Possible delay again? Oh Mariah, please don't blame me if I download your album for free.

If you are a TRUE fan, you will buy the album no matter when it's released.

If you are a TRUE fan, you will buy the album no matter when it's released. I think Mariah is trying everyone's patience, so responses like spooky's are to be expected, and I can't say she doesn't deserve those types of responses. I am at about my limit with her.

Guys, May 6th is the only date we got since the original pushback of last July. It's not like she keeps changing the date over and over. It was July 23rd, then she thought she wanted more time to work on it and now it's May 6th, period. Enjoy the album!

I don't think it is just the date, but the non-events and lack of information that is frustrating everyone. Not to mention the underwhelming feeling The Art of Letting Go and You're Mine left with most people. I can tell you I am not here for an album full of You're Mine's and Art of Letting Go's. They were nice background songs for like 2 seconds. If she made me wait basically a year for that, then yeah, I will lose my patience with her. If you are going to delay an album, then whatever you delayed it for better be spot on and worth it.

We're not gonna talk about the possibility (or, I guess the reality if I read into this correctly) of the vocal cord surgery? Why now? It already seemed so risky, but right before the album release? Is she re-recording all of the old tracks with new vocals? It would make sense, considering we keep talking about how the confirmed tracks are all from 2012, yet she's still working on them. I wonder if it would have affected her whistle register or her ability to switch back and forth between registers in any way. I'm super excited and happy for her if she did it and it worked out for her. This would hopefully mean more consistent and live performances.
SN: it's funny to see how many of you all are on the other boards, we're like scavengers scouring for anything we can find on the status of this album.

She definitely should go for thar surgery if she has not. Before, it sounds like all her songs are really high quality because of how great her voice was but since that has deteriorated, it certainly has affected the quality of her songs

She has had to work with what she has and a deteriorating voice but, in my opinion, she has done a pretty good job. With Mariah, it's always been a balance for me. Sometimes, it's not about her voice, but the craft of the song (i.e. We Belong Together, Shake It Off, #Beautiful, to name a few) and other times it's all about the voice and passion (TAOLG, Stay The Night, I Feel It, If It's Over, And You Don't Remember, Just To Hold You Once Again, to name a few). I would love to see what she sounds like post surgery but of course, this is all speculation, as no one here knows for sure.

I thought that weight gain comment was referring to steroids, not surgery.

I actually find her songwriting (very lazy and haphazard) and the production (uninspired/dates quickly) are what are dragging down her song's quality as of late. I hate when she works with decent producers like Rodney, and they give her production that dates very quickly/goes stale.

I love that video! Flawless, funny, Mariah looked incredible. Anyhow, I was reading comments on UKMix and came across this comment from goldsoundz: goldsoundz wrote: "Please stop talking about her weight. She's a strong woman, but enough is enough. It has nothing to do with her exercise regime, diet, or sleeping habits. The album will sound much better because of the root cause, and it will come off in no time." Hmmmmmmm.......interesting. Why are we posting/discussing what he says?

YASSSS to both of those! I agree about that "Butterfly" video, too. She looked like she needed a good hot bath with some Dial soap. For one, wasn't that sort of the point? Her character was a kept, child-like person (based on Baby Doll). For another, this sort of discussion is exactly why so many women have body image issues and why Mariah seems more worried these days about her outfits and her posing in live performances than her actual vocals and performance. I actually find her songwriting (very lazy and haphazard) and the production (uninspired/dates quickly) are what are dragging down her song's quality as of late. I hate when she works with decent producers like Rodney, and they give her production that dates very quickly/goes stale. It's not about what they "give" her, it's about what she accepts. Or more so, it's probably about what she wants. For one, pretty much every producer who works with her talks about how involved she in the process. For another, when you think of who all she has worked with and how different their work for her is, Mariah is the common denominator. It's clear to me that at this point she just loves a mid-tempo R&B song and that is mostly what she wants to record. I don't know why she won't get out of that box (though "#Beautiful" was a lovely surprise), but it's clearly on her and not about her co-producers.

