My local radio station (WUSY 100.7 US101) announced that they received a letter from Trace Adkins that was sent to many radio stations (I'm assuming most monitored stations). In the letter Trace basically said that the song was causing a lot of controversy, mostly from families of soldiers in Iraq. They argued that the song gives a negative outlook while their family members are fighting overseas. Trace saw through their point of view and decided to no longer promote the song. The entire letter was read on-air and at the end Trace said that they would move on with a new single.
This is terrible! What a great song....I wondered why it started slipping. Oh well, it does say a lot about Trace. He has to be a respectful person to do such a thing with such an awesome song. As for the next single, I think they will (or at least should) go with "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk". It got quite a bit of airplay just before "Arlington" was released.

OMG! I had NO idea. How awesome is that? Almost brings a tear to my eye.
I also wondered why this song started slipping because, to me, it was a number one song. And it was going up there pretty fast. But really, HOW AWESOME is that for Trace to completely kill a song in the middle of it being hot!?
Makes me respect Trace 100%! What an awesome guy!

I can certainly his point of view, but 'Arlington' is easily among the two or three best singles of 2005, and as compelling as any song which has hit country radio is YEARS!!!!
I didn't realize that it was a 'controversial' song under any circumstances, but merely a wonderful song by an artist who epitomizes traditional country music as well as anyone, and that certainly includes Messrs. Jackson, Strait & Travis.
His exceptional CD has no shortage of potential new singles; if SHOULD be nominated for album of the year at the upcoming ACMs & CMAs.

Why can't people just accept someone trying to give honor to something without making it about something else? The song is not about Iraq, and while I understand how these families feel... what about the familes who HAVE soldiers buried there who are comforted and touched by this song?

I have a strange feeling that Honky Tonk Badonkadonk will be the next single. Its getting decent play already on Highway 16 XM.

Trace Adkins is talented but I really hope he does not stoop to the level of Honky Tonk Badonkacrap. That song is so awful... I think I want to throw up just thinking about it possibly being released. That is not country music, and frankly its only a step above Toby Keith and Ludacris collaborating on a big pile of crap. I have to think that country music legends of yesteryear would be turning over in their grave if they heard this song, "Drugs or Jesus," or "Mr. Mom." How has country music sunk so low? Its almost as if people are trying to insult it.

Well - not that I'm taking up for any of these songs, but our great Country legends gave us "Fist City" and "May The Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose". Country has always had the painful side to it - so has pop.
