'The Beach Boys' Would Enjoy Working With Phenom Bruno Mars

Singer Mike Love of "The Beach Boys" said in an interview with Efethat the legendary Southern California rock group keeps up with the changing times and would love to work with a current phenomenon like Bruno Mars though they're triple his age.

"Mars is a great vocalist and dancer, he has those old-school influences that I think are so great," Love said, adding that he compares him to James Brown and that he was impressed by the Hawaiian's performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards where, on their 50th anniversary, The Beach Boys reappeared with their classical lineup. "

The client requested that I create a conceptual women's fragrance for pop star Bruno Mars. I am a big fan of Bruno's music and had a great time working on this project. I took inspiration from Bruno's hit song, "Treasure". x

Q: What is like working with artists who also have strong identities in their music?
MARK RONSON: Sometimes it’s really easy in the studio to forget that it supposed to be a collaboration. Then I have this ego like… I’m the producer, it supposed to be my idea, [but then I realise it’s really not the case.] Honestly, it happened a lot with Bruno… I was so impressed by him. I had an idea for a melody, or a guitar line, and he’d be like ‘’No, how about making it go like that?’’ My first instinct would be: ‘’NO!” …and then I’d be like: ”F#ck, you’re right.” When you work with people like Bruno or Paul McCartney, or whoever it is, They’re amazing songwriters. So their melody idea is gonna be better for whatever instrument it is for. And that’s where it’s great to be wrong…

[Q: What are your thoughts on electronic music?]
MARK RONSON: Me and him [Jeff Bhasker] did a lot for the Bruno album together and sometimes he seemed so computerized while producing music, and I had a little bit of that too, but I also have the oppoisite side when it takes hours in the studio to get the sound you were looking for… I think that’s what made the [Unorthodox Jukebox] sound unique. Even though we all had some massive arguments in the studio about certain things… it’s partly what made the record so exciting because we all did challenge one another.

Jason Harvey creates video content for Bruno Mars using Adobe Premiere Pro CC

For the past decade, Jason Harvey has lived the life that many video engineers would envy. After developing his skills and expertise in video production for corporate, trade, and live events, he landed a spot on with Cher on “The Farewell Tour.” Since then, he’s traveled with many high profile artists, including Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Paul McCartney, and Madonna, managing the video systems, cabling, and cameras involved in their massive concert productions.

Over the years, Harvey has been given some freedom that allows him to work with artists on playback and even create some content for the shows. For the past year and a half, he’s worked with PRG Nocturne as a video engineer on the Bruno Mars tour, while managing his production company Short and Spikey on the side.




The Bruno Mars show is 100% pre-made by a variety of content providers who work on different elements of the show before the tour begins. After a tour has been on the road for a while, it’s not uncommon for the artist to want to change or add content. When Bruno Mars recently decided to add some new elements to his show, Harvey was selected to create a new piece of content for the song “Show Me.”

“The project was made up of ink drops and shockwaves from Video Copilot,” explains Harvey. “I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC to track lay the images in time with the audio, and then exported the timeline to After Effects CC for all of the color correction, repositioning, and sizing.”

Harvey used bright colors for the drops and waves. The reference from the artist was the colors of red, yellow, and green to match the Rastafarian feel of the song. The colors were added to the drops and waves in After Effects CC to complete the look. After exporting and showing the content to Bruno Mars for approval, Harvey only had to make minor changes to the sizes of some objects before re-rending the project for the final master.

“I used Adobe Premiere Pro for 90% of the project and it played an essential role in getting all of the timing for the music correct,” says Harvey. “I was very lucky to have the opportunity to work with Bruno and his management on this content and it’s great to see it playing in the show every night!”

Q: What’s some of the best advice you’ve heard?

A: Someone told me something that stuck with me: “You have to envision your life, and then go backwards.” I’ve been living by that motto for a while, so I see where I need to be. Now I’m just backtracking and trying to get back up there.

A: You can’t knock on opportunity’s door and not be ready.

Q: What is success to you?

A: I think that success is having fun.

Q: Are there any tricks to writing?

A: I just write songs that I strongly believe in and that are coming from inside. There are no tricks. It’s honesty with big melodies.

Q: What’s been a struggle or heartbreak for you?

A: It’s probably the worst feeling in the world when you’re deeply and madly in love with a woman, and you know she’s not feeling you the same way, and you don’t
know why.

It seems Bruno gonna take longer breaks between albums. "Jukebox" has been released 2 years and 2 months after his debut. I personally don't believe we gonna get anything from him this year, or at the begining of 2015. The fact alone that he locked himself in the studio for 8 months to record UJ, and now he won't have any descent time in the studio till the late October speaks volumes on LP3 chances of being released anytime soon...
Unfortunately. 

My guess is that it might be released in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2015.
