Like Diamond Rio, Brooks & Dunn signed to the Arista label in 1990. They issued their debut single, Brand New Man in June, 1991. That was the title track to their debut album. It reached the top in September for two weeks. They also got a chart topper that year with My Next Broken Heart. 1992 saw them chart with the #1s in Neon Moon and Boot Scootin' Boogie. Their perfect track record stopped with the fifth single, Lost And Found (#6).

The Wreckers signed to the Maverick label in 2005. After releasing a promo single that did not chart anywhere, they released Leave The Pieces off their Stand Still, Look Pretty album. That was released in February, 2006 and topped the country chart for two weeks in September. Before the year ended, they released My, Oh My. That peaked at #9 during the early part of 2007. Fourth and final single, Tennessee hit #33. After that single peaked, they announced they were going their separate ways.

You might have gotten it from the notes, but The Wreckers featured Michelle Branch (Everywhere, All You Wanted, Are You Happy Now?).

Country Trios, Part II:
The Glaser Brothers (billed officially as Tompall and the Glaser Brothers) consisted of Tompall, Chuck, and Jim Glaser. They charted during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. They disbanded between 1973-1979. They signed to Elektra in 1980. In 1981, they released their biggest hit called Lovin' Her Was Easier Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again. That originally charted for its songwriter, Kris Kristofferson in 1971 (#26 pop and #4 adult contemporary). Roger Miller took his version to #28 country that same year. The Glaser Brothers released their version in April and got as high as #2 in July for two weeks and could not unseat Alabama's Feels So Right from the top. They got two more major hits off the album (Lovin' Her Was Easier): Just One Time (#17) and It'll Be Her (#19 in 1982). 1982 was the year they disbanded for the second time. This one was permanent. Jim Glaser started a solo career shortly thereafter. He DID top the chart in 1984 with You're Gettin' To Me Again, his ONLY #1 hit.

Lovin’ Her Was Easy is a great song. My favorite Glaser Brothers song is I Still Love You (After All These Years). It was the first single from their 1982 album After All These Years, peaking at #28 (their final Top 40 hit). A few years ago I bought a combination CD that has both albums, Lovin’ Her Was Easier and After All These Years, on a single CD.

Country Trios, Part IV:
Schuyler, Knobloch & Overstreet were a short lived trio. They signed to the MTM label in 1986. They issued their debut single that year called You Can't Stop Love. That peaked at #9 before the year ended. Just before 1986 ended, they released their second single, Baby's Got A New Baby. That topped the chart in March, 1987 and became the second and final chart topper MTM would have (the first being Until I Met You by Judy Rodman in 1986). In April, they released their third and final single, American Me from their self-titled debut album. Something shocking happened during this time. Paul Overstreet decided to leave the trio and restart his solo career. That did not stop American Me from being a hit. It peaked at #16 in June. S-K-O became S-K-B when Craig Bickhardt joined the trio. They charted four singles between 1987-1988. Then MTM folded and that was the end of the trio.

Blaine Larsen - I Don't Know What She Said John Pierce's debut and only RCA Nashville single, "I'd Still Have You" was released in January of 2006 and peaked at #49 on R&R in February. He recorded enough songs for his debut album with producer Byron Gallimore but it was shelved when he was dropped from the label later this year. A native of Montana, John Pierce didn't disappear entirely from Country radio conscious, as he co-wrote the 2013 #1 single "Sweet Annie" by the Zac Brown Band. Yes, I uploaded this one to YouTube myself lol. The song was never available after Pierce left the label and it's a song that is nearly impossible to find. I thank a friend here for getting me the songs a few years ago... I love this song. It's such a traditional feel and subject for a country song and Pierce's vocals fit it perfectly. I'm shocked he was one and done at Sony. Alan Jackson - The Talkin' Song Repair Blues "The Middle Of Nowhere" was the final single for Brian McComas at Lyric Street Records and unfortunately, his last time into the top 40 on either R&R/MB or Billboard. The single was supposed to be the lead for an album due out in late spring/early summer, but that never happened due to its chart performance. This song is very hard to find anywhere. I don't ever recall it being on iTunes, as believe it or not, not every charting single back then in the mid 2000's was made available on iTunes. It's not the most earth-shattering song but the melody always gets stuck in my head and it's instrumentation is great. Big fan of Brian McComas' music in general. Here's a Statler Brothers video that's appropriate for July 4. You've Been Like a Mother to Me was the second single from their 1991 album All American Country. It did not chart; their final chart appearance was Small Small World (#54 in 1990). By 1991 their main focus was on their weekly TNN variety show which premiered that year.

The final single from Carolina Rain, “Weight Of The World.” . It peaked at #61 on Mediabase the first week of 2009 and never charted on Billboard. It didn’t last long because their label, Equity Music Group, shuttered in January of 2009. .indulgecountry , Ten Pound Hammer , Kanenrá:ke , zaclord 🌈 , bigfan101 , kw9461 , bboat11 , Andy , Dustin J. , rsmatto , jhomes87 , castleoblivion26 , someguy , tim , LBTrocks

Why they never found success is beyond me.

In honor of Labor Day it seems appropriate to feature Alabama's 1985 #1 hit 40 Hour Week (For a Livin'). It was the title track and second single from their 1985 album 40 Hour Week. It was the 17th in their record string of 21 consecutive #1 hits from 1980 to 1987 (they wound up with 32 #1s total, including 6 more in a row after their streak was broken by Tar Top).

Highwayman and Trio Week:
The Highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson) and the Trio (Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and Linda Ronstadt) charted seven singles between 1985-1990, all of them making the top 40. We will start with the gentlemen because they debuted together in 1985, the ladies in 1987. Highwayman was the title track and lead single to their 1985 album. The tune was originally recorded by Glen Campbell in 1978. His label at the time, Capitol refused to release it as a single. That is why Campbell left Capitol during the early 1980s after two decades with them. The most famous version was recorded in 1984. The single was released in May, 1985 and rose to the top of the chart in August. When it did top the chart, Cash became the second artist to have chart toppers during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s after George Jones.

Highwayman and Trio, Part III:
The Highwaymen released their second album in 1990 called Highwayman 2. Lead single, Silver Stallion was released in February. It peaked at #25 in April. It was their final single to chart as subsequent singles did not chart: Born And Raised In Black And White and American Remains. The album topped off at #4 country and #79 top 200. They reunited just one more time for the 1995 album, The Road Goes On Forever on Liberty Records. Sadly, two members of the group are no longer with us. Waylon Jennings passed away in 2002 as did Johnny Cash in 2003.

Highwayman and Trio, Part IV:
They've been talking about doing an album for a decade. However, with the three ladies having busy schedules and being on different labels prevented that from happening. They finally got together in 1986 to record the Trio album. In fact, they started to record the album during Dolly Parton's 40th birthday (in January, 1986). While recording the album, Parton ended her longtime association with RCA Records and signed to the Columbia label. The results were spectacular. Four hit singles were produced and the album is certified platinum. Lead single, To Know Him Is To Love Him was released in February, 1987. It was a remake of The Teddy Bears classic of 1958 (#1 pop and #10 r&b). In the hands of Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt, it became their only chart topper in May.
