www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.26938/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-1-5-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 1/5/2014 by Andres Tardio Beyonce drops to #2 on the charts this week, giving way to "Frozen's" official soundtrack to take over the #1 spot. Beyonce's reign at the top of the Top 200 Billboard chart has come to an end. The singer's self-titled album lands at #2 this week. Meanwhile, Eminem continues his stay at #3 and Drake moves up to the Top 15. Beyonce's Self-Titled Album Drops To #2 Beyonce's self-titled album has been reigning at #1 since it was released December 13, but that three-week streak has come to an end. In its fourth week of availability, Beyonce has dropped to #2, giving way to Frozen's original soundtrack to take over the #1 spot. This week, Beyonce sold 130,490 copies of the self-titled endeavor. Overall, this brings the album's total to 1,431,882 units sold. Last week, Beyonce sold 310,270 to land at #1. This week, Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 continues in the #3 spot, the same one it occupied a week ago. The album, which has been available for six weeks, debuted at #1 in its first week on the charts. This week, Eminem sold 54,722 units of the album, which has helped The Marshall Mathers LP's total sales figure reach 1,781,485 units sold. Last week, the album sold 122,092 copies and was also in the #3 spot on the chart. Eminem continues to have several albums on the chart. Recovery, for instance, sold 5,213 this week, helping it land at #83 with an overall sales total of 4,548,733. Curtain Call sold 4,670 to land at #101 this week. Its sales total has reached 3,813,216 copies sold. The Eminem Show, which is in the #103 with 4,570 units sold for the week, has reached a total sales figure of 10,308,107 units sold. Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP also continues to land on the charts, this week selling 3,920 units to land at #115 with 3,920 units. Overall, the album has sold 10,803,631 units. Drake's Nothing Was The Same, which was in the #16 spot last week, has improved one slot to land in the #14 spot this week. Nothing Was The Same sold 23,712 this week, which helped the album's overall sales figure reach 1,368,196 units sold. Last week, Nothing Was The Same sold 48,528 units. Drake's Take Care, which was released in 2011, also made it on the chart, landing at #175 with 3,594 units sold this week. Overall, Take Care has sold 2,109,814 units.

Eminem's album was released Nov. 5, so it's been available for longer than six weeks. Who's doing the copy at Hip Hop DX?

