She mentions Instagram in this track- prior, there was YouTube, # in the title of a single, going to your contacts and pressing delete- any other references to social media/technology?

When that champagne sample and You know you know you Thirsty you Thirsty! vocal drops the dance-floor will be filled with ratchets immediately. It's a bird call just like Ball so hard motherf#ckers tryna find me.

So, we can add a new grouping of songs to the list we had going. Ratchet jams"Did I Do That" "Heat" "Betcha Gon Know" (?) "Thirsty" Obsessed! I was just coming here to add that one! Thanks! She mentions Instagram in this track- prior, there was YouTube, # in the title of a single, going to your contacts and pressing delete- any other references to social media/technology? I think you could include "Shake It Off" since it's a break-up over voice mail. Does "Get Your Number" have any references like you mean? There are plenty of technology references in the b-sections.

It's a bird call just like Ball so hard motherf#ckers tryna find me.Fine, you mean. But yeah, people will drop whatever they are doing and scurry to the dancefloor and bop away to this new ratchet classic. Since I know this album will have some serious, deep cuts, I'm glad Mariah is adding some spice and flava to the mix. This song has me doing shoulder shrugs and bopping up and down in my seat like I have jock itch.

Doesn't look like "Get Your Number" has any.
"Obsessed" mentions blogs, so that's another one. :)

Why do I have a feeling JD is pulling what he pulled with "The Art of Letting Go"? So far it seems like this entire premiere was engineered by him without label backing. ...and just got word an "official single" impacts next month. UGH. Why. Why are they doing this? Thirsty has the potential to do well and waiting any longer for the next (probably a different song) single is not going to be good for the album! EDIT: Maybe they did this because they could hype up the release and boost the pre-orders? If so, then it definitely worked. Mariah got us thirsty. But if they choose to release a different song as a single, especially a ballad instead of Thirsty or other up tempos then I'd be done.

It's OK. Radio could latch onto this and make it a smash, "official single" or not. Hot is hot and if they want to play it, they will. If not, it just continues to support the fact that radio sucks. I gotta try not to wear this out before the album comes out. That SINternet quality is so perfect and brings so much life out of that song it's not even funny. I'm guessing the Kendrick sample is the male "boss" echo in the background. If she added that, she has an even keener ear that I ever realized.

Why on earth would they want to wait until next month to release a new single? It just doesn't make any sense because "Thirsty" is pretty radio-friendly.

"Obsessed" was a fairly similar song and generated (what some would consider) surprisingly low sales. This is the kind of song people may bop to on Urban radio, but it's not going to get older audiences (the people who will actually buy her albums at this point) interested. It'll probably do the opposite. The boost to #40 or so on iTunes in pre-orders may have been nice, but is it really enough to suggest this song is going to shift a significant number of albums? It seems like their plan at this point is to have a bunch of different styles of songs heard before the album is out.

She is starting to drive me crazy with this its a single, no its an impact single. Stop it! Pick a gahtdamn song, and promote it and make it a hit. The only thing I am happy about with this news is I am spared the cheap and tacky video that would have accompanied this. I wanna strangle her! Why would you say this is an impact single? You might need this song down the road. Use something else for an album preview that is not necessarily radio ready, but grabs a bulk of your audience for album sales.

Terrible song. Sounds like some random trash from a Lil' Jon record ca. 2003 .

I mean, what promotion did the song really have other than premiering in a weird version on 1 radio station? It didn't premiere all over the country. It also wasn't performed or even announced on a major platform. So, really, it wasn't much of a release. The iTunes bump likely came more than the presence of the banner on the main page. Where are people getting the info that this isn't a single, though?

Does she really say: Best thing that happened to your d!ck was me. That is what I am hearing. I need an explicit version. If that is the case, that might be my favorite Mariah line.

This is her catchiest first single since It's Like That! I love that one part in the (bridge?) where she giggles and continue singing. This has gotten a lot of good press, I hope that they are sticking with Thirsty as 'single' leading to the album release. I don't mind waiting for the iTunes version till next week! Get that radio airplay Mariah!

Love seeing the haters come into the thread, seething to say they don't like THIRSTY. they're soooo thirsty. you're just mad cause you all got scalped by the elusive chanteuse.
I love how bitchy and scary the song gets at the end, really hope there's a strategy behind this single. Someone needs to express to JD that we LOVE it. Lyrics video pleeease.

With the word of the day amongst the youts being so wholeheartedly embraced and used to the max in the chorus (I mean, it IS the chorus, for Gawd's sake), this should do at LEAST as well as Obsessed. If not...cue the ageism comments.

In a perfect world (we see you Keri), this would do just as well as obsessed (or even better) but I just cannot see that happening this time. And no, not because of her age. I just feel like in 2009, pop radio was far more receptive to more urban leaning music and I would go as far as to say that pop radio seemed more receptive to women of color back then too. If this is a top 20 hit for her, I'll be satisfied but when fucking Beyonce of all people is not flying up the charts at pop with R&B crossovers, it's not likely that Mariah will be any different.

Solid album track. Don't think it's single material. Love the bridge and the ending.

Listening to First Love by JLo right now and thinking, even though it's produced by a pop producer, I feel like it's something Mariah could have tackled without losing too much credibility and she would have sounded really good singing it. If she is going to tackle pop at all, it should be a song like this.

One of the worst songs she's ever recorded. This sound does nothing for her voice.

Basically Thirsty is just a tool to boost album sales, the track has been serviced to Urban and Rhythmic stations, but Def Jam has made it very clear this is NOT the new single, just so-called "Focus Track". They will announce the official new single right after album release.

That's cool I guess. If it takes off on its own, as I mentioned before, it could still be a decent hit. Hopefully, this means they have something even stronger in store for radio, if that's possible, that's gonna make radio jump all over it. I will still use Thirsty though, so thanks Mariah for the heat.

This sounds nothing like an Album track lmao.
This is single throu and throu.
I just need a hot video with a unique dance move that people can follow (instant viral smash) but I'm not sure Mariah can pull it off.
I mean the beat LORD... I can see a group of people twerking in the video to the beat lol

Mods please unlock my pop thread? Its obviously first single whether IDJ or Mimi want.
Like I said before I expected this to be her best lead single since its like that, boy was I right. She even got the haters thirsty and seething in their Old Navy 2/$5 flip flops.
