'.

I think it would be great if a bunch of Xmas songs took over the Top 40 and knocked so many other songs off. Back in the day Xmas music actually made big dents on the charts but no one seems to buy the stuff anymore. So with streaming , hopefully it can make an impact. Would be awesome if Mariah carey jumped into #1 and kept The Monster out.

The only holiday song that topped the Hot 100 was, what, "The Chipmunk Song"? Of course, holiday songs weren't eligible for the Hot 100 for a number of years.
"White Christmas," of course, was huge in the pre-Hot 100 era.
If AIWFCIY was released commercially in 1994, it probably would have had a shot at No. 1, based on Mimi's chart run at the time.

^I think it was just a nickname, and it became more public when she released the 2005 album.
2m- though it's possible "Little Drummer Boy" will be No. 1 on this coming week's Holiday 100, AIWFCIY probably will be on top again before the season ends.

I really hope The Monster doesn't go #1. I adore Love the Way You Lie but I think this one is such a cheap knockoff. And I don't want them releasing this same duet ten more times and getting easy #1s off of their names alone for years to come.

The only holiday song that topped the Hot 100 was, what, "The Chipmunk Song"? Of course, holiday songs weren't eligible for the Hot 100 for a number of years. "The Chipmunk Song", from 1958, is indeed the only actual Christmas song to top the Hot 100.

Pop radio has hugely improved this year! There's not much generic music doing well anymore.

^I'd classify at least a few in that in that top 10 as generic.

^I'd classify at least a few in that in that top 10 as generic. Yeah, but not as much as in 2011 when there were all those songs like Give Me Everything, On the Floor, Party Rock Anthem, etc. I thought it would never end.

Regarding the mediabase list above:
What is a "well performed song"?

^I'd classify at least a few in that in that top 10 as generic. Only Mirrors and Daylight, right?

^Kinda on the fence about "Mirrors," as it does sound like past Timberlake material, but not the dance/pop that overtook radio. I was thinking "Don't You Worry Child" (which I like, but it fits right in with the dance/pop of the last few years).

Because it's "classified" as dance/pop doesn't make it generic though. I'm one of the few that still hope a few EDM tracks break through.

Am I a loser for getting nostalgic this time of every year when all the music outlets compile their year-end lists :/
