Yeah her last new top 40 hit was the 2x platinum "#Beautiful" back in 2013. She'd had other songs make the Hot 100 since then, and of course "AIWFCIY" has returned to the top 40 a bunch, but nothing new has hit the top 40. Crazy.

The original version of "yes and?" is out of the top 20 on the Hot 100, so in theory the remix won't need to do a ton to replace it. I think if it did what the "Big Energy" remix did week 1, it would be enough; the original "Big Energy" was much higher on the Hot 100 at that time.

Apparently on her lead single if it's true. But the Grammy , residency, Remix were predicted ahead of time.

While I do think she wants a 20th #1, I would think she and her team know there is a much clearer path to try for it than hopping on the remix to a song that had people divided. I mean collaborating with Drake, Cardi B, or even Megan for a single on their album would be much more obvious and easier route. Hell, even getting a credit on Ariana’s follow up single would be a better way to do it. This remix would need to sound like an entirely new song, and it might, to convince people.

Regarding the initial iciness around the Mariah/Ariana interactions... I've always felt one of the things that has bugged Mariah throughout the duration of her career has been people trying to say someone is "the next Mariah." It's a bit of a kick in gonads to her because from her perspective it's like, "Hello?! I'm still here!" I'm old enough to remember when Jennifer Paige, who was a one-hit wonder with the song "Crush" in like 1996, was getting press as the "new Mariah."

Then you had people like Leona Lewis come along later and the comparisons were there again. It's happened a lot over the years, and a lot of those singers came and went. I think once Mariah recognized that Ari had some staying power and wasn't a flash in the pan like some of these other girls in the past, she changed her tune. And who knows maybe there was a mutual friend or associate of theirs behind the scenes who told her how much Ari loved her. That's my theory, anyway.

I think it helped that Ariana switched up her style and sound as well, so that she's not mimicking Mariah. Mariah's always had respect for artists who forged their own paths, and I think that's the case here as well.

Well keep in mind this remix was probably in the works before the single kind of tanked. Once the plan was in place, it was probably hard to reverse. Now they might as well go all in. In a way it works out better because it will be much easier to get Mariah chart credit now than if the song was an actual hit on its own (like we saw with "Big Energy" where the original was too popular for the remix to take over). It may not get #1, but even just adding another top 40 hit or whatever to Mariah's chart history is nice.

The other thing that works to Mariah’s benefit is that Ariana actually has a massive fan base unlike her past collaborators on “Unforgettable” and “Big Energy” remixes lol. It will be interesting to see numbers for the physicals. My 2 shipped today. 🤭

But in all seriousness, I was not expecting full-voiced Mariah vocals and belts or her singing the higher parts! After Ari's whisper singing on the original, I was expecting more of the same.

AND it sounds soooooooooooooooo good to hear Mariah on club music again. It's been 10 years since we got any dance music or remixes from her.

Nope. Unintentional comedy. Mariah's verse doesn't even make sense and doesn't properly flow or rhyme. Her ad-libs are also...off. They really should have done something new.

Hmmm…I need a few more listens. I wish they would have just traded parts in the pre chorus. MC is over singing and it sounds rough against Ariana which is weird because she’s a master of control. I would have kept things quiet and popped off at the end, which sounds excellent and gives me 90s MC club mix nostalgia - i mean this single is a direct reference to that sound. i also would have extended it, put in a BG singers maybe a choir, and turned the track up to a real club mix.
