Since Mariah recorded a movie soundtrack song that was primarily written without her too bad she didn't do "Let It Go" (Demi Lavato) for Frozen instead of Almost Home. Then she could've put it on her new album and she could've cross promoted the song with her project. It would've been perfect for getting the young kids back interested in her music and the parents too. Then she could've hit them with her mature R&B album at the same time. Make them all fans. It's not anymore "pop" then Almost Home. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHue-HaXXzg

I feel like at this point they've both reached a point where they just want the project out there even if it means throwing it on iTunes randomly. The project will probably be long dead by the time summer is over and will also probably be the end of her relationship with Island/Def Jam. If she goes somewhere else immediately, I'd expect them to rush her into putting out new material. They're not going to sign her and wait until she's 50 to put out a new album. I think at this point she is just trying to do an album that she likes even if it is set to more than likely fail. I feel like she is already prepping for a new album to follow this one and has a general notion of where she wants to end up label wise. I think that is why JD is managing because she kind of knows no matter what her back is against the wall with this album, so no point in hiring a decent manager at this stage just get through this last album of her contract.

I think the problem with Mariah is she gets caught up in who she is and makes music that caters to the notion of who she is rather than just make music with no pretenses.

Ehhh... if it were up to Mariah, I'm sure she'd still be recording.. Hahahaha, I am sure. If we were guaranteed a new song or two every month then, I would say go for it! Actually, I would love that even more than her releasing an album at this point just release like a song or two every month for the rest of her life !

Almost Home became one of my favourite Mariah songs!! It's so diferente from what she's been doing since 1867, it's fresh and emotional. Let It Go would have been perfect for her as well. I truly think Mariah Carey is a musical genius, very underrated at her own fault. She could do so many things, yet she's stuck with lame R 'n B and insert-random-rapper-here.

Mariah is a musical genius but lately she just seems like she's run out of inspiration. #Beautiful was a one-off it seems and I doubt it'd be as fresh without Miguel's involvement. :/

We don't know how inspired the album is yet until we hear it. There could be #B level inspiration on many of the tracks. She's SANGING those songs from all the reports we've heard so far.
As for "Let it Go" I think it would've been a great movie soundtrack to be on, espcecially this close to her album release. And the theme continues what she started with TAOLG. I feel like if she was managed better all of this would've come together much more tightly.

I don't know what Mariah is gunning for with this album, but she seems genuine about wanting to deliver great music this era. I think she is more focused on that over management issues. It really does seem like her last album with her label if you listen to her ET Canada interview. The problem for Mariah is she needs to work with people who get her as an artist and person. Those people also have to be strong, focused and driven to succeed as well. L.A. Reid is a great example as he understood her as an artist and encouraged her, yet he also told her when things weren't the way they should be. In other words, he was nurturing, but he also told Mariah when her sh*t stunk.

Disney obviously wanted to go the real-young route for the "pop" version of "Let It Go," so I don't think Mimi would have been in contention for that one.
As far as this album, I'm not sure Mimi's actions (or lack thereof) with the album process has anything to do with giving the label the "satisfaction" of setting the album up- the label put a lot into #Beautiful," and she scored a top 20 hit. And, it touted "You're Mine" upon its release (just as it did with "Triumphant"). It's probably quite frustrated with how this project has been going.
Mimi, though, seems excited about the album, and into it, so if it's a personal win for her and she feels good about it, that's what's important. And hopefully fans enjoy it.

Was anything ever figured out with the first week of digital sales for "Betha Gon Know" and Memoirs? I still think iTunes or someone messed that up. There is still no logical reason I can think of for the song to have made Digital Songs for two weeks other than sales for the album somehow getting counted for the track.

The one thing that actually does disturb me silence wise isn't silence about the album now that it is finished, but lack of talk about a single to launch this album.

Yeah, that song netted about some 70,000 sales, so Memoirs would be past 600k if that is the case.

But yeah, "Let It Go" is even worse.

It was some sort of error. I think Memoirs should have been #1. BUT, someone posted at FOMM that Mariah or her label knew about it and supposedly checked the sales.

iTunes is always screwing her. I have a theory about it that I will not share because it does sound a little far-fetched but could totally be plausible.

And, really, having a #1 album nets positive press regardless of the ultimate sales total. Memoirs has sold better overall than some other major releases that went to #1, but people see Memoirs as a flop because it didn't debut as high.

I finally watched Frozen, and I am shocked the soundtrack is selling so well. To me the only memorable song in the movie is "Do You Want To Build A Snowman." I also think "Let It Go" is used awkwardly in the film. Elsa is singing an empowerment anthem as she runs away from a town to live in exile. Um, what? It would make more sense if she sang it towards the end. I like "Almost Home," too, especially the end. If it had actually been used in the film (or even appeared at the start of the end credits) and then been actively promoted, it could have done ok.

Almost Home is a jam, and any negative talk regarding its quality is pure tomfoolery.

The thing with "Betcha" may have been a snafu, but it's not likely that they were supposed to be sales of Memoirs. At this point, I doubt anyone really knows what happened there. For what it's worth, Big Jim Wright on Twitter: BIG JIM WRIGHT @bigjimwright @trijws3 here's the secret, Mariah Carey album is a work of true artistry. I'm blessed to play a part on her musical stamp on history. BIG JIM WRIGHT @bigjimwright @daveybaby87 @trijws3 I love Mariah Carey as much as you lambs do. BIG JIM WRIGHT @bigjimwright @dishinwitjojo: @bigjimwright is it stil coming the day she said? That's all we want to know!”~ I think it is.
