I'm really not a fan of the type of music she records now, but she seems to have finally accepted her "new" voice. It sounds healthy, and she's much smarter with what she does with it.

Maria, Twice, Fall In Line, Like I Do, the whole album is good
I've even grown to like Accelerate somehow

"Liberation" was her only album that didn't connect with me. I loved "Deserve", "Like I Do", "Accelerate", and "Pipe", but was largely underwhelmed with the rest of it. "Twice" felt like her attempt at becoming Johnny Cash. The other stuff felt like it would've been B-sides during her heyday.
Also saw her tour, and it was on the verge of embarrassing. She was out of breath from walking around, and ultimately sat on the steps for a prolonged period of time, singing and chugging water. I get that we're all older than when she first stepped out on the scene, but this was truly the first era where I was almost completely disinterested. Really hoping she comes back with quality next time.

I think they're spot-on about several of these. In particular, her stance on LGBTQ rights and on feminism both stand out as having been forging ahead of public perception. She certainly charged ahead when many others weren't, and when I'm sure it wasn't necessarily expedient to do so. I appreciate her risk-taking so much. Christina's always going to be a controversial star, but it's these things that absolutely make me proud to have been a stan over the past few decades. Simply put, Christina has always been iconic.  |
