Great! Just what she needs. A washed up rapper. Is she doing some kind of throwback album??

Will this be a digital-only album?? If she's still recording, how long does it take to finish production of the songs, all artwork for the booklet, print it, manufacture the CDs and distribute them all around the world? Is a month enough?? Maybe everything's done and she's just working on mixes or bsides...

Didn't Beyoncé get her physical album out in like ten days? It shouldn't take more than a month, really.

Great! Just what she needs. A washed up rapper. Is she doing some kind of throwback album?? Well, she doesn't often choose the best rappers, though she usually chooses of-the-moment ones instead of washed up ones. Weird. Didn't Beyoncé get her physical album out in like ten days? It shouldn't take more than a month, really. Mariah isn't Beyonce, for one. No offense, but Beyonce has more clout (and probably a bigger budget) right now. It likely costs more to rush manufacturing. But we're still a month out. The label probably needs the album 2-3 weeks ahead of release. I think the issue would be more that promotional things are being delayed because of this late recording; they likely haven't put up a pre-order on iTunes because of the lack of a title, tracklisting, etc. That stuff would affect picking future singles, too.

I think it's obvious Mariah is doing what Mariah wants to do at this point and is not concerned with who's "washed up" or whether her music is in line with trends or not. This project is probably going to be a rough reality check for some fans.

I'm used to Mariah being capricious as of late so it won't be a rough reality check for me in the least bit, especially since I have been very vocal about liking Memoirs more than the majority of her "classic" material (i.e. Daydream, Butterfly, etc.) That said, it doesn't mean I have to like the fact that she is working with Fabolous. I also don't like Wale - never have. Maybe Mariah is in the studio with Ja Rule and Lil Kim too. At this point, I wouldn't put ANYTHING past her. All I need at this point is the album or at least other songs that will be on it so I can judge whether or not it scratches my Mariah itch.

Well May 6 is just around the corner, I guess I'll unleash my frustrations then....if the album is not of my liking(which would be a first, since I like all of her albums).

My comment was more about Mariah, for the first time, doing whatever she wants regardless of commercial appeal. This album seems like it's going to be a major career transition. She's been working on this material forever, and it seems that the obsessing is more about the mixing and vocal layers than obsessing over hit potential. Mariah is also not stupid and clearly knows she's doing almost no promotion. I don't think being a chart smashing pop star is front and center on her list of priorities anymore.

So, maybe You're Mine aside, this could be her best album. If I were judging Memoirs by its lead single, it would be one of my least favorite Mariah albums instead of my favorite, so I remain hopeful.

It's going to be so interesting and entertaining to read all our comments month and a half from now. :) We'll then know how good the album is or will at least have a very vague date range in late 2014 for the potential release....
For sure things are just too quiet. Too much mystery, but with the bad vibe around it. I just hope she's not as dilusional as thinking she has the power, fan base and cool factor needed to pull a Beyoncé.

I always give Mariah a shot. She always has at least 3-4 songs on an album that I enjoy. The thing that grates my nerves with her is her use of social media or lack of using it effectively. It reminds me of her rambling voice mails back in the day to fans. It gives her the appearance of being flighty ala her Glitter appearance days.

And she could be doing what she wants, in part, because she realizes that, no matter what you do, you can't be one of the hottest things on the scene once you've been in the business, and as successful as she's been, for so long.
I'm just hoping for an album I enjoy more than the material on Memoirs. I've liked the past five singles more than most of that album, so that's a good sign.

Rush manufacturing does cost a lot more but as long as the album artwork and booklet design are in place and the album is mixed/mastered (which will be the trigger since she's STILL recording), they can press the album up and get it delivered in a week or two. I doubt her label wants to invest any more money than they absolutely have to into this project but the May 6th date ain't being moved and Mariah is going to play her diva card up until the last possible second.

She can make whatever music she wants. She's definitely earned that right. But, that doesn't mean it's what anyone wants to hear from her. Why make (moreso, release) music that the public doesn't want to hear? There's a reason indie, coffe shop singer-songwriters are where they are.

It's only a month and 2 days from street date. We should have an overflow of information right now. Album covers; track listings; album title, the whole nine. But THIS situation? Nothing but radio silence. If there is no news in the next week, we're all gonna revert back to listing our favorite songs off Rainbow and then I'll have to scratch my own eyes out.

None of us even know what she is recording. At this point, she could be recording remixes that are irrelevant to the actual album release date or working with other artists for their albums.

Also, unlike the Beyonce album, which needed a ton of physical copies (plus DVD) during the height of holiday season, this release will be a standard disc with far few physical copies needed. As long as the music is good.... They will get it out on May 6 because Mother's Day is Sunday and that's usually a good week for sales, especially from "established" artists.

I actually love Fabolous, so I'm not mad about this one bit. Give me a hot "You Be Killin' Em" type of jam.

We all evolve and change is good.

That is possible for sure, but one of her tweets mentioned how she was then working on a "different track" which implies she was working on multiple songs (i.e. not a remix).

It's interesting just how out of touch she has been recently with contemporary Urban music when she used to go on and on about how she would always be listening to New York Urban radio.
It's not completely surprising I suppose, but it does explain why she released a song like You're Mine.

It's not completely surprising I suppose, but it does explain why she released a song like You're Mine. In one interview, she even said she loved the remix because it has a "futuristic" sound. If that doesn't scream "out of touch", I don't know what does.
