I never understand the people that are “tired” of AIWFCIY. Are they only hearing AIWFCIY? How is that possible? Do they not hear any of the other Xmas songs being played over 1,000 times a day?
It’s like shut up.
We got people suing her again. Good luck with that.
The other ones literally riding on her coattails but shading her at the same time.
Mariah created this empire and so many people either want a piece of it or bring her down.

Look at this shit: She also made an official music video for "RATCT" that will drop this week, so she's really coming for blood. Leigh She clearly modeled this after Mariah's "It's time" videos and, some of us think, was mocking Mariah (note the use of "dahling" too). There was also this item. |

It'd be even funnier if they release a joint-video next year when Peggy turns 80 (December 11th). colson I can't say for sure, but people do not f*** around when it comes to Xmas music, especially in locations where it starts to get frigid right around this time of year (it is 39 degrees in Queens at the moment -- it was nearly 80 three days ago). Feels like it starts earlier and earlier every year though. |

Also, the rest of the world doesn't have Thanksgiving, so there's not the social pressure from some to wait until after that to start spinning Christmas music.

Isn’t the streaming gap so close between these two because of Spotify play listing? I feel like they purposefully lowered Mariah and pushed Brenda after Mariah’s Apple TV special (and Apple Music exclusive album). I’m not sure anyone has really connected those dots, but to me that all lined up about the same time and Brenda was popping in as first on Spotify Xmas playlists. Did billboards new formula address passive vs active streams? |

I think it's likely at 15x platinum right now, or at least close enough that if they wait until early December or something it would be there. I don't know the time lapse between the certification level being looked at and it being reported to the RIAA and confirmed/announced so it might be that it's already been tabulated this year in order to be announced in early December. Having said that, I guess there is no real difference in doing that specific certification of 15x platinum this year versus next year. It's far and away above all other holiday songs regardless. JamaicaFunk² Yes, "RATCT" has been gaining ground each year, and a lot of it is due to Spotify holiday playlisting. Mariah does have that Spotify performance thing this season, so I assume that's an effort on her team's part to get in their good graces. Having said that, in addition to placement on playlists, the other issue is one of the biggest Spotify playlists is a traditional/old holiday music one, and "AIWFCIY" is apparently too new to qualify (and "RATCT" is usually one of the first songs on it, if not the first). "AIWFCIY" is a classic, though, so surely by now it could fit the theme regardless. And yes, Billboard has long distinguished between active and passive streams, but if I'm not mistaken it has to do with the service (i.e. Spotify vs Pandora, paid subscription versus not, etc) than it does with whether or not you listen to a song because it's on a playlist.