www.billboard.com/articles/news/5862606/frozen-soundtrack-storms-to-top-of-billboard-200'Frozen' Soundtrack Storms To Top Of Billboard 200 By Keith Caulfield, L.A. | January 08, 2014 "Frozen" is the fourth animated film soundtrack to reach No. 1 in the chart's 58-year history. The soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen" blows into the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200, selling 165,000 copies in the week ending Jan. 5, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It rises from No. 4 last week and earns a 55% gain in sales. "Frozen" marks the first soundtrack to reach No. 1 in a year, since "Les Misérables" rose to No. 1 on the Jan. 19, 2013, chart. (That chart reflected the sales week that ended Jan. 6, mirroring how this week's chart reflects the week ending Jan. 5, 2013.) "Frozen" bumps Beyoncé's self-titled album from the No. 1 position, down to No. 2 in its fourth chart week, with 130,000 (down 58%). "Beyoncé" spent its first three weeks at No. 1, and has now sold 1.43 million. This week, total sales for the album also surpass that of the diva's previous album, "4," which was released in 2011 and has sold 1.39 million. "Frozen" climbs to the top courtesy of the movie's continued strong showing at the box office, along with sale pricing for the set last week in the iTunes Store. The music-filled movie topped the U.S. and Canada box offices during the Jan. 3-5 weekend, and has earned $298 million, according to Box Office Mojo. It's currently the fourth-highest-grossing film released in 2013. The soundtrack has grown in sales every week since its debut at No. 18 on the Dec. 14, 2013, chart. Its cumulative sales have now passed the half-million mark, as its additional 165,000 this week bring its total to 503,000. "Frozen" is just the fourth animated film soundtrack to reach No. 1 since the Billboard 200 became a regularly published weekly chart in 1956. It follows Jack Johnson's "Curious George" (2006), and Disney's "Pocahontas" (1995) and "The Lion King" (1994). Few new albums were released last week, so there's very little action in terms of debuts on the Billboard 200 this week. The highest new entry is down at No. 58, where Jim Brickman's "The Magic of Christmas" bows with 6,000 (up 38%). The set isn't new to market, however, as it was released in October. The holiday effort appears on the list this week, with a gain, thanks to deep discounting at Target stores. (It's the only brick-and-mortar retailer to carry the CD.) Back in the top 10 this week: Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" holds at No. 3 with 55,000 (down 55%), Katy Perry's "PRISM" rises 5-4 with 51,000 (down 48%), and Lorde's "Pure Heroine" climbs 7-5 with 46,000 (down 40%). One Direction's "Midnight Memories" slides 2-6 with 45,000 (down 68%), and Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party" zips 14-7 with 43,000 (down a relatively mild 19%). OneRepublic's "Native" returns to the top 10 for the first time since its debut week (back in April 2013), as it steps 19-8 with 35,000 (down 3%). The "Now 48" collection steps 12-9 with 34,000 (down 42%) and Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" closes out the top 10, moving 9-10 with 31,000 (down 50%). Overall album sales were down 43% this past week, so any title that shows a moderate decline actually moves up the chart. Thus, Bryan and OneRepublic—down just 19% and 4%, respectively—return to the top 10. ("Frozen" is the only album among the top 20 on the chart to post a gain in sales this week.) On the Digital Songs chart, Pitbull's "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, reigns at No. 1 for another week with 301,000 (down 32%). A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" rises 4-2 with 241,000 (down 32%). OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" is steady at No. 3 with 237,000 (down 42%), and Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, trots 7-4 with 229,000 (down 20%). Eminem's "The Monster," featuring Rihanna, slides 2-5 with 220,000 (down 49%); Passenger's "Let Her Go" rises 8-6 with 184,000 (down 34%); and Lorde's "Royals" slips 5-7 with 183,000 (down 40%). One Direction's "Story of My Life" is up 9-8 with 158,000 (down 40%), Perry's "Roar" moves 10-9 with 157,000 (down 39%), and Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" ascends 11-10 with 141,000 (down 28%). On the 50-position Digital Songs chart, only three songs earn an increase in sales over the previous week. Nearly all titles decline, following last week's blockbuster post-Christmas sales week, which normally sees a surge in sales for digital songs thanks to the redemption of newly acquired digital gift cards. (Total song sales for the week ending Jan. 5 were down by 29%, while in the previous week, they rallied by 98%.) Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Jan. 5) totaled 5.4 million units, down 43% compared with the sum last week (9.4 million) and down 14% compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (6.3 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 30.6 million downloads, down 29% compared with last week (43.1 million) and down 11% stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (34.5 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Chris Tomlin's "Burning Lights" debuted at No. 1 with 76,000, while Hollywood Undead's "Notes From the Underground" started at No. 2 with 53,000. The previous week's leader, the "Les Misérables" soundtrack, fell to No. 3 with 52,000 (down 44%).

Was this week really comparable to last week (discounts, gift cards etc..) if so, quite bad numbers.
Although anyone expecting an year-to-year increase in the long run is crazy. Include paid streaming in chart and quick!

