He did it! Calvin gets his sixth UK #1 with "Summer".

Congratulations to Calvin Harris, who has gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart today with "Summer".

The track, which is the first to be released from the Scottish DJ and producer's upcoming fourth studio album, outsold last week's chart topper, "Waves" by Mr Probz (down one place to Number 2 today) by nearly 7,000 copies, according to the Official Charts Company's sales data.

"Summer" is the sixth track to feature Calvin Harris to reach Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart, and he's had a hand in two others: He scored his first Number 1 in 2008 with "Dance Wiv Me" with Dizzee Rascal, "I'm Not Alone" hit the top spot in 2009, while his 2011 collaboration with Rihanna, "We Found Love", spent six weeks at the chart summit and has gone on to become one of the UK's biggest selling singles of all-time.

In 2012 Calvin enjoyed three Number 1 singles: "Call My Name", which he wrote and produced for Cheryl Cole, topped the chart in June, his remix of "Spectrum (Say My Name)" took the Florence And The Machine track to Number 1 in July, while "Sweet Nothing", another collaboration with the group's frontwoman, Florence Welch, hit the top spot in October.

Calvin teamed up with Swedish DJ and producer Alesso and Hurts vocalist, Theo Hutchcraft, for his next Number 1, "Under Control", which went straight in at Number 1 last November.

2013 also saw Calvin set a new Official Chart when he became the first artist in history to clock up nine Top 10 singles from one album (18 Months), beating previous title holder, Michael Jackson.

There is a rumour that Calvin would extend his residency in Las Vegas for another 12 months and executives at MGM Resorts International has offered him USD 10m for that. Get that money, Calvin!

Is the world's No. 1 DJ Calvin Harris at the center of a furious Strip nightclub bidding war? British newspapers are reporting today that Hakkasan at MGM Grand has offered him a massive $10 million contract to extend his current two-year contract for another 12 months.

Executives at MGM Resorts International, the parent company of MGM Grand, fear that Calvin — birth name Adam Richard Wiles — who is only one year into his two-year deal, might be grabbed by rivals as the brutal bidding wars on the Strip go into overdrive.

Other players alongside Hakkasan Group on the Strip: Steve Wynn’s nightclubs (XS, Tryst, Surrender), Tao Group (Tao, Lavo, Marquee) and Sam Nazarian's new SLS hotel (Hyde). Nightlife czar Victor Drai has said that he's not going to get into the big-bucks DJ war, saying it's becoming unprofitable.

The first one is about being #1 in the UK for "I Will Never Let You Down", the song he wrote and produced for Rita Ora and he, literally, woke up when he received the news in Las Vegas and he decided to take a shower after that, while the second one is in the Billboard Music Awards red carpet, where he is with Burns and his team.

PS. Daft Punk won in the Top Dance/Electronic Artist category where Calvin was nominated.

Pharrell teased a possible collaboration with Calvin Harris :o

He told the following to Capital Breakfast:

"You know what? We spoke, we haven't had a chance to finish having a conversation but I think he is so incredibly talented and whatever he would like to do, yeah I'd do that. I think he has a rare unique voice and I think the songs that he makes are just so different and the world needs people like him."

I know it's very early at the moment, but this needs to happen. Also, the fact that Pharrell praised Calvin's voice makes me think why he still don't like to do it much often

Douche? Anyway, I think Calvin will be doing the same formula from 18 Months, so he may release a bunch of singles until the album is released. Let's remember that "Awooga", which was the first promotional cut, was out on March 2011. I'm not so fond into this idea though.

The fever surrounding the next album from one of EDM's biggest hitmakers began burning in March, when lead single "Summer" quickly reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and became a seasonal anthem on the electronic pop music circuit. Harris' next single, "Blame", is out in early September and spotlights emerging British soul star John Newman, whose "Love Me Again" was a major hit in the United Kingdom. The new album's title and release date haven't been finalized, but expect the roster of celebrity friends to rival Harris' last album, 2012's 18 Months, which featured Florence Welch, Ne-Yo, Ellie Goulding and Rihanna.

With a TBD name album and release, Billboard mentions that Calvin's fourth album will be released this year. I really don't know what to say because although it corroborates PopJustice information from later last year, I was expecting it to be released next year if it's considered that there isn't many details about it.