It is obvious that she weighs down her own production, but the more no people you get who rope her in the better. So in that sense, I blame them for not asserting themselves. I get she is her own worst enemy, but she is that way because people kiss her ass and don't have the cajones to tell her how terrible her ideas can be at times. Mariah for the most part is great at the conceptualizing portion of her job, but the execution portion of her job not so much.

the sudden weight gain due to steroids would make sense. it happened when she was trying to get pregnant around MCIIY and look how her voice sounded then! I would be here if they tried some procedures to help her regain her old voice. Although prolonged steroid use is bad for the heart and could ultimately cut her life short...

Since this thread has turned kind of into the Mariah nostalgia thread (and don't blame anybody... there's really not much to talk about anyway), perhaps we can start talking first week POSITION and SALES prediction. I got the list below from Metracritic. I didn't even know Chris Brown was releasing supposedly an album on the 5th. My understanding was that Lil Wayne is not releasing on the 5th anymore so that list may need some updating. Do you guys see any heavy weights on the list that could steals the spotlight away from Mariah that day/week?? Asking because sometimes there are names in hip hop and country that I've never heard of and end up opening with BIG first weeks. Maybe nobody on this list would be yet serious competition to the Frozen soundtrack?

Hunter's debut went platinum, so I would definitely be on the lookout for how he will perform with the follow-up. And yeah, Frozen will probably still be going strong. Even without that though, Mariah's issue is not that someone else might 'steal her thunder.' Like, if somehow Mariah got a #1 with I don't know, 75k, do you think she would get props for that #1? No, there'd be shade and hurt feefees because she 'only' did 75k. I'll be kind of really sad if it turns out I was being overly kind with that 75k estimate but at the rate the lack of news is going...I'm not sure. Honestly that is why I hope they go ahead and release it b/c it just won't make a difference in what she sells unless they are REALLY about to regroup with a big media/promo blitz. That doesn't seem likely. Mariah has ticked off a lot of her fans and she deserves to be called out for that, but idc, I'm still here for this album, whenever it does finally arrive. *shrug*

Well damn...not sure why you are coming for me, but I don't think I said anything about MC's body image or anything sexist for that matter. I was referring to dirt. I would've said the same thing if were Usher or Justin Timberlake in the video. Anyway, I usually enjoy reading your paragraphs but please stop dissecting people's posts. Perhaps I just didn't care for the video, even if it fit the story. That's my opinion. Mariah is my #1, don't get it twisted. Please Mimi release something soon before I pull my locs out!

So can a Mariah fan please clarify for me how she writes and produces songs. Does she play any instruments or know how to operate all the production computers and consoles? Or is it more like she comes up with a melody in her head, sings it to a musician or producer and somehow directs this person until the song sounds just like she imagined her in her head? Or is it more like lyrics writer? Asking since she's always struggled to be validated as a writer and producer and not only singer. Thanks!

She could be on steroids now...I have thought that she was on them before as well...I remember her body being pretty on-point for the Adventures of Mimi Tour, and she definitely got thicker during that tour, which was probably noticeable mostly because of the skimpy outfits with the cutouts etc...I think regardless of her weight some of those costumes were not flattering. Then she was super thin during the E=MC era, and she seemed to be having a lot of trouble vocally. So I think she has gone down the steroid/prednisone route before. It does also weaken bones, causing breaks more easily...not that a fall would not break an arm/dislocate a shoulder.

Please, Mariah has never struggled to be validated as a songwriter.
Since VOL was first played on the radio, Mariah was promoted as singer/songwriter.

For some reason, "singer-songwriter" is a phrase more popular when describing acts who are more rock/acoustic-based. But, yeah, acts who have a hand in composing their music and singing it would be singer-songwriters. Captain Obvious, signing off. Wasn't 4-23 thrown out as a date for something?
