You're right, DH would be #1 without the Grammys, but it certainly didn't hurt to have a live performance. A live performance 3 hours before the end of the charting week though? How much sales could that give, 5-10k? You guys are just freaking picky. What part of my sentence was false? All I was doing was noting that twice, Katy Perry has performed a song at the Grammys, without winning any Grammys, and then had the #1 song in the country. Pure chart trivia, that's all! Not sure why everyone is pouncing on me like I said something horrifically wrong or awful or stupid. I like the song, good for it!

Dark Horse is there to stay at #1 for at least 5 weeks (assuming airplay gains don't stop unexpectedly) and because of that I feel that Pharrell will have the same misfortune with Happy as he did with Get Lucky (except that in that case he had the #1 song at the time as well) and Happy will end up getting blocked from #1 by Dark Horse :/ I love both songs and I wish Happy would get to #1 as well...

Which of her No. 1s didn't deserve it, Anonymous? They all had the most chart points in their given weeks on top. ;)

Prediction: 1) Dark Horse (20-25% lead over Timber) 2) Timber 3) Counting Stars 4) Say Something 5) The Monster 6) Team 7) Let Her Go 8) Pompeii 9) Happy 10) Royals Got the top five, only 1% off the lead too. Then... Not I didn't do well. Congrats to Katy! She needs to release the video soon. I'm surprised that Happy isn't there at all. On a side note, why all the hate for Unconditionally? I love it.

Katy has scored 9 #1 singles from her three albums. Rihanna has earned 10 #1 singles from her seven albums.
It'll be a horse race in a year or two, if Katy catches up with her.

Of note is that Katy Perry's "Part of Me," as well as Rihanna's "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia," did not originate on the initial releases for the albums with which they were associated. :)
"Unconditionally" peaked at No. 14 on the Hot 100.

Correct me if I am wrong; Hot n' Cold and Fireword are tied for Katy Perry's longest charting songs (as of this week) with 39 weeks total spent on chart. Considering that Dark Horse made its slow climb to #1 on its 19th week and since it's probably going to stay there for a few weeks and with the video to come out at a later date and whatnot I think Dark Horse can easily be her first song to get 40 weeks on the chart! That would be pretty sick! It would also assure DH to be in the top 10 (maybe even top 5) songs of 2014! I guess we'll see how it goes... It's so damn strange how Katy is such a huge star yet her songs generally have such poor longevity! If I'm not mistaken, only 4 songs from her (TD, Firework, E.T. and HnC) had spent 30+ weeks on the Hot 100 (although it's safe to say Roar will be the third and Dark Horse will be the fourth) and consider the fact that "One Hit Wonder" (perhaps not totally appropriate to call him that, but BL is really the only song that comes to mind when hearing about him) Robin Thicke hadn't had any song reach even the top 10, yet BL is gonna finish its chart run with damn near a full year on the chart! Same goes to ID who will probably [hopefully] hold the record for the song the most weeks on chart and perhaps Demons will also end up spending a full year on the chart (Mark G.'s new made-up billboard achievement: Imagine Dragons will be the only artist to have more than one song spend more than a year on the chart ). It's strange...I really would like to see Dark Horse break her longevity record and spend 40+ weeks!

Can anyone double check DIL's update, please? It's around 1.6 and not 0.6 when you add up AI from individual formats. Thanks in advance. Urban: -0.586 That's on the update that includes non-panel stations. Never seen an update changed so much like that before. I can try to explain more if this doesn't make sense. Could you josh? I'm kinda lost.

^That's probably what it is. That's exactly what it is. Billboard only counts the year that the song first peaked. If it peaks at #1 in say December, but stays at #1 until January, only the December peak date is counted.

The Billboard chart year runs December-November- but when it comes to records like this and actual years, it goes by the year something hits its peak.

Ok, think of it this way: they can't count it for both December and January because then they'd be counting it twice. Do you see now? Only one song in the history of the Hot 100 ever reached #1 twice in two different chart runs. It was "The Twist" in 1960 and 1962. But even then, Billboard still only counted it once, the first time it reached #1. Otherwise, they would have counted the same song twice, and that would have messed up their overall number of #1's.

I can try to explain more if this doesn't make sense. Could you josh? I'm kinda lost. The daily updates posted for formats don't include all stations tracked by Mediabase. The overall updates posted here do. Compare the numbers here kworb.net/radio/ (panel stations) and here kworb.net/aradio/ (panel stations + a few more) and you see songs have more spins and audience. With those extra stations you can have inconsistencies between overall updates posted in this thread and manually adding up numbers from all formats. What happened today with "Drunk In Love" is highly unusual. In urban it gained 0.386 on the panel-only, but actually lost 0.586 when you include all urban stations. Normally it would be something like +0.386 panel-only and +0.326 all stations, just a minimal difference.

are Dark Horse and Dope the only songs to ever be #1 on streaming without a music video? That's quite impressive! And the vibe for Dope died down quickly whereas Dark Horse is still gaining momentum and its points will skyrocket once an official music video is out! It's definitely getting at least 5 weeks I repeat AT LEAST (so quite possibly even more!) at #1 on the Hot 100! Very good for Katy Perry! :)

It seems like the E.T of the Prism era, and I'd be amazed if Dark Horse surpasses Roar in success in the US. It's always interesting to see how different singles are perceived from different territories, Dark Horse seems like it will be a monster in the US. I didn't think she'd have a bigger single than Roar for this era, but Dark Horse is definitely proving me wrong. If Firework and E.T hit the Top 5 of the year end chart in 2011, I have a feeling Dark Horse could do it too, or maybe even be #1, it's chart run almost fit's perfectly into the year of 2014.

Wellllllllll, not always…Billboard has said in the past that Mariah Carey is the only artist to have a number one single in each year of a decade (the 90s). But that only works if you count "Hero" for 1994, even though it reached number one the final week of 1993. They don't specify "spent time at number one during each year of a decade". That's always irked me, just as much as it irks me that Mariah missed that unique milestone by one week.
