The performance of "Got To Be Real" with her godmother was in 1998, just when she started to struggle with high notes.

I think the thing for me with her performances is I would rather have an honest this is how I am sounding today performance from Mariah than some lipped/overly dubbed performance. I loved her performance with Patti LaBelle. I will admit I am nervous for her Today show performance as morning shows tend to not work well for Mariah. Granted her more recent performances give me hope as she has sounded really good especially performing Art Of Letting Go.

I'm sure it's more of an interpolation than a sample. Mariah didn't really do blatant samples on her past couple albums.

Ya know, I hear interpolation and Mariah in the same sentence and I'm into it

Being "Thirsty" for album info, I went on to the Wikipedia page for the album, and looked at the tracklist. Yes, I know, Wikipedia, not reliable...but some of the writing credits are quite promising. They are probably samples but perhaps she worked with these people - there are lots of names that when you click them they are associated with Philly soul. On "Meteorite", which is the QTip song, Norman Harris and Ron Tyson I think this is the only song written by Norman Harris and Rob Tyson ( according to www.musicvf.com/song.php?title=Think+for+Yourself+by+The+Temptations )

Mariah's album title completely erased any potential fallout from the release being delayed yet again:
Slay!

Is interpolation something like "If You Think You're Lonely Now" in "We Belong Together"? That could be one, but it's also something like "I'll Be Loving U Long Time" where a piece of the music from "Stay With Me" is played/used in the song, but it's not part of the original recording. An interpolation would be taking a melody/loop but playing it on a new instrument or something. A sample is when you use an actual piece of the original track.

Yeah, part of "I'm Caught Up..." was replayed. No elements of the original recording were used. Another example is when part of another song is resung, like "We Belong Together," "Inseparable," "I'm That Chick, etc.

Isn't there some video posting from the Art Of Letting Go time frame where Mariah is basically singing part of a song where she is singing, but then she says you don't know about that yet and asks the people watching do you know that song. Where she is singing I can give it to you but what you gonna do/ Tryin to give it all to you? Sorry Mariah sings it very low and hard to make out the lyrics. I wonder if that is part of the song.

That's from a somewhat random song; Jayo Felony, I believe. Was he credited as a writer on any song on the album?

Probably my favorite Mariah live performance ever. I wish it was longer. Everything was totally spontaneous and she didn't seem to give a s**t how she looked, just went out and put some soul out there. That's a rarity. And I love the curly hair.

Zapp & Roger's classic "More Bounce to the Ounce" I believe. I don't remember seeing those writers credited on Mariah's new album, though. It's possible she changed her mind, or maybe they didn't get the sample cleared.

While it's not Mariah's best song or even performance, I don't know how someone can watch something like this and say Mariah isn't (or wasn't at any rate) a strong live performer:
She has a strong presence, no weird posturing like she does now, a connection with the audience, and a great vocal.
And let's not forget this beautifully emotional gem:

Oh man! I was coming back from lunch when I hear this guy blasting "Breakdown" in his car. I think people are preparing themselves for impending Slayriah !

I hope they are being quiet to try and figure out the best single strategy and marketing strategy.

Ah man, I haven't seen the When You Believe video for a longgg time; such a magical moment seeing them together. Such a shame they didn't record together one more time.

I've been listening to the Butterfly album a lot lately, that raw artistic energy and them vocals, I'm being slayed for the ages, while waiting for MIAMTEC, I'm being slayed for the ages! I love this woman! Hopefully she got back in that artistic place for this album. So excited to see what she has for us, I hope a single drops soon, I've been asking her to release one on Twitter.

I hope her R&B takes on a more organic nature along the lines of Butterfly.

I hope her R&B takes on a more organic nature along the lines of Butterfly. I love Butterfly, but I am interested to know what you mean by "organic." I think TEOM is more organic in that a lot of the songs utilize live instruments. But you might be thinking of another aspect. Butterfly remains probably her best-written album, and the production is fairly complex on most songs. While I shouldn't judge songs on titles alone, this album has me excited based on all of those one-word titles. Songs like "Thirsty" and "Meteorite" and "Camoufauge" just sound cool.

What I mean by organic is everything just worked and had a smooth flow: the lyrics, vocals, the production everything came off on point and so natural. I feel like after that she has had shining moments in R&B, but nothing consistent.

For me, that's when it all went downhill. I think that was the start of this I wanna be sexy phase she's stuck in now. Really?? Then what in god's name was 'Honey' suppose to be?? Mariah has always been sexy (no doubt about it) but then she went a bit overt. Honey wasn't desperate to me. It was Mariah's liberation from Tommy's parental control and her owning being a 26 Y.O woman. Rainbow just came off silly and immature for a 28 Y.O woman. I mean, the lollipop and hair clip, seriously? The whole theme was childish tbh. And she's adopted that mentally ever since.
