People need to relax and enjoy the album for what it is when it comes out. This album could flop, or it could be a hit. A hit to me is going gold. With Mariah, it isn't out of the realm of possibility to score a hit if the material is good. Mariah will sell albums if people can give a good word of mouth on the album. It is what happened with TEOM. She had great material, so no one wanted to be the loser to not own that album.

In all sincerity, anyone not expecting this album to flop is kidding themselves and possibly delusional. I wish it was different but it is what it is. At the very least, I hope she delivers some good material for her fans, regardless if the album is a commercial hit or not. That's exactly what i've said few pages back. I can see it being certified Gold by the end of the year. With a hit or not. I think Gold is being very optimistic too. Unless there's a mega-smash single waiting to happen on this album, I don't see this selling more than 200k-300k. Maybe it'll be certified gold, but it certainly wont sell that much. I think the content of the album will be good though which is all that really matters at this point.

The release date is about 32 weeks away from year's end. In Christmas her catalog will get a little boost. So to it be Gold by the last week of 2014, she'll only have to sell 16k per week. She'll debut with more than 16k for sure. I think she can achieve it.

considering the biggest female album of the year will be lucky to squeeze out 1M by the end of the year, GOLD would be massive for Mimi. I'm hoping for at least 400K by end of the year and eventual gold record, I'd be super happy with that.

Two key excerpts from the Wonderland interview:
ββThe Art Of Letting Goβ [once the album title] is important because it has helped me to let go of fear; fear that I will never reach my true potential. Itβs true that becoming a mummy has helped me to become a stronger person, but this album is about reclaiming myself, and that I am not going to be pushed around by anyone anymore. This album is ready when itβs ready. Not any sooner.β
She claims that her first two records, 1990β²s Mariah Carey and the following yearβs Emotions, were Motown moments rawer, edgier and far more emotionally impactful in demo form. Her latest, she says, is the album those damaged demos should have turned into, βI went abroad to record it, I escaped New York β kinda like Kurt Russell in that film but, yβknow, way more fabulous,β she winks. βWith those first albums, I recorded the high notes in βVision Of Loveβ on a drum mic β a PZM β, which gave it this real old crispness. I wanted to get back to that.β
She pretty much is saying fcuk anyone who wants to give her grief because she is going to do it her way. That second excerpt does have me excited. It seems she really did take her catalog, the good and the bad of it all into consideration when making this album, and decide to reclaim what she always wanted to do as an artist.

- she said that people keep asking her when a new single will out and more will be on iTunes, but she really does want this to be heard as a whole body of work, it isn't going to be a normal release. i love that this is how she feels about it but this sounds like someone was quite inspired by Beyonce? that's entirely fine, i just hope she isn't expecting the same results since her situation is different. I wouldn't want a desperate, childish first single featuring Iggy! Right? I mean, why would you want her to put out a good song when she can keep releasing tired rehashes of her material from 15 years ago? you know as well as anyone else a Mariah song with an Iggy feature would go over as well as UOMF or Triumphant. i don't know if you jumped the gun because you assumed Coco's post was purely shade but there is a very good point to be made about chasing after the latest 'hot' artist for a feature. That works for the young'uns, but for Mariah now, the song itself has to be exactly on point - if it's not, not only will it flop but she will be dragged even more for looking desperate than she would by just releasing what she's most comfortable with. e.g. you've bumped your head if you think it's a better idea for Mariah to put out a song like "Problem" (good for Ariana but it would go nowhere in Mariah's hands) than to stick with a #Beautiful or YM (which at least have a chance of being received well in reviews if not on iTunes). and also kind of funny that you pulled the number 15 out of thin air, since 15 years ago was Rainbow (aka Coco's least favorite album). I hardly think Coco would be so looking forward to this era if she thought it was going to be anything like that.

thank you JESUS let me lay in the sun for a minute and admire your fine creation of a human being and bask in the fact that a bitch understood what I was saying and understood me, because LAWD knows when i talk about what is in the best interest for Mariah today they always assume im disparaging their popular genre and today's artists. When I do disparage them i make it clear but yeah Cynthia nailed it. If I was here for re-hashes i would be #teamtriumphant but everybody knows it wasn't my cup of tea.

Unless there is a massive single hiding out there, this is going to be Mimi's "Britney Jean" and that is OK. If the music is good, that's all the matters, but I can't say that I'm all-in for this project. The fits-and-starts did me in.

Since some of my favs are only releasing new album's this year, i didn't catch up with the sales chart for awhile. It's wayyy downn. Last time i checked 16k was top 20.

I think Charmbracelet is R&B Slayriah too- if she used her full vocals on the tracks it would have been a way better album because the songs are themselves are great and flawlessly written (Subtle Invitation, My Saving Grace, Sunflowers, etc)

The lessers need to chill out this is important to Mariah, the quote on the last page leaves me optimistic that she revisited her roots and contemporarized them with whats hot now. Shes got a couple hits in her wings, one smash maybe even song of the year I guarantee.
She knows she isnt getting any younger and she cares about her hot 100 record, dont think she cares much about if this debuts at number one. Whats up against it? As I've said repeatedly this will be her biggest era since TEOM.

After a first full play my first impressions are:
Fantasy and Always Be My Baby are obviously flawless and remain some of my favorite Mariah tracks. I never really listened to One Sweet Day- after listening to it I LOVE it and it definitely sounds familiar, I'm sure I've heard it before but wow that melody is gorgeous.
Album tracks that are my FAVORITE after the first play are:
- Underneath the Stars (reminds me so much of Fourth of July- which I love! love the atmosphere of this) - When I Saw You (loving the way she sings this, especially the chorus) - Forever (this one might be one of my favorite Mariah songs after a first listen, I'm soo slayed- her vocals and the feel of it is beautiful) - Melt Away (YAS this is such a flawless melody, so perfect!) - Looking In (this is so beautiful, the lyrics are so powerful and I love the simplicity of it)
Open Arms is a GREAT cover too. Long Ago is cute but didn't slay me as the rest of the album did and I Am Free didn't do much for me. I think my FAVORITE non-single songs are Underneath the Stars, Forever and Melt Away. It's hard not to put Looking In in the top 3 but it is only my first listen so I'm sure things will change!

These would have made great album covers. I don't mind the Standard cover, but for some reason her being in a swimsuit just feels kind of random and out of place.

I also never listened to her debut, Emotions, or Glitter. Or her first christmas album! Damn I got some work to do... I've always been SO in love with her material from Butterfly-present (and now Daydream!) but I need to catch up now! I have Music Box but I only really listen to the singles- I don't think I've ever really listened to the rest of it.

Emotions is a must listen and outside of Butterfly is the album I go back to the most, her debut is classic it as aged in parts but enjoy it. Glitter honey you must love the 80's like me, its a mixed bag but it was a fun record but left me wanting more.
Good luck on the journey to heaven, you're now spreading your wings and turning into a butterfly, rise bitch rise!!! if you need a fairy god mother i got you now!

Her debut and her christmas album are practically without flaw.
I never cared for Emotions tbh (besides the singles) and Glitter is a nice, fun album marred by some REALLY bad songs.

You've never heard rock-Mariah or rap-Mariah from the debut...you've got some surprises coming your way. Enjoy! and in the words of Trey Lorenz - "take yo' time wit it"