This is traditionally the week where album sales plummet. Last year's thread: pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/128496/billboard-200-les-miserables-92kOverall album sales in this past chart week (ending Jan. 6) totaled 6.26 million units, down 36% compared with the sum last week (9.77 million) and up 8% compared with the comparable sales week of 2012 (5.80 million). Yes, so worse than last year. We had an increase last year. Let's hope Bruce Sprinsgteen and Eric Church can help with their upcoming albums.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/chart-watch-frozen-frozen-country-184446354.htmlChart Watch: “Frozen” for a Frozen Country By Paul Grein, Yahoo Music What perfect timing: While much of the country has been experiencing a deep freeze, the "Frozen" jumps to #1 on The Billboard 200. In addition, the movie returned to #1 at the box-office over the weekend. This marks the first time that a movie and its soundtrack both ranked #1 since "The Hunger Games" debuted in the top spot on both charts in March 2012. This is the second year in a row that a movie soundtrack was #1 in the first week of the year. "Les Miserables" was the first #1 album of 2013. A movie soundtrack was also on top as the year began in four other years in the Nielsen SoundScan era: 1993 ("The Bodyguard"), 1996 ("Waiting To Exhale"), 2003 ("8 Mile") and 2007 ("Dreamgirls"). ("Titanic" hit #1 in the second week of 1998.) "Frozen" reaches #1 in its sixth week. It's the first album to take that long to reach #1 since Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox" hit the top in its 12th week in March 2013. It's the first soundtrack to take six or more weeks to hit #1 since "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" took 63 long weeks before it finally hit the top in March 2002. "Frozen" is the fifth soundtrack to an animated movie to reach #1. It follows "Cinderella" (two weeks at #1 in 1950), "The Lion King" (10 weeks in 1994-1995), "Pocahontas" (one week in 1995) and Jack Johnson's "Curious George" (one week in 2006). "Cinderella," "The Lion King" and "Pocahontas" each spawned one or more Oscar-nominated songs. Look for "Frozen" to follow suit. "Let It Go," the movie's key song, is almost certain to be in the running for Best Song when the Oscar nominations are announced next Thursday (Jan. 16). Two versions of the song are climbing the Hot 100. Idina Menzel's version ranked #32 last week. Demi Lovato's version was #43. "Frozen" sold 133K digital copies, which also puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. The album is also #1 on Top Soundtracks for the sixth week. You already know that Beyonce's "Beyonce" is a big hit, but wrap your head around this: "Beyonce" has sold more copies (1,432,000) in its first four weeks of release than her previous album, "4," has sold since it was released in June 2011 (1,388,000). "4" was a relative disappointment for the superstar. Each of her three previous studio albums topped the 3 million sales mark. "Beyonce" has been especially strong in the digital realm. The album tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. This is by far the fastest that any album has sold 1M digital copies. The old record was held by Adele's 21, which took 20 weeks to achieve the feat. "Beyonce" is the ninth album to sell 1M digital copies. It's the first by an African American or R&B artist. Katy Perry's "Prism" rebounds from #5 to #3. The album tops the 1 million sales mark in its 11th week. That's much faster than either of Perry's previous studio albums. Her 2008 debut, "One Of The Boys," took 48 weeks to reach the 1M mark. Her 2010 follow-up, "Teenage Dream," took 20 weeks. Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party" rebounds from #14 to #7. It returns to #1 on Top Country Albums after a nine-week absence. This is its eighth week on top. That's the longest run by a male solo artist since Jason Aldean's "My Kinda Party" spent 12 weeks on top in 2011. Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" dips from #9 to #10. It has now appeared in the top 10 in three calendar years, a neat trick. "Timber" by Pitbull featuring Ke$ha logs its fourth week at #1 on Hot Digital Songs (301K). Will the song finally move up to #1 on the Hot 100 (after spending the last four weeks at #2)? You'll find out later today when we post my Songs blog. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: The "Frozen" soundtrack jumps from #4 to #1 in its sixth week (165K). This is its fourth week in the top 10… Beyonce's "Beyonce" dips to #2 in its fourth week (130K). This is its 10th week in the top 10… Lorde's "Pure Heroine" jumps from #7 to #5 in its 14th week (46K). This is its ninth week in the top 10. The Second Five: One Direction's "Midnight Memories" drops from #2 to #6 in its sixth week (45K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time…Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party" rebounds from #14 to #7 in its 21st week (43K). This is its 13th week in the top 10… OneRepublic's "Native" rebounds from #19 to #8 in its 41st week (35K). This is its second week in the top 10…"Now 48" rebounds from #12 to #9 in its eighth week (34K). This is its fourth week in the top 10… Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" dips from #9 to #10 in its 70th week (31K). This is its 21st week in the top 10. Three albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Garth Brooks' "Blame it All On My Roots: Five Decades Of Influences" drops from #6 to #14. Miley Cyrus' "Bangerz" drops from #8 to #13. With the holidays over, Kelly Clarkson's "Wrapped In Red" tumbles from #10 to #64. Florida Georgia Line's "Here's To The Good Times" dips from #15 to #16 in its 57th week. The album tops the 500K mark in digital sales this week. Jason Aldean's "Night Train" topped the 500K digital sales mark last week. It's his second album to reach that plateau. "My Kinda Party" has sold 606K digital copies. Two soundtracks to big Christmas movies move up this week. "Inside Llewyn Davis" leaps from #48 to #23 in its fourth week. "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" vaults from #123 to #30 in its second week. "Foreverly" by Billie Joe Armstrong + Norah Jones rebounds from #53 to #33 in its sixth week in the wake of Phil Everly's death last week. This is its highest ranking to date. The album got off to a tepid start, but the publicity surrounding Everly's death seems to have given it a second wind. "The Very Best Of The Everly Brothers" sold 2K copies, not quite enough to make this week's chart. One Direction's "Up All Night" drops from #60 to #70 in its 92nd week. It moves up to #1 on Top Catalog Albums. It's the boy band's first #1 on this chart. Ellie Goulding's "Halcyon" rebounds from #137 to #107 in its 54th chart week. The album debuted and peaked at #9 in October 2012. The album finally reaches #1 on The U.K.'s Official Albums Chart this week. It's her second #1 in her home country. Eric Clapton's "Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013" returns to #1 on Top Music Videos, displacing Beyonce's "Life Is But A Dream." This is its third week on top. With sales of 60K last year, this was the fourth best-selling music video of 2013, behind One Direction's "Up All Night—The Live Tour" (105K), Eagles' "History Of The Eagles" (97K) and Adele's "Live At The Royal Albert Hall" (78K). Coming Attractions: Look for Kid Ink's "My Own Lane" and John Newman's "Tribute" to be among next week's top new entries.

