Is it all that random to bring up 9/11 while performing in NYC in the month of September, especially at a charity concert? I think delivery makes all the difference, the way she said it came off abrupt and straight up weird Yeah everyone near me in the crowd was just like… ummm excuse me? That being said, she sounded and looked amazing for the show. I’m so happy I was able to see her live. Loved the Honey/Heartbreaker mashup.

I’m fine with that LA Reid has good album sensibilities.

Yeeeesss, this is so random, but I *knew* when I saw you had posted that it was an RIAA update! Very happy about this. She's putting some distance between her and Babs now and I believe is the only woman with 5 7x platinum albums (and #1s could have gotten there, too, but I digress). Also, every studio album she released in the first 20 years of her career is now platinum (15 total). We love to see it!

Yes, she has put a bit of distance, but also Streisand is only behind because the RIAA isn't counting A Star is Born toward her stats. Anyway, the top 5 women in terms of RIAA album certs: 1. Mariah - 71 million 2. Barbra - 68.5 million (72.5 million if they added ASIB) 3. Madonna - 64.5 million 4. Whitney Houston - 60 million 5. Celine Dion - 51 million

Ah, interesting. Well, 'Merry Christmas' will likely continue to get multiple updates, but Babs probz has undercertified albums, etc., so it remains highly competitive. Either way, Barbra isn't a bad person to be jockeying for first with.

Either way, Barbra isn't a bad person to be jockeying for first with. Yeah Merry Christmas should get 9x platinum this year, and Merry Christmas II You should move to platinum. That would get her to 72.5 million to unofficially tie Streisand (I don't see the RIAA ever counting her duet album on the tallies page; they also don't count some of Mariah's duets on the singles tallies page). Of course what we'd all like to see is for the debut to finally hit Diamond.

It's kinda sad that an album like E=MC², which followed up a huge album, couldn't even get to 2X. :(

It's kinda sad that an album like E=MC², which followed up a huge album, couldn't even get to 2X. :( It was definitely a bit of a flop, but that gets overlooked since it and its lead single went to #1. Having said that, it has to be next 2x platinum. It had Soundscan sales of 1.3 million, and with its certified singles being 4.5 million and then something like "Migrate" having decent digital sales, I'd think its SPS total would have it near 2 million by now. I just want to point out for everyone that Unplugged is 4x platinum as an EP, so in terms of her RIAA total it counts as 2 million.

If only #1's could get to 6x platinum, she'd have platinum certifications at every number from 1 to 11. Oddly satisfying lol.

Celine Dion - 51 million It's harder to rank by singles because the RIAA doesn't count duets and such on their list. Plus women who came about in the streaming era obviously have a huge advantage when it comes to singles certs. So, I just ranked some of the 80s and 90s divas by their singles certs (but might have missed a duet or two): Mariah - 61 million Whitney - 37.5 million Madonna - 18.5 million (she is in need of some updates) Christina Aguilera - 16.5 million Janet Jackson - 13 million Britney Spears - 8 million (she is in need of some big updates) Celine - 7.5 million ("My Heart Will Go On" needs a big update)

Pitchfork ranks Fantasy as the #1 best song of the 90’s She is finally getting flowers from critics. By the way, "Always Be My Baby" is at #49 on this list.

Obvi Mariah deserves this 100%, but I'm also pleasantly surprised by how many women, pop songs, etc. are on here. Did we just fire all the old straight white male critics? Because a top 40 that includes Cher, Britney, TLC, Destiny's Child is A-OK with me. Not to mention two each from Fiona, Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah, although those women usually get some level of critical love already.
