And so this concludes the calendar year of the charts. Kelly Clarkson ends the year on a high note, not only keeping #1, but also holding #5 and #9. Kelly now has 9 top 5 hits to her name. There are no to 10 entries this week.
Passenger re-enters the top 20 with Let Her Go.
Only 2 debuts this week, and only 1 of them is Christmas. Debuting at #27 is a trio once dubbed as "The Italian Jonas Brothers." While their music styles are miles apart, their popularity in Italy is as strong as the Jonas' were in their heyday. Meet Il Volo, a trio of "popera" stars, Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble. The trio are between the age of 18 and 20, but theit sryle would have you think otherwise. Their rendition of "Oh Holy Night" debuts at #27. This is the trio's first AC hit.
Closing off the chart for 2013 is another newbie to ACLand. Meet the Brooklyn band American Authors. Their crossover single "Best Day of My Life" has been featured in commercials for Lowe's and MLB's Fan Cave. The song is also being used in the film "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." "Best Day of My Life" enters at #30 and is the band's first AC hit.
The only recurrent this week is "Love Somebody." As a result, we have new peaks for Leona Lewis, Heart/Richard Marx, Susan Boyle (IBIFC), and Celtic Thunder.
Next week will mark the final full week of Christmas songs on the chart. Who will survive with a half week of Christmas play? Which new hits will we gain as a result, and which songs that just won't die will be reborn? Stay tuned!!