Also, "Summer" didn't reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 (It peaked at #7 actually), but it peaked atop on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs.

That's true. I mean, when he made the transition from singing on the songs he produced to be a DJ after the Ready for the Weekend era finished, he said that he wanted to release a lot of songs because an album wasn't planned, so "Awooga", "Bounce" and "Feel So Close" came out in 2011. However, I think he became worldwide known (Actually, he had some previous success in the UK and Australia) because of "We Found Love" and, as a consequence, "Feel So Close" was the beginning of his mainstream success when it was pushed by Ultra Records in the US in early 2012.

Regarding the album release, I think that there's going to be a song to preceed it. I mean, when "Blame" was pushed back to an October release in the UK, I thought that there was a slightly chance that the album could be dropped a week or two weeks later, but if we consider that it was brought forward to next week instead, I don't think he will release another single later this year, so I guess (and I hope) that there will be an album name and date when the third single is announced, which I also think it could be (out) in the first quarter of 2015.

John Newman talked to Kevin Hughes from Capital FM how was recording with Calvin on "Blame" and he said the following:

"He's a lovely guy, and he makes very good music. He's a great songwriter and he puts it into a modern way. He kind of craft songs and touches them with his absolute genius and seems to be smashing number one every time. For me as well, there's so many EDM artists and dance artists out there but it's so nice to have somebody that really crafts their music and really cares about the songs."

Calvin was with Ryan Seacrest on On Air With Ryan Seacrest (duh!) and he talked about "Blame" and how Rita changed the lyrics from "I Will Never Let You Down", that song he wrote for her.

From Ryan Seacrest website:

"He (John Newman) wrote the song, he wrote the lyrics. So he's got an amazing voice and he's an amazing writer, which is like a golden combination. Like, you don't really get that a lot. You get a lot of amazing singers who can't really write. This guy does both."

The interesting part of this, though, is that John connected with Calvin via Twitter direct message and he thought that the song could fit into a production from Calvin. As a consequence, he denied that part of the lyrics of "Blame" (re: "Can't you see / I was manipulated / I had to let her through the door") refers to his breakup with Rita because John wrote it.

Also, he hinted that John will be performing tomorrow with him at the iTunes Festival and he will try to make John to perform with him too at the iHeart Radio Music Festival.

Calvin's most popular track on Spotify is "Summer" with over 160 million streams worldwide, while the total one billion count is the equivalent of 5000 years of continuous listening.

Also, this is what Mark Terry, Co-President of Columbia Records UK, said:

Not content with becoming the first British solo act to top a billion streams on Spotify, now Calvin Harris has passed another huge milestone on the platform.

Harris's new single "Blame" shot to No.1 on Spotify's Global Chart yesterday, just three days after its release - making it the fastest-ever climber to the top spot.

Tracks typically take around seven weeks to work their way to the chart's summit. "Blame" was released on Spotify around the world at the same time it went on sale - a decision presumably made by Sony Music and Harris's management company Three Six Zero.

After its long-awaited premiere last weekend, "Blame" has shot straight to the top of the Official Singles Chart today. The record was set for the week from Monday September 8 to Sunday September 14.

The new single reached No.1 on Spotify's Global chart within only three days of release.

"Blame" also became the most streamed song in a single day with over 1.8 million on Friday September 12.

The same track held the previous record with 1.6 million on Wednesday September 10.

Last week also saw Calvin Harris' become the first British solo artist to be streamed more than one billion times on Spotify.

It's not so easy to say how many number ones Harris has had. As a completely solo artist, he has had two, as a primary artist he has had five, as a primary or contributing artist he has had seven, and as a writer and producer he has had 10 - all in a little over six years, during which period four more of his songs have reached number two.

Harris first came to wider notice in 2007 when his suitably retro "Acceptable In The 80s" reached number 10. By the following year, he had produced and co-written his first number one, "Dance Wiv Me" by Dizzee Rascal, on which also garnered a 'featuring' credit. In 2009, he wrote, produced and performed his first solo number one, "I'm Not Alone", then produced and co-wrote (but didn't get an artist credit) on another Dizzee Rascal number one, "Holiday".
