This is the latest single from Rudimental's highly successful debut. While it failed to go top twenty in the UK, it's currently top ten on iTunes in Australia.
It's a nice little song. Emeli is also featured on another album track- "More Than Anything"- which I prefer over this. [Both are more interesting than anything on her own album bar "Heaven" imo].
Still worth the listen though!

I was surprised when I saw this top 10 in Australia!
A really great song imo. Everything Rudimental do seems to be amazing. :)

I love Emeli's voice. It's a good song and I think it has the potential to grow on me further.

Would I be crazy if I wanted to see this released Stateside?

Just noticed that this has outpeaked "Waiting All Night" in Australia :o I think it's mainly due to timing, as "Free" is peaking during the slow release period of December-January, while "Waiting All Night" was around some of the biggest hits of the year (it peaked behind "Blurred Lines", "Get Lucky", "Let Her Go", "Pompeii" and "Resolution", and while The Voice was on). I expect sales then were much higher too. I'm still very surprised too though! I expected it to do absolutely nothing here after peaking at #26 in the UK, and the previous single being only a minor hit here (with X Factor to thank for that). It's also Emeli Sandé's joint highest charter alongside "Beneath Your Beautiful".

I also think "Waiting All Night" has a very English sound, much more so than their other singles. "Free" on the other hand sounds more like a great song that could be from anywhere, and in particular has a low key/carefree feel to it that I could see suiting the Australian scene quite well. (What do I know though? lol)

Only 0.2% from #2 on iTunes Australia :o "Swing" is at 56% combined, but still! Edit: never mind, with a proper non-??? update it's 0.57% behind now

I hope this can find some way to crossover to CHR, because I think this song is amazing & I think it would do pretty well. <3
