Not sold on it like most people here. I can see the Someday comparisons, but I don't think it's quite there. I still prefer Thirsty. That bridge and ending is Mariah at her peak.

Where did you get that from? On Facebook it just says "a new song from my upcoming album", doesnt mention single treatment... As far as YDKWTD im officially slayed and have my hopes up regarding this album. I dont remember the last time I was this happy with Mariah, she seems to be really willing to play her cards right this era. I dont mind the lack of background vocals since she can keep them for the live version just like it happens with MIH.

I think I like this? I'll need an HQ. Way too much going on in that radio rip. Those electronic sounding blips got me way too excited but I think they were just background noise. But she's not serving this to pop? Urban Radio is a thing.

I just heard YDKWTD and I don't really care for it. The song has way too much Wale and he sounds out of place. I would probably like the song if was just Mariah.
Edit: Ignore what I posted above YDKWTD is a jam.

Omg..so she's def. confirming Thirsty is the next single (w/ no mention of YDKW)? 8*o. I give her props for standing strong w/ what 'she' wants as an artist now versus what the masses want to hear. Many people over the years gave her super shade- thinking her only focus was on scoring safe, smash hits. Don't know if YDKW would smash, but objectively it's def. an instant hit on whatever level, safer, better song in every way. Unlike other artists who have their 'people/record company' etc..monitor feedback and online activity etc.., she def. has a huge online presence and HAS to be aware of the feedback YDK is getting. So far, seems like she's basically just ignoring it all lol. Thus far, she's pretty much been mute about YDKW (simply made a mention that it was performed on the Today show lol) but very vocal and enthusiastic about Thirsty! Gut is telling me the rumors are true about her clashing w/ IDJ esp. over whether to release YDK or Thirsty (which is why there was nothing out several weeks ago) Perhaps she's still pissed that Migrate never got released and is trying to compensate by releasing it's sister song..Thirsty ;)

It sounds like it's straight from the 90s and has a very retro feel about it and is more of a nod to her previous work, both in term of dance pop and involving rappers. Both of these songs were not made to pander to what's popular right now on the radio. Credit to her for sticking with what she thinks is good.

Mimi sure is letting everyone know her choice, huh?
Well, it's too be expected. She is responsible for de-railing her career as much as label execs have been.
"Thirsty" is basically an "Obsessed"-wannabe type song. If Obsessed didn't even make it to the top of Billboard Hip Hop chart... what are you all expecting from Thirsty? "Obsessed" success and longevity was due, in large part, to it's steady rise and top ten peak on CHR. I'm no clairvoyant, but "Thirsty" ain't headed anywhere near the top of CHR.

But I thought 'retro' (mainly 70s/early 80s disco/funk and even some 90s) was red hot again? lol The song is every bit as separate but equal to Treasure and Get Lucky (all barely a year old). Granted, the latter was from Bruno Mars who obviously is way more radio gold now than Mariah and could get way more passes (like where Mariah was in the 90s) and Daft Punk had Pharrell who has never been hotter. I think it would come down to more about radio being open to even playing Mariah. Would all be personal and political (her age, persona, amount of under-performing singles etc...) not due to lack of a quality song.

Despite there being a few disco era leaning hits in the past year or so, none have been by a female artist in her mid-40s. "Get Lucky" and "Blurred Lines" had broad enough appeal that you had frat boys playing them. Can you really see that same audience blasting "You Don't Know What To Do" at parties?

A single that performs as well as "#Beautiful" at pop radio would be good for Mimi. "You're Mine" fizzled in the mid-30s at the format, which could make it a challenge, but I wouldn't say it's impossible.
Jazzy speaks the truth in regard to the gender "discrimination," if you will.

I really try to like Thirsty, but it feels like too much is going on. Mariah surely love layers. YDWTD is indeed very gay. It could work as single if the studio version wasn't too disco and more like I'm That Chick or even SIO.

For another, how does it not fit into the trend of recent hits like Get Lucky, Treasure, Suit & Tie, and now Love Never Felt So Good? But, yeah, Mariah isn't as current as the acts who did those songs (Justin's presence is clearly helping the MJ song).

I'm a bit disappointed Mariah is going to push Thirsty as a single but I am going to respect her choice. Thirsty is not going to crossover or be a huge hit but it can get Mariah back on good terms with the Urban radio and that's probably what Mariah needs the most.
Hopefully, they release You Don't Know What To Do immediately after Thirsty so it can be that multi-format smash everyone was waiting from Mariah. I mean, it's no doubt this is her best critically and fans received song in YEARS and they shouldn't miss out on the opportunity of making it a big hit.

I'm not arguing which is a better single choice, either. I'm actually just concerned that this same direction she's headed in will lead to the same results (probably not even as good of results) as in the past, and I was hoping for something different and surprising. I know she wants to be an R&B artist, but she's not a very good R&B artist. She shines when her music isn't genre-specific.

It could work as single if the studio version wasn't too disco and more like I'm That Chick or even SIO. I actually could see YDWTD having an easier time in Europe than the States just for that reason! lol They're all about the quality of the song- not the age, gender, or other shallow factors. While U.S. radio has def. been more welcoming and diverse the last 5 years to different kinds of music from all over the world vs. the total U.S. rap and hip hop dominance from 10 years ago, it still all comes down to the singer, their status on radio and marketability. If someone like Beyonce or Rihanna put this out, I think it would still instantly get airplay. Yet, w/ Mariah, because of the year she had and all the consecutive underperformers it def. tainted her momentum. No doubt, at the minimum, this song will prob be a future Billboard Club #1. If it never gets released for whatever strange reason, will still get lots of love in gay clubs.
