Those We Lost, Part VII:
Joe Sun started his career with his highest charted song. It ended up being a bigger hit for someone else just two years later. That was Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You. That came from his 1978 debut album, Old Flames. Released in June, it peaked at #14 in September. Then Brian Collins charted a version which peaked at #86. Getting back to Sun, second single, High And Dry peaked at #20 just before the year ended. He opened his 1979 with the third and final single, the double-sided On Business For The King/Blue Ribbon Blues. That topped off at #27. In 1980, Dolly Parton took her version of Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You to the top of the chart. Sun died in October at the age of 76.

Leap Year Edition:
The last time we had a chart dated for February 29 was back in 1992. Garth Brooks led the chart with his second biggest hit, What She's Doing Now. That came from his history making album, Ropin' The Wind (1991). Lead single, Rodeo topped off at #3. By the time that peaked, Ropin' The Wind became the first country album to debut at the top of BOTH country and top 200 charts. The second single, Shameless topped the chart for two weeks in November. What She's Doing Now was tapped as the third single. That was released in December and topped the chart for four weeks in February and March, 1992. Two more singles were released: Papa Loved Mama (#3) and The River (#1).

Alecia Elliott was only 16 going on 17 when her debut single was released. She only charted once more on MCA with "You Wanna What?" in 2000 before leaving the label. After a long music hiatus she returned in 2019 with an independent release.
If you have this stuck in your head for a few days, you're welcome lol.

Memorial Day Edition:
Tim McGraw gave us a single in 2007 that gave us a moment to pause and reflect. It was If You're Reading This and it was one of seven singles released from the 2007 album, Let It Go. Lead single, Last Dollar Fly Away became McGraw's 21st chart topper in April. He charted a duet with Faith Hill called I Need You. That peaked at #8. He sang a new song at the A.C.M. Awards called If You're Reading This. Curb released the version from the awards show in May. It was charting at the same time as the Hill duet. It peaked at #3 in October. McGraw was on the charts with the next three singles in 2008: his version of Suspicions (#12), Kristofferson (#16), and the title track (#2). One more single was released in 2009 and that was Nothin' To Die For (#5).

Tomorrow marks the 60th anniversary of the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. To mark that dark chapter in American history, I will download three videos associated with that event. They are:
1. History Repeats Itself-Buddy Starcher-parallels the assassinations of J.F.K. and Abraham Lincoln. 2. An American Boy-Eddie Rabbitt-excerpts of J.F.K.'s 1961 inaugural address are included in the song. 3. Who Did They Think He Was-Conway Twitty-namedrops J.F.K., Jesus, and Elvis Presley.
