As I listen to this song, I am recognizing a song that is similar... Particularly during the the chorus... it sounds like a different song that I cannot think of. "You thirsty for a drink, leaving me drowning" and the other line that follows the same notes... It sounds so familiar and I cannot think of from where!!?
Got it! "Nah" by Shania Twain. Does anyone else hear the similarities? They are such different songs, but there's a similar note and chord progression during their respective choruses.

I love Mariah, but that picture . The hair and face are giving me drag queen vibes and not in the I am gonna slay you way. She looks like she is about to morph into LaToya Jackson.

A small part of the melody of "Heartbreaker" is like "Dreamlover" (and, really, who cares about 1 line sounding similar?), and then the bassline of "Heartbreaker" is very similar to "Fantasy." So, it's sort of a mash-up of the two. But it's still insanely catchy, and it has a b-section which the other two songs lack, as well as a rap verse (and one that acts as a counter view to Mariah's lyrics), so it still ends up being its own song. Meanwhile, I need to go give "Thirsty" a listen. There is a HQ version, right? iamstevieb.tumblr.com/post/85627419909/mariah-carey-thirstyThanks for the link! On first listen the production definitely gives me a "Ni**as in Paris" vibe, which is fine by me because I love that track. It adds a bit more of a carnival (?) or something feel, though, and has its own vibe. I can view a sinister clown, which is perfect for Nicki shade  The b-section is nice, though I am not sure yet that I love the harmonies there (they could be tighter, but I'm sure it will grown on me). The hook that follows it is nicely staccato, which makes it hit hard. I am thankful to have a real bridge, especially with the way the music drops out and it's about the wall of vocals; that might be my favorite part of the song. I am ready for a true HQ version where I also listen with headphones, because it sounds like there are elements to the production I missed. Of course, more listens in general will reveal them. They could do a play on the lyrics and go for a real All About Eve vibe.

First off TOLD YOU SO to all the ones who were bashing Mariah, and me for defending her.
I knew she had a hit lead single in her hands all along. It makes sense now, don't put it up on vevo, spotify and iTunes til the week the album drops or the week before, she wouldn't get this much publicity since TEOM. Then she'll have the #1 album and # 1 single on billboard in the same week. Oh she's so f**king brilliant I love her.

I knew she had a hit lead single in her hands all along "Thirsty" is not the lead single. Then she'll have the #1 album and # 1 single on billboard in the same week. I am optimistic regarding "Thirsty" but this is extremely unlikely. I would never say "impossible," but...

I don't have a problem with that, jeng- I quite enjoy "Emotions," "Dreamlover" and "Fantasy"; "Heartbreaker" and "Loverboy" not as much. And it's been some time since I "pointed" it out. :) I only did here as it was under discussion.
Just listened to the full "Thirsty." I like some parts, but I'm not crazy on the "Uh, you're thirsty" bit. The singing bits are better, but there are times (like during the bridge) where there's too much in the way of vocals going on. And do some really see this as an "urban banger"? While I don't like it all that much, I'd put something like "Turn Down For What" in that category.
Of the singles thus far, "#Beautiful" remains the best for me.

From #Beautiful to Thirsty, the singles have been gradually getting better and I enjoyed #Beautiful though not as much as the majority.

Well, considering the 3 songs off the album that we have (and 4 if you include "TAOLG"), it's clear this will be a diverse album as none of the released tracks sound alike. The breezy, Motown update "#Beautiful" is still my favorite, but I think "Thirsty" will easily slide into second place. I don't have a problem with that, jeng- I quite enjoy "Emotions," "Dreamlover" and "Fantasy"; "Heartbreaker" and "Loverboy" not as much. And it's been some time since I "pointed" it out. :) I only did here as it was under discussion. In discussions about gospel artists, do you make a point to state all of their songs are about God?

I love #B (although wish it was longer and more Mariah), the Art of Letting Go is fantastic I don't care what anyone says... maybe it's not radio material but it's great for what it's intended purpose was. You're Mine is cute but it's one of the more disappointing of the tracks. It's good though. And Thirsty is HOT and catchy.

My only complaint is I wish the vocals weren't so muddled in parts. I hope there is a much higher quality version of the song coming.

She kept it simple for the basic bitches in the club. Ya Thirsty will be the sang from the fire escapes in Harlem and Brooklyn to the barrios in Texas to San Juan, Puerto Rico. She served me proper with this urban festive banger.

I wish that face were forgettable. OMG. I almost spat my chai all over my screen. MESS. You see that screenname of hers, right? NO Apologies, NO Fucks given, etc. Anyway, after some serious struggles with WiFi (which is resulting in me packing up and moving to the Westin...nothing stands between me and a Mariah premiere) and no links opening on my work Blackberry, I FINALLY heard Thirsty this morning. It's definitely a Paris retread but...it works for her. I don't care about that random rapper in the remix and if I never have to hear him again, I would be OK with it, but I LOVE the album version, down to the campy opening and ending. Y'all KNOW she made this song drunk AF. Oh...and if she says it's not about Nick, she's LYING. As for selling albums, yeah, it's not that type of song, but neither was Migraine and how many people were slobbering all over that p.o.s. and begging for it to be a single. At least she has released a contemporary urban banger prior to the album. Great job, Mariah. Why she gon sit on 'Thirsty' like that for this long tho? I'm guessing she was going for the shock and awe campaign. She had to have known the heat she was sitting on.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what that comment made from whoever made it originally. Nothing about this song sounds explicitly "gay" to me. All kinds of people stay thisty.

So, we can add a new grouping of songs to the list we had going.
Ratchet jams "Did I Do That" "Heat" "Betcha Gon Know" (?) "Thirsty"

Why do I have a feeling JD is pulling what he pulled with "The Art of Letting Go"? So far it seems like this entire premiere was engineered by him without label backing. ...and just got word an "official single" impacts next month.