Coming Attractions: Look for Kid Ink's "My Own Lane" and John Newman's "Tribute" to be among next week's top new entries. Bout time we snatched at least one of Adele's wigs

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5869527/chart-moves-katy-perrys-prism-hits-1-million-in-sales-onerepublic-returnsChart Moves: Katy Perry's 'PRISM' Hits 1 Million in Sales, OneRepublic Returns to Top 10 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | January 10, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen" iced Beyonce out of the No. 1 slot. The movie's companion album hopped from No. 4 to No. 1, selling 165,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Beyonce's self-titled album, which spent its first three chart weeks at No. 1, slid to No. 2 with 130,000. As usual, there were a number of movers and shakers outside of the top two positions on the chart this week. Let's take a look at some of them... -- Katy Perry, "PRISM" (No. 4): The pop star celebrates her third million-selling album this week with "PRISM." The set, her latest studio effort for Capitol, sold 51,000 copies this week, upping its cumulative tally to 1,020,000 in 11 weeks of release. Her last album, 2010's "Teenage Dream," reached 1 million in 20 weeks. -- OneRepublic, "Native" (No. 8): The group's album -- red-hot with its single "Counting Stars" (No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week) -- returns to the top 10 on the Billboard 200 (down a scant 3%) for the first time since its debut frame 40 weeks ago (April 13, 2013). -- Avicii, "True" (No. 22): Seventeen albums leap by at least 50 positions on the chart, including Avicii's “True,” which vaults 61 slots (up 22% to 13,000). It's one of only three titles in the top 25 with an increase in sales this week, a remarkable move given that the album market was down by 43%. -- Jim Brickman, "The Magic of Christmas" (No. 58): While it's the highest debut this week (6,000; up 38%), it's not new to market; it was released in October. The holiday effort appears on the list, with a gain, thanks to deep discounting at Target stores. It's the only brick-and-mortar retailer to carry the CD. -- Soundtrack, "American Hustle" (No. 73): A number of films currently in theaters see their corresponding soundtracks scale the chart this week, including "American Hustle," whose companion set soars 188-73 with 5,000 (up 5%). Also climbing: "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" (123-30; up 37%) and "Inside Llewyn Davis" (48-23; up 22%). -- CHVRCHES, "Bones of What You Believe" (No. 98): Youthful-appealing acts make headway on the chart every January, after the Christmas shopping season. In theory, kids with newly-acquired gift cards do some music buying after the holidays, so we see hip acts like CHVRCHES, Haim's "Days Are Gone" (103-42; down a moderate 7%) and Jhene Aiko's "Sail Out" (146-49; up 4%) climb.

I didn't realize the BB200 included EP's but it looks like Ale Blac's EP is there at 195.

^Where else would they chart? There may be a time requirement for it to chart, though- or, it may rtequire a certain number of individual tracks (i.e. not remix EPs that include five or more versions of the same track).

I know the stat about animated soundtracks going to number one being rare. What is also becoming increasingly rare is soundtracks at all going to #1
Excluding TV shows, this is just the 3rd this decade and 14th since 2000 to go to #1. Few have been long lasting smashes. A difference from prior decades.
