If all these stations: WNOE WCIL, KMDL, KXKC, WYPY, KEUN, WYNK, KBXG, WYPY, WTGE, WZKX,WKNN, WGCM, WKSJ, WXBM, WYCT, WAAZ plus potentially many more lose power for a week or weeks, will this effect the country and all music charts? I know some big stations are down South.

I doubt they will lose power for a week. But if it happens it definitely would affect the chart

So what who cares about the charts in this area, I think are concern should be about the people in them areas whose lifes is being turned upside down. God Bless them, my prayers go out to them.

I was waiting for some one to post about the charts not being important during this time. This is a music based site in a music forum within a thread. If you want to post your thoughts and prayers there are other threads where that can be done. It was a very simple question and a very thoughtful one with regards to the music business. I do feel for the people of New Orleans, Mississippi and Alabama(where I live and have relatives in Mobile) but not everyone in the U.S. is being affected by this.

I remember this type of discussion coming up in 2003 when the shuttle mishap occurred. Mark Wills was at #1 with "19 Something" - a song that mentioned the shuttle mishap in the '80s. After the Discovery explosion, stations pulled Mark's song, some were commenting about the disaster's effect on the charts, and others were like "how could you care about the charts during such a tragic time"? I totally believe that these people need our prayers, but I also believe I can communicate that better in a Bible Study group than in a music forum.

Totally off subject but glad to see Wrinkles hit number 1 on your chart. It did as well on mine.

It might have a little something to do with the fact that ST fans tend to blame her flop songs on anything and everything. *That is: everything other than - writing, vocals, music, lyrics..... Katrina = disaster "Shoes" = disaster And I don't get your comment in the Katrina thread...

Free2Bme: I see you're attempting mind-reading now? "Gotcha" asked a simple question that has nothing to do with Shania. You're just attempting to spread your anti-Shania crap all over this board.

LOCAL RADIO COMES THROUGH IN RAVAGED GULF COAST AREA Inside Radio reports that broadcasters on the Gulf Coast are showing the value of live radio by cooperating across ownership lines. Look for Entercom and Clear Channel to announce the "United Radio Broadcasters of New Orleans" - using the best efforts of both companies to create programming for their 13 stations. Inside Radio also reports that Katrina failed to destroy any major radio towers along the Gulf Coast. Credit goes to tougher "south coast exposure" rules for tower construction. Since much of the damage is coming from flooding - this disaster may be more of a problem to transmitters than to actual towers.

Katrina struck Florida first. While the effects were nowhere near as bad (like, not in the same UNIVERSE), there were still some electricity issues. although i'm not sure about Pensacola specifically because it was Miami-Dade and Broward counties that were mostly hit.

Pensacola is in the panhandle, which isn't that far from the second hit.

If you look at Mediabase, you will see that now that we have started a new week, a large majority of the chart (and mostly Top 10) is bulletless. This would be when the missing spins would show up, so maybe this is going to have more of an effect per song...

The New Orleans and Biloxi stations are temporarily off the panel, which is why only 118 stations are reporting instead of 120.

OHHHHH, I was wondering why it shrank, yet again. It seems to change every week.

The New Orleans and Biloxi stations are temporarily off the panel, which is why only 118 stations are reporting instead of 120. I noticed on the MB chart today that there were some huge gains in audience compared to yesterday's numbers (10 songs gained more than 1 million in audience impressions from Sunday morning's totals). I checked the jump chart and it listed the # of stations reporting for many of the songs at 120. Are they still counting the N.O. and Biloxi stations - or did they add an additional 2 stations to take their place? If they didn't add 2 stations, I'm not sure why the numbers would have gone up so dramatically for so many songs.

The panel consisted of 118 stations in the R&R issue dated August 12th, and stood at 120 in the issue dated August 26th.
