Was Swift's "Red" ever actually released as a single? I know it had that one week giant digital burst and then I never heard of it apart from country radio. Yes, it was. At country radio (only). ;)

It had to be released as a single, for it to sell what it did in advance of the album release. :)
Top 40 isn't the only radio format out there; if a track is promoted to any format, it's a radio release.

Great that John Legend has the biggest hit of his career in his hands now. It's always nice to see "older" stars doing well.

"older" in this case means 35 Yes but he's had a decade-long career, with lasting hits few and far between.. So this is very exciting for him and his fans

These female duets hardly ever fare well on the charts.
Star power alone won't make a song a HIT.

Happy is gonna be #4 tomorrow, just in time for the end of the BDS airplay tracking week...but will it be enough for the song to get to #1 on the Hot 100 this week? I guess we'll find out...although I'm pretty sure its streaming is too far below that of DH so it probably won't get it this week...glad to see three songs I love being the top three gainers today :)

3 weeks? Wonder how you felt in 1996 when One Sweet Day was #1 for 16 weeks and then Macarena for 14 weeks.

Not even a week ago it was just about flatlining on radio. Right now it's actually getting some momentum back so it's a bit soon to count it out just yet.

Have always been fascinated how different the 80s charts would have been if they had Soundscan and BDS a few years earlier. I am convinced that huge sales for songs like "You Gotta Fight for your right to Party" or "Bust a Move" would have sent those songs to #1. And with an average of about 12 #1 songs a year (as opposed to 28), there would have been some major shakeups. Michael Jackson all year?Or maybe significantly less…there have long been those heavy payola accusations during the Bad era, particularly towards "Dirty Diana". But at any rate you're right, it would be fascinating to see what the Hot 100 would have looked like then with Soundscan/BDS.

Yes I was having an aneurysm with the Black eyed peas and Outkast , Thrift shop, Macarena, even back in the day with One sweet day. I really liked the charts back in 1987 thru 1990 which i have stated before. Large turnovers of #1's and songs left the chart after 16 weeks or less. If a song had over 16 weeks it was like (WTF)..I think 4 months if long enough to hear and see the same songs ..move on to the next release. Its cool and all Radioactive , I'm yours , Sail and such others made record lasting history, but really I moved on from all those songs in less than 5 months. Its great to hear those songs a few years later once in a while. Yet everyday 6 , or 7 times a day maybe more after a year is painful.
