NO. Hell NO! Not even close. Boring sappy records that don't sell that much spending weeks on end at #1 because of airplay forced upon consumers by corporate radio. How do you have 260million in audience and never reach #1 in sales EVER. Radio airplay was mismatched against actual consumer interest in the record.

yes, WBT and OSD had massive airplay (primary reason they were #1 so long) but there's no way today they'd be #1 that many weeks. Very simply, due to the way the charts work now (primarily because of downloded (not physical) single sales, streaming and mostly 'cause radio isn't *at all* as powerful a force it was back then). Motolla/Sony clearly was masterminds to the max for their time in milking the system w/ a lot, if not most of Mariahs singles. Yes, many def.sold well but it's more than well known that a lot of her songs and albums were over-certified (compared to the actual sales). Anyways, thrilled to see Katy and Pharrell still making major gains. Obviously its all about the two of them duking it out for the next #1 the several weeks/months

Um, the album was the year's top seller. Mimi sold 100k a week for the entire summer that WBT was #1 - WAY more than what the #1 digital single that week was selling.

As of June 21, 2013, "We Belong Together" has sold 1.628 digital downloads. That ranks among the top 5 best-sellers released that year.

there's no denying that Sony was the most aggressive marketer in terms of discounting singles and such in the 90s/early 2000s. It played the singles game better than any other label. But, that's here nor there to the present.

From the last set of digital singles I saw, these were the 2005 singles listed: Gold Digger, My Humps, Hollaback Girl, Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, Dirty Little Secret, Ridin', Shake That, Check On It, Dance, Dance, You're Beautiful, Hung Up, We Belong Together, How To Save a Life, Lips of an Angel, Don't Cha.

A lot of those were big singles in 2006. Maybe there were some tracks that weren't included in that original list. I haven't seen it since 2011.
