It's a throwback to her older material, very "Make It Happen" - I actually like it. Just get rid of Wale.

Yeah, those back up singers really added to the chorus and the end of YDKWTD. The studio version is nice, but I wish she had incorporated backing vocals more in the chorus and ending of the studio version.

I wonder if the scratches at the end of the record were the dj's manipulation of the record or if they are actually part of the song. Dj's manipulation or JD's manipulation? hmmm

Only Mariah would make the main version of Thirsty rapper-less and have one of her best intros since her Music Box days marred with the bizarre and uncompletely unnecessary grumblings of Wale on the studio version. I'm actually pissed about that. Shit makes NO sense. Sad thing is, I doubt that was JD's idea. Oh well, at least she sounds phenomenal and gave me a retro style I frankly didn't even know I was missing from her. Watch JD's songs be the best on the album. I'll laugh. We already know he is not responsible for the worst (i.e. YM) and even THAT is not a bad song in the least.

I hope this album is sequenced well with the variety of songs she is giving us. It kind of came to mind when I saw #Beautiful precedes Thirsty, and I am like hmmmmmm.

And where is the studio version of YDKWTD, that we're making comparisons?

Thanks for the link. Yes, even with the live performance, I found Wale's bit over the intro very jarring. I think I'm listening to my favorite Mimi track since "Say Somethin'". :'( And it kinda reminds me of a "Someday" follow-up.

Ok... I've been wondering what this reminds me most of in Mariah's catalogue. Sometimes I think it's "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" sometimes I hear Emotions-album stylings. BUT! I think I've figured it out..... that PEPSI commercial song. Right? Yes. I'm sure of it.

Um..sorry but I actually think the live version is def. superior lol Good beat, pleasant/ catchy enough, her voice sounds good but there's just something missing in the vocal delivery of the main versus. And Wale reeally corrupts what could've been a way hotter song. Should've been 100% Mariah.

The only part is I wish she would have left him til the very end of the intro, not the entire thing. But his second rap verse is ridiculously catchy, love his voice!

To be more specific I think the way and pace she sings the YDKYTD verse (main hook) is too fast. I know she has to keep up w/ the beats but for some reason the live version seemed a few BPM slower, had more soul (like others said added backup singers). Not saying it won't be a hit but the live version had something the studio version is lacking. :/

Still loving it!! Agree that the only thing that makes this less than perfect is Wale's speaking over her best intro since, literally, You're So Cold.

There are things I like better about the live version (it had more energy and those great backing vocals), but then there are things I like better about the studio version (the more prominent strings, the ad-libs). In neither version do I like Wale talking about the intro; it's the only thing I don't like.

So..as of now, Thirsty is still looking like the first single. Even though most of the positive feedback has been about YDK, there hasn't even been a hint of it being a single unlike Thirsty. Yes, she performed it and it simply got played today but I don't think it was an 'official premiere'. It's prob. due to Mariah personally feeling Thirsty more. I have a feeling IDJ prob. had more enthusiasm w/ YDK than Mariah and wanted it out on radios and iTunes weeks ago. The album is only out in one week. Since this isn't a surprise/Beyonce type release, why...like weeks ago didn't they do what they're doing now they (get both of these songs out there) and pick the one that's getting the best buzz which is obviously YDK just to have something on the radio and iTunes

I think she's doing a double A side, one for pop one for urban. Sounds find to me.

I LOVE it. But can't stand the talking over her opening vocal. Like what the fuck? This would be perfect without it... it's so distracting. Mariah delivers a 90s-esque vocal, and some dumb ass is talking over it? That fucking annoys me. But it's still a jam!!

This song deserves a video like Madonna's where she's walking through a field of flowers and the flowers start blooming (LOVE PROFUSION) but with Mariah walking down the yellow brick road dressed as dorothy : D
