This week, Imagine Dragons finally snags their first number one hit with "Demons". Look for the song to probably finish the year at the top assuming Rick starts with the special countdowns next week. Passenger looks to score their first number one hit after the new year with "Let Her Go", up to #3 this week. And still don't count out OneRepublic yet.
After three minor hits, Fitz & The Tantrums finally scores their breakout hit as their latest hit "Out Of My League" leaps up 7 spots to #14. The song certainly has an 80's retro vibe to it, channeling groups like General Public (I think the lead singer wears a shirt like one the General Public singers did in their videos in the 80's, in the "Out Of My League" video. ). Hopefully we will see this song and "Sweater Weather" in the top 10 soon.
Paramore seems to be in a big hurry to leave the chart with back-to-back big drops, falling from #11 to #37 in just two weeks. Hopefully Haley's hit with Zedd, "Stay The Night" will debut on Rick's chart soon.
While we're still on the subject of the 80's, not only have songs named "Stay The Night" charted in the 80's and/or early 90's (songs by the Car's Benjamin Orr, and Chicago), Christina Perri returns to the chart this week with her latest song "Human". While nothing to do with the big hit by the Human League of the same name in 1986, she does have one of several ballads that have hit the chart in recent week's, including this week's highest debut by Colbie Caillat, with "Hold On". Wait for it....Wilson Phillips scored a number one hit with a song of the same name back in 1990! Interesting!
We also have a very retro sound Sure Shot this week by Lady Gaga and R. Kelly with "Do What You Want", a song that could've been done by Nu Shooz back in 1986 (okay, I listen to too much 80's music, I know! ). Anyway, this may be the final weekly chart of the year, but we will find out next week if Rick breaks out the Christmas tunes, followed by most likely his "hybrid" year-end chart the week after.
