“Slow Down Baby” was the original second single but RCA wanted a ballad as the second single. It ended up being her biggest hit in Europe to date. But wasn’t as big in the US. Crazy! Hurt is just so depressing to me. |

I thought Christina wanted "Candyman" to be the second single. I think you're right. I remember an interview at the time (with Linda?) and Christina wanting Candyman 2nd and mentioned how the label wanted the boring upbeat/ballad combo. And I also remember them specifically saying they wanted the second single to be from disc 2. |

Wow. She really served up a delicious little EP, didn't she?! Okay Latinxtina!
My mother called me to tell me that "Santo" is all over La Mega, one of the largest Latin music radio stations in New York City. I love that for Christina - and that my lil' ol' mami called me excited for me to know it.

I think the EP is strong! Only song I think is filler is "Como Yo". Definitely agree that "Santo" would've been a stronger first single, but knowing her and her feelings about female empowerment, not at all surprised - or upset - that "Pa Mis Muchachas" was first.
I actually love this sound for her and am wondering if she'll carry it over into English music? I'd love to hear her collaborate with Bad Bunny, Rosalia, Karol G, J Balvin, and Aventura, among others. I think a song with Romeo Santos where she restrains her voice a la "Say Something" could be stunning.

Do we know how this did its first week? 4K units - 2K actual sales + 2K streaming equivalent (= to 2.9 million US streams) Obviously expectations were not high at all for this, and I doubt she honestly even cares at this point, but I really feel like she has burned a lot of bridges outside of her core base. And it appears not even her core fanbase bothered with this one. |

That’s not true at all. She didn’t do any promo for this at all outside of a music video during the release week plus there’s 2 more EP’s to come. Her team is taking the “slow burner” approach to these projects. Also, this is likely setting her up to tour internationally since the US was not the target audience for this.

Expectations were low but missing the BB200 entirely is not taking the "slow burn" approach.
Reminds me a bit of Miley planning three EPs and scrapping that when the first one "only" went top 5.

If you're an artist that is going to garner a lot of streams, sales, etc. from each EP then it's one thing, but for Christina, and given that each EP is gonna do 4K units first week, might as well just save it and do one album. |

I'm a fan of multiple pre-release singles. The prerelease EPs thing hasn't been done well by a mainstream act though, at least commercially, it has never yielded strong results.

Christina put out a great Spanish EP this year but it had no promotion at all and it didn't have much buzz outside of those us who like Christina's music. There is still 2 more EPs to come,I'm sure Christina's team is planning more promotion for the remaining EPs.

I understand this argument, however there is another side to it for a person that is in her situation. Build up whatever hype you can, maybe get some tracks to chart throughout the way. I don't know enough about Billboard's current rules, but could they feasibly not take the streams from EPs and apply them to the final full album when it drops? Sam Smith basically did this by releasing singles that weren't attached to a specific album leading up to a full album release. Not sure how that works between someone releasing EPs vs LPs. If anyone has insight I'd love to hear it! |
