Plus choruses that start with the title repeated like usually don't make sustainable impact. Rihanna herself is a notable example of making it work. Agreed. However, not only is it Rihanna (and she's bound to turn anything catchy) but also in "We Found Love", the chorus is this mix between the "We found love in a hopeless place" repeated 4 times (which is sort of the pre-chorus/hook) catchy on its own + the instrumental dance part courtesy of Calvin Harris which clearly didn't require singing over. (they had to add the "na-na-na come on..." in S&M) This sounds like the verses will be more fun than the chorus unless what comes after the "I can't remember to forget you" is amazing. I am hoping that's the case because I do want Shakira to go back to the top. Maybe Rihanna's part is slaying. Maybe she's singing the second half of the chorus (very unlikely). We'll see.

Why would it sound "revolutionary"? It's Shakira and Rihanna, not Bjork and PJ Harvey.

The demo theory might make sense. I don't hear Rihanna in the clip at all, although it could just be an odd duet structure. Doesn't sound as described either.
Hope that's the case.

Why would it sound "revolutionary"? It's Shakira and Rihanna, not Bjork and PJ Harvey. Probably because I've got this great greed for fresh records :) And actually both Rihanna and Shakira have been experimenting within different genres with twists. Say Pon de Replay, Umbrella, We Found Love and Diamonds for instance were all hits but they were all distinct enough and fresh. Same thing with Whenever Wherever, La Tortura, Hips Don't Lie, She Wolf.... Like it has been said above, this sounds (so far) like a rehash of 2011 Maroon 5. That guitar riff... Also, I expected more from John Hill who came up with the instrumentals for Shakira's "Gordita" or "Waka Waka" and then went out and did Pink's "All We All We Are"..

I used to be a huge Shakira fan, but lately her music has not been exciting me at all. I would love to fall in love with her again, but these clips are pretty boring. Sounds like a mesh of some of her more boring songs and a little M5 thrown in for good measure. Hopefully the clips do not show the entire picture. I can see radio playing it even if the song is boring though.

Really excited to hear this. The clip sounds fun. Standard Shakira sonically, which isn't a bad thing, and Rihanna's part should be interesting.

I was initially surprised when I heard the snippet, but that's only because the song did not match what i was expecting from them. I should have known better. In retrospect, this is typical Shakira. She went from her MTV Unplugged to Whenever Whenever, from Whenever Whenever to La Tortura, from La Tortura to Don't Bother, from Don't Bother to She Wolf, then She Wolf to Loca. Every single initial Shakira lead single has been vastly different from the last. Shakira loves to surprise us. She's taking a risk with this song. I hope it pays off. Here are all her lead singles. Compare the sound of the singles. None of them sound similar. 1995 Estoy Aqui ( English Version) 1998 Ciega Sordomuda2000 MTV Unplugged - No Creo2001 Whenever Wherever2005 La Tortura2005 Don't Bother2009 She Wolf2010 Loca2014 Can't Remember To Forget You ..and we wait for the premiere of her new single: She took a bit of a risk with "She Wolf", so I'm not surprised by her taking risks with her lead singles. The remix of "La Tortura" SLAYED MY LIFE.

Playing on KIIS right now Why does it sound like Lawson's "Juliet"? I think it's ok, should do well.

It is amazing indeed. Sounds too summery for January, but I won't complain since it is summer over here

I like it but sounds kinda dated to me. I expected something way hotter than this, tbh.

The important thing is that... this is NOT generic!

Rihanna sounds noticeably better than Shakira on this. Seems to be a reoccurring theme.

It's nothing mind-blowing but I really like it, it does sound summery indeed. I love the pop/rock and reggae elements in the song's production. Both sound amazing and I actually feel like Rihanna's voice is an excellent counterpart to Shakira's.

I like it. Don't love it, don't hate it. Doesn't feel like much of a duet either since Rihanna's addition seems very unnecessary, although that's partly because you never hear them sing together, really. Production is standard fair, but it suits Shakira really well. Not used to hearing Rihanna's voice this clearly, so her parts might grow on me.
This is messier than 'Beautiful Liar' by a long shot, as far as the "duet" thing goes-- but it's not so terrible that it couldn't be a hit in the long run.

I like it. This fits Rihanna perfectly. She definitely enhances the song.
